Used to be, every Tuesday was “David Brooks Fisking Day” around here, as I’d dismantle that dishonest fraud’s New York Times column, but I eventually got bored with it. Now the fool has committed one of the great self-owns in the history of social media: Claiming on Twitter that his burger at the airport cost $78. Internet sleuths quickly figured out what restaurant Brooks was in: 1911 Smokehouse Barbecue, where the burger costs $17, meaning that Brooks drank somewhere in the neighborhood of $50 worth of cocktails. Is this — a New York Times columnist running up a bar tab of $50 drinking call-brand scotch at an airport restaurant — really “why Americans think the economy is terrible”? Probably not.

Brooks got more readers for that stupid tweet than he gets for his weekly columns. If the economy was really terrible, he’d be unemployed.
