Alaska LP to Murkowski: DROP DEAD!

Posted on | August 30, 2010 | 33 Comments

REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORT — Eric Dondero was sworn to secrecy about this and the Alaska LP had a deal to break it on Fox News, so it couldn’t be reported until after I’d already left the house:

Alaska’s Libertarian Party has officially said no to any possibility of incumbent GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski joining its ticket in the fall elections, party Vice Chairman Harley Brown tells Fox News, though it seems clear the laissez faire party never really considered the option all that seriously.
The five-member board discussed the senator on Sunday more out of a courtesy, since some unknown person raised the prospects of a Murkowski Libertarian Party ticket run should she lose the GOP primary to Fairbanks attorney Joe Miller, who currently holds a more than 1,600-vote lead.

Guess who has high praise for Dondero? Eric’s “plugged in,” you see, whereas I’m chopped liver.

It’s OK. Still a while before final boarding. Maybe I’ll update in a minute before heading off to the Last Frontier.

UPDATE: The National Desk, 4:45 p.m. ET:

UPDATE II: Remember yesterday morning’s post?

Christine O’Donnell: The Next Joe Miller?
A friend was on the phone the other night and we were talking about the result in Alaska — where a half-million dollars in TV ads by the Tea Party Express helped push Joe Miller to a surprising victory — and my friend said, “Well, you know, now that they’ve finished up that Alaska thing, what about Delaware? . . . It’s only three counties. They could have a heckuva impact with just $150,000 there.”

Hey, did I call that one, or what?

Tea Party Express ready to spend
on Rep. Castle challenger

The Tea Party Express, which spent some $600,000 on Alaska Republican Joe Miller’s primary challenge to Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R), says it’s preparing to do the same on behalf of Christine O’Donnell (R) in Delaware.

All righty, then! I’ll be boarding in a few minutes, so it’s time to shut down the National Desk for now. And, of course, please hit the tip-jar!

    Hey Stacy –

What I want to know is if the “Mike” referred to in attorney Van Flein’s letter to the AK State Elections Board is Mike Roman – political consultant & private investigator – of electionjournal.org.
    http://community.adn.com/sites/community.adn.com/files/campbell.pdf

When I commented about this – at ANOTHER WEBSITE – my comment was summarily deleted!

I didn’t make the accusation – just WONDERED.

I have to check my bank balance – as I am UNEMPLOYED and BROKE – but I will hit the tip jar even if it’s pennies … 😉 well, more than pennies …

Thank you for going – your excellent work is appreciated. Try to take some time to catch some salmon & see the sights – maybe you can finagle an invite to Wasilla for dinner!

That photo conveys a wealth of useful information to the blogger who hasn’t taken his writing act on the road before:

    1) Note the attached full-size keyboard and mouse. You may think the laptop keyboard and built-in touchpad are sufficient. If you plan on doing anything more heavy duty than pinging Twitter every hour or so, they’re not. If you’re REALLY hard up for space, you can find a flexible “rollup” keyboard for ~$10 at your local electronics store, but in my experience they tend to be a little fritzy.

    2) “Paperless office” my ass. If you’re covering any event that’s more dynamic than the annual convention of the National Association of Quadriplegics Who Can’t Afford Motorized Wheelchairs, you’re going to be in situations that a) call for taking notes, and b) call for you to be ambulatory rather than bolted to a countertop on which to mount your laptop. Make sure you have pen and paper.

    3) Get your funding fully in place BEFOREHAND so that you’re not the poor bastard stuck drinking yellow Mexican water instead of real beer.

I remain unconvinced on O’Donnell (though I am willing to be convinced.)

Her Bio has a lot of red flags for me.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christine_O%27Donnell

There is a big difference between Joe Miller (West Point, Decorated Gulf War Vet, Yale Law) and what we see here.

There is also a big difference between Alaska and Delaware. AK was basically a free roll of the dice, so I was happy to give to the candidate who who was clearly better.

Conversely, Del. is very liberal. If we vote in Castle, we very likely take the seat. If we vote in O’Donnell, it will be very iffy.

It’s not about just getting the best conservative. It’s about being strategic. I’m yet to be convinced that a vote for O’Donnell is the best strategic use of our resources.

I think it is official Miller Time.

Though in all seriousness, in the course of four years we might get senators from Alaska who care about something other then drowning themselves in pork?

    3rd sign of the Apocalypse.

    Shameless Plug/Public Service.
Friend of mine started a website called notesforlater.com that lets your email yourself the web page your surfing on with one click on your bookmark bar.
If you could mess around with it for 10 minutes and (if you think it is as cool as I do) link it that would be awesome. Also if in the same post your riff on why the Gift Economy idea is silly you get MAJOR bonus points, as my friend who programed it is a huge Gift Economy nut.
