The Other McCain

Was That Megan McArdle Or Meghan McCain?

Nonetheless, I confess, I like Barney Frank. I also think that, whatever his mistakes, he’s pretty knowledgeable about finance. And you need only look at the committee list to see that it could have been so, so much worse.

Well, garsh, guys: the leukemia death was way better than straight decapitation.

Barney Frank; Maxine Waters; Howdy Doody: when are we going to face the systemic problem? If I have an incompetent, unethical piece of work against whom I cannot vote lining a wallet via their corruption, this is almost as horrible as old-fashioned taxation without representation!

And I speak as someone living in VA-8. I’m not ashamed of my country, let me tell you, but I do feel twinges of embarrassment over my Congressional district, when our economic playing field is so tilted by a piece of work like ‘Gentleman’ Jim Moran. The notion that ‘at least Jim Moran isn’t Nancy Pelosi warms me not.

There is absolutely no apologizing for this pack of louts.

If Maxine Waters had been committee chair there would have been no Dodd/Frank or even a Dodd/Waters financial reform. Even the other SDs would have thrown up their hands at her insistence that the Banks be nationalized.

And that the one partly owned by her and her husband be subsidized.

Did you get this at Insty? He loves  McCardle.  Yet another reason to ignore  PJM.

McArdle isn’t a conservative.  When she voices what seem to be conservative opinions they are usually just recognitions of existing facts.  They only sound conservative because the left is so adamant about denying the truth in economics.

She is part of the DC culture, one of what we used to call the “Area Birds” as a term of endearment.  You cannot live and work in that society without paying homage to their Idols.  One aspect of this is you must not criticize a gay Democrat in any way.  Gay Republicans are fair game and attacking them is even favored, but pointing out that Barney Frank denied with anger there were any potential problems with Fannie or Freddie for years after they were apparent, and also that his schemes for subprime mortgage guarantees might contribute in any way to any sort of “real estate bubble,” which he also vehemently denied existed until after it burst.

Even if Frank were arrested for securities fraud and pandering tomorrow, McArdle would pledge her undying respect for his alleged intellect.

Maxine is insane and comical, but she can’t do that much harm.  Frank was a friggin disaster.  Megan is just flat wrong.

Which is why Waters taking her place would be a win win for us.

“And you need only look at the committee list to see that it could have been so, so much worse.”

No, it really couldn’t have been. Frank helped establish and then provided cover for the housing debacle and CRA for years. Years! As a senior chairman, too, which means he had the clout to direct activity. Actually out and out lied about its stability and inevitable collapse while posing as an innocent lamb. Frank really should be going to prison for the economic devastation consequential to his votes and agenda.

Who is handing out licenses for punditry these days? We probably need to start checking those things out before listening to make sure they aren’t forgeries.

I went over to McArdle’s article and looked around.  The stupid is getting pretty deep in the comments.

Waters is a cretin.  Frank, it must be admitted, had political savvy.  So this could be win-win.
