Lindsey Stone of Plymouth, Mass., Has ‘Been Placed on Unpaid Leave Pending the Results of an Internal Investigation’

“This is just us, being the douchebags that we are, challenging authority in general. . . . OBVIOUSLY we meant NO disrespect to people that serve or have served in our military.”
— Lindsey Stone of Plymouth, Massachusetts
Alas, Lindsey, it wasn’t quite as obvious to others as it was to you, eh?
While I hesitate to jump on the dogpile — e.g., the “Fire Lindsey Stone” Facebook page — my sympathy for you is limited by my suspicion that you’re not really sorry about what you did, you’re just sorry that you got caught. And I furthermore suspect that, as you sit home on unpaid leave, having deleted your Facebook page, you’re sulking in self-pity about how unfair it is and how mean these people are being to you.
But Lindsey, you did this on a company-paid trip to Arlington National Cemetery at THE TOMB OF THE UNKNOWNS!
“I can understand why veterans would be all upset over this,” says Edward LeBlanc who was in the Air Force for 20 years and served two tours in Vietnam.
Understatement of the year, sir. Perhaps you could explain to Lindsey, the daughter of Peter and Jeanne Stone of Plymouth, Mass., why the sign at the Tomb of the Unknowns asks for “silence and respect,” and why nobody’s laughing at her “clever” Facebook photo. Let me give it a try.
My childhood friend Dave brought his family to visit us a few years ago, and we all took a trip together down to Washington, D.C.
Dave was especially eager to visit Arlington National Cemetery. You see, Dave used to be a Scoutmaster and one of his former Scouts had grown up and joined the Army. This young man, whom Dave had taught in his troop all the way up to the rank of Eagle Scout — no small honor, that — had been selected by the Army for the even higher honor of Sentinel at the Tomb of the Unknowns.
So we went there and watched as this young Sentinel stood his watch, then saw the Changing of the Guard, and afterwards went to the quarters and talked with this soldier, Dave’s former Eagle Scout.
Y’know, old Dave was so proud, he cried.
Thinking back to that day, I also think of my late father, who had a deep scar on his neck from a piece of German shrapnel that came this close to killing him. “You got a million dollar wound, Mack,” the medic told him — bad enough he’d never have to go into combat again, but not so bad that he would be permanently crippled.
A lot of guys weren’t so lucky. And the unluckiest of all were mangled so badly that their remains couldn’t even be identified. These are the men who are buried at the Tomb of the Unknowns.
They gave “the last full measure of devotion,” and all we are asked to give them in return are “silence and respect.” Too much to ask? I think not.
You’re really feeling sorry for yourself, aren’t you, Lindsey? You think this is all about you, because you are selfish, and can’t think of the widows and orphans and bereaved parents of troops who died in their country’s service, and whose sacrifice you disrespected because you’re so smart and funny, “challenging authority generally.”
“I gotta be me, as the douchebag credo goes.”
— Ace of Spades
Really, Lindsey, it was unfair and mean of Ace to make fun of your arm fat. Because there are people with fat arms I actually like, and I wouldn’t want them to be offended. You, on the other hand . . .
Like I said, Lindsey, it’s not my instinct to dogpile someone, to kick them when they’re down and laugh at their shame. I’ve done lots of stupid, embarrassing things in my life, so I tend to empathize with people who find themselves on the receiving end of public humiliation.
“Fire Lindsey Stone“? Yeah, they probably will, but I’ll take no joy in it, even knowing that you probably voted for Obama, you dumb bitch.
What will you do after they fire you, Lindsey Stone of Plymouth, Mass.? Maybe you should consider joining the Army. Maybe the Army would teach you a thing or two about respect. And maybe you’ll get mangled so badly they won’t be able to identify your remains.
Also, like Ace said, “a push-up wouldn’t kill ya.”

You shout something in a public square, then don’t be surprised when people shout back.

‘Dug-up’??? She put the photo on Facebook and the others used in the new stories were on her Facebook page before she took it down.

A quick question, Jerry: if you’re so concerned about Stacy receiving blog traffic from this story, then why retweet its url? https://twitter.com/jerrywilson_7/status/271319483233218561

I thought I stated that in my comment.

No, no, no, and no. You, we, all of us,CANNOT have a rational discussion, meaningful dialogue or substantial debate when we are obliged to tolerate the interruptions of gibbering self-centered morons. This last election was abundant proof of that.
Just as one screaming child in a preschool can set off all the others, it is placing the noise above the signal in the signal-to-noise ratio of our society and the consequences are borne, not by the self-centered morons, but by the people trying to live reasonably and decently around them.
Giuliani understood this in New York, and saved the city from a decades-long descent into an incivil wasteland.

Guessing it’s the Facebook page devoted to getting her fired by holding a petition to do just that.

With the left there is absolutely nothing that is sacred.

You did. If you look, I was responding to someone else’s comment.

Oh, for PETE’S SAKE. Since Jerry Wilson has taken it upon himself to continue to air his grievances on this blog, on a thread that has nothing to do with what he is talking about, here is my two cents, since apparently he is now making this even more public.
Grow up, Mr. Wilson. You have no brother this Thanksgiving? Yes, you are the only person on earth to have lost a loved one this year, or to have had tragedy strike. Just ask the Hurricane Sandy victims. And an overt expression of condolence from one Stacy McCain, a man so important and integral to your daily life, is apparently so critical for your mental and emotional well being that you are now “bitter” because he has not offered said condolences in a time, place and manner that you deem appropriate.
When you started whining about the prompt lack of condolences on the part of the part of a number of bloggers, including McCain and Malkin, I thought, wow, how many weeks has this man been waiting? I was stunned to see that you started complaining within a day or two. Are you kidding me? When I lost some dear family members, veterans like your brother, condolences sometimes came months after their deaths, and I was grateful to get them. But 24 hours was just too long for you to wait during a brutal election season when conservative writers arguably had bigger fish to fry.
You have an distorted sense of what is an appropriate expression of condolences. Excoriating Stacy and others that you deem unworthy will not bring your brother back and will not soothe your grief.

“Wedging in.” Don’t post here if you don’t others opining. This is a public forum.

Another Obama Bot….you’re right…..but you are much more than a douchbag….no humor in this. Makes you wonder what kind of circle of folks she hangs with…I mean who would feel comfy posting this on facebook…hummmmm?

Part of the responsibilities in our country should be appropriately measuring our “scandals”. THIS is not a big deal. Starting a war in Iraq based on lies WAS a big deal. A regular citizen taking goofy pictures ANYWHERE… even if they have some disrespectful gestures involved is really not a big deal to the point some are making this. Soldiers fight for freedom… and that freedom includes the ability to goof around in an anti-Politically-Correct manner. Veterans who really get overly offended by this should question whether they really should and whether they really understand all they were protecting. I am a former Marine… and I am ok with freedom of expression even if I do not always agree with the message.

Sorry for the confusion. I was responding to Jeanette Victoria… if you look. 😉

The fact that she did itt while “working” is even more unacceptable, in my opinion.
November 21st, 2012 @ 8:10 pm
It seems to me that public humiliation is only meaningful punishment to people who have a sense of shame. I haven’t yet seen any evidence that Ms. Stone has one.
November 21st, 2012 @ 8:13 pm
At least three times it has been pointed out that Ms. Stone put the photos on her own Facebook page. Why do you persist in ignoring that? One might start to get the idea you are not being entirely honest about your postings here.
November 21st, 2012 @ 8:15 pm
She posted, publicly, a photo taken during work hours for a care organization for disabled adults. Since she posed and her friend took the picture, who was taking care of the disabled adults they were there to accompany? If she gets fired it’s for neglecting her duties and opening her work ethic to question; if she flouts this so publicly, what work rules does she ignore?
The problem with expressing repulsive ideas in public is that others are free to express their disapproval of them; when the information is publicly posted, it’s not stalking to point out that a worker has done something questionable.
McCarthy was right. There were communists in government and still are.
November 21st, 2012 @ 8:21 pm
“McCarthy mind control”?? You just made up something really nicely nonsensical.
November 21st, 2012 @ 8:24 pm
There you go making stuff up again. “Fascist thought control”? That’s just sophomoric.
November 21st, 2012 @ 8:30 pm
She and her co-worker are fired. From LIFE FB page.
We wish to announce that the two employees recently involved in the Arlington Cemetery incident are no longer employees of LIFE. Again, we deeply regret any disrespect to members of the military and their families. The incident and publicity has been very upsetting to the learning disabled population we serve. To protect our residents, any comments, however well-intentioned, will be deleted. We appreciate your concern and understanding as we focus on the care of our community.

I’m still trying to figure out how someone much younger than me might living in the internet age reasoned something like that wouldn’t go viral?
There is no excuse for anyone under 40 to not understand this.
November 21st, 2012 @ 8:37 pm
I suspect you are exactly correct
November 21st, 2012 @ 8:56 pm
Just now getting up to speed on this.
Seems the young lady shat where she eats. As my old Grandfather always said, “you don’t shit where you eat”. Perhaps the next job she gets (if she ever gets another job) this important life-lesson will redound.

did you delete the comments or was that self inflicted??

This is nothing more than a leftist reaction to perceived injustice perpetrated by the US military. Lindsey Stone is thirty (30) years old and lives with her parents. Think she should know better? Somebody should ask her what she thinks of the role of the military and American foreign policy.
November 21st, 2012 @ 10:56 pm
To those of you who have NO IDEA how leftists feel this way (disrespectful) about authority and the military, watch INDOCTRINATE U.———-You will be enlightened and enraged as you learn how people build communities on feelings instead of facts

What a dirt leg c*nt this whore dog is. Should drop her ass off in
Uruzgan, Zabul, Helmond Province and see how she laughs as they butt
f*ck her big butt until her head caves in. I hope she loses her job and
everything else she has flat backed her way into.

This afternoon, both cunts that were involved in this despicable act have been shit canned from their jobs!

she’s an OBVIOUS right winger – because only a right winger would do something this disrespectful, hateful and heartless.

Thats a lie about Obama giving away cell phones, your lies didn’t work with the election did it. Much like healthcare, republicans create the plans they later hate under Democratic administrations. In fact, it was Bush who expanded it to include cell phones, but suddenly, it’s obama’s fault that republicans created policies they now oppose.
It reminds me of Reagan saying that “a wealthy businessman should not pay a lower tax rate than a middle class family”. Republicans cheered that statement, but now call the exact same policy “socialist” because Obama supports it.
November 22nd, 2012 @ 6:41 am
Lindsey Stone is republican her and her family still have romney/ryan poster in their yard
November 22nd, 2012 @ 7:29 am
Link? Or are you just another Lefty Liar.

“Starting a war in Iraq based on lies WAS a big deal.”
And if your bullshit bore any relationship to reality that would be an even bigger deal…..

what’s a lefty liar does this imply righties don’t, or are they all perfect so glad I am an independant

Another Lefty Liar. In case you haven’t figured it out, you have no credibility. Just another TWANLOC.
November 22nd, 2012 @ 1:11 pm
I’m a conservative before I’m a Republican. Big govt policies are bankrupting our country in more ways than one, and they’re wrong whether they’re implemented by Democrats OR Republicans.

As to McCarthyism, Insty had this to say….
J.P. FREIRE: The “Hollywood Holocaust” and Other Cold War Myths. Leaving aside the obscenity of comparing out-of-work screenwriters with gassed Auschwitz inmates, there’s this: Communists are no better than Nazis. Refusing to hire Communists is on the same moral plane as refusing to hire Nazis. Which is to say: It’s a good and admirable thing, not a sin. Go broke and starve, commies. It’s what you deserve for being eager, willing servants of totalitarianism.
=============
So when someone calls me a McCarthyite, should I say ‘thank you’?
November 24th, 2012 @ 8:15 am
Why did you mention her parents names?
November 24th, 2012 @ 2:29 pm
Kudos to the statement above except even those of us who served in the military and VOTED OBAMA would not ever think of disrespecting a soldiers burial site. Please don’t mix the two. I am a proud vet and a proud democrat! Praise be to all who have proudly served.
