You Stay Classy, Cleveland!

Posted on | June 1, 2013 | 23 Comments

My wife’s family is from northern Ohio, where the nightly local news is like a continuing education lesson on Reasons to Avoid Cleveland:

. . . what happened at a kindergarten graduation in Cleveland. What started as two teens fighting over spilled juice led to the families getting involved and eventually turned into a riot. Police were called when one participant pulled out a hammer and another pulled out a pipe, though authorities are unsure whether they were brought to the graduation or found while the riot was happening.
In the end, eight people were arrested and charged with aggravated rioting. . . .

@smitty_one_each as a Clevelander, it makes me sad to see stuff like this. It wasn’t like this 6 years ago. The next Detroit? I think, maybe

@smitty_one_each Being a little harsh, Cleveland is a great town.

Ohio is quickly surpassing New Jersey in crassness and rudness, Florida in weirdness, and, Illinois and Louisiana in corruption.

    Ohio is #1!

Why is there even such a thing as Kindergarten graduation?

It’s ridiculous, of course, another attempt to sell (formal) education to both the children and their parents by rewarding any achievement, no matter how petty. Too bad, of course, that many of these same children will later on waste several years going through the motions of getting a highschool “education.”

Oh come on Stacy, even you know better than that. In Cleveland kindergarden might be the best three or six years of your life…

And why the reflex slamming of Cleveland and Ohio when so many other places deserve it more? I suspect it’s caused by little more than a pointless desire to attack someone or something in a vain attempt to get even with… With whom or what, libruls er sumpin?

Save your ammunition for more fetid targets.

Oh c’mon, who doesn’t bring blunt instruments to a children’s affair?

Well, it’s either that or assume the school leaves pipes and hammers around where five-year-olds can reach them…

Stacy: You are being entirely too hard on Cleveland! There are some nice people there! I met both of them!

It’s not called “the mistake by the lake” for nothing

In Cleveland, there’s a term for those who don’t carry pipes, hammers, or guns: “victims.”

The Fox8 report is a little better, with live footage from the scene: http://po.st/f3gA6n

Looks like all the white people had already been arrested and taken away by the time the TV crew arrived, though.

Thank you, Paul, for demonstrating perfectly what I meant when referring to dummerEselisch commentary. (Nothing personal intended, of course.)

When I lived in SE Ohio, we called Cleveland “The Mistake By the Lake.” I was talking to someone from Cuyahoga Falls who disagreed, but saw no reason to either disabuse him or to change my opinion.
