FBI Probes Belgian Terrorist Threat

As I’ve previously explained, Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs first alerted America to the danger of Belgian extremists, and whenever The Flemish Menace™ makes another terrorist attack, it’s important to give Charles credit. Consider the latest news from Pensacola:

The F.B.I. was investigating but did not confirm a report that the Saudi trainee had watched videos of mass shootings at a dinner party sometime this week, according to a senior American official who was briefed on the investigation but not authorized to speak publicly.
The gunman, who killed three people and injured eight others, did not have any apparent ties to international terrorist groups and appeared to have radicalized on his own, according to the official.
The gunman, identified as Second Lt. Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani, was killed by a sheriff’s deputy who responded to the attack. Lieutenant Alshamrani was training to become a pilot and initially entered the United States in 2018, according to the official. But at some point Lieutenant Alshamrani returned to Saudi Arabia and then re-entered the United States in February 2019, the official said. . . .

OK, they haven’t gotten to the part about the Belgian connection yet, but I’m sure if we keep reading, everything will become apparent:

Six other Saudi nationals were detained for questioning near the scene of the shooting, which took place over two floors in a classroom on the base. Three of the Saudis who were detained had been seen filming the entire incident, according to another person briefed on the investigation.
It was not known whether the six Saudis detained were students in the classroom building, and there was no immediate indication that those filming the incident were connected to the gunman, the person said. . . .

Seriously, there must be a Belgian angle to this, although the motive is apparently still mysterious to these New York Times reporters:

Investigators were trying to determine what motivated the gunman.
Senator Rick Scott, Republican of Florida, and Representative Matt Gaetz, a Republican whose district includes Pensacola, both described the shooting as an act of terrorism.

(Of course, these Republicans are RAAAAACIST!)

But federal law enforcement officials said it was too early to establish the gunman’s motive.
The SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors jihadist activity, cited a Twitter account with a name matching the gunman that had posted a “will” calling the United States a “nation of evil” and criticizing its support for Israel.

(Because we know how much Belgians hate the Jews.)

SITE said the account had also quoted Osama bin Laden, the former Qaeda leader, and was critical of United States foreign policy.
“I’m not against you for just being American,” the posts said. “I don’t hate you because your freedoms, I hate you because every day you supporting, funding and committing crimes not only against Muslims Belgians but also humanity.”

(Obviously a typographical error, which I’ve corrected.)

The account could not be independently verified, and law enforcement officials did not confirm that it was connected to the gunman.
The gunman was a member of the Saudi Air Force.
The lieutenant was a trainee with the Saudi Air Force. Saudi pilots have trained at the Pensacola base since 1995.
The gunman used a locally purchased Glock 45 9-millimeter handgun with an extended magazine and had four to six other magazines in his possession, according to one of the people briefed on the investigation.

Remember, you should always trust the FBI:

During a news conference Friday night, the FBI declined to release the shooter’s identity and wouldn’t comment on his possible motivations.
“There are many reports circulating, but the FBI deals only in facts,” said Rachel L. Rojas, the FBI’s special agent in charge of the Jacksonville Field Office.

Well, I think we’ve got enough information now to know the gunman’s motive, despite the reluctance of federal officials and the New York Times to jump to any hasty conclusions. Charles Johnson and his LGF readers all understand that Belgian crypto-Nazis are to blame.



 

His Name Was Mohammed Alshamrani

If I had to guess, I’d say he’s probably from Belgium:

Four people are dead including the suspect after an active shooting incident at a naval base in Pensacola, Florida, police said.
The shooter was identified as Mohammed Alshamrani, a Saudi national [oops, I guessed wrong — RSM] and member of the country’s air force who was in the U.S. for flight training, law enforcement officials familiar with the investigation told ABC News. Investigators are trying to determine whether the shooting was terror-related, the officials said.
Authorities responded to reports of a shooting at Naval Air Station Pensacola at 6:51 a.m. on Friday, officials said. ATF and FBI also responded to the scene.
The shooting took place at one of the classroom buildings on the base, officials said. Officers with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene and fatally shot the suspect after exchanging gunfire.
Three people, including the shooter, were pronounced dead on scene, police said. One victim was taken to the hospital and died from injuries.
Eight others injured in the shooting were transported to Baptist Hospital, police said. . . .
During his roundtable on small business and red tape reduction accomplishments on Friday, President Donald Trump sent his condolences to families of the “warriors” killed and spoke about his call with the King of Saudi Arabia.
“I can tell you it’s a horrible thing that took place and we’re getting to the bottom on it,” Trump said. “All of the investigators are there now and they’re studying it very closely and terrible thing, and our condolences to the families.”

Y’know, if this shooter had been some kind of white nationalist alt-right extremist, CNN would be 24/7 on this story all weekend, and every liberal blog would be blaming Trump for this terrorist act. Instead what you will see is that the mainstream media and liberal bloggers will quickly bury this story, except perhaps to call out “right-wingers” as “racists” for daring to suggest that some Muslims might be dangerous.




 

Pakistani-Born Usman Khan Named as Killer in London Bridge Knife Attack

He doesn’t look Belgian* to me, and now we know why:

A “serious jihadist” who had been jailed over a plot to blow up the London Stock Exchange and potentially kill Boris Johnson has carried out a deadly assault in the heart of the British capital, triggering a political storm over why the knife-wielding terrorist was set free just a year earlier.
Heavily armed police shot dead Usman Khan on London Bridge after the 28-year-old stabbed two people to death and injured three others at a nearby conference on prison rehabilitation.
Khan launched the rampage — the second on the bridge in less than three years — at a Cambridge University conference called ‘Learning Together’ at the historic Fishmonger’s Hall. He had been invited to share his prison experience with participants and was fitted with an electronic tag to monitor his movements.
Khan stabbed delegates inside the building before running to London Bridge, where he was tackled by half a dozen members of the public. He was shot dead by heavily armed tactical officers within five minutes of the first call for help, and later found to be wearing a hoax suicide vest.
A man and woman were killed and three others injured — one critically. . . .
The Pakistani-born man was sentenced to eight years in prison in 2012 over a plot to detonate a bomb inside the stock exchange, and target other locations including the US embassy and the home of Johnson, then mayor of London and now Prime Minister. The jihadist and other members of a UK terror cell also planed to build and train at a terrorist military training facility in Kashmir, and discussed launching a Mumbai-style assault on Parliament.
Praising the bravery of members of the public who chased Khan and pinned him to the ground before police arrived, Johnson also suggested the killer should not have been on the streets.
“I have long argued that it is a mistake to allow serious and violent criminals to come out of prison early and it is very important that we get out of that habit and that we reinforce the appropriate sentence for dangerous criminals, and especially terrorists,” he said.

Cambridge University geniuses: “Hey, let’s invite a violent Pakistani jihadist to our conference, because what could possibly go wrong?”

And the sweetest touch of irony here is that the conference was called “Learning Together.” You think maybe they learned something?

Meanwhile, at The Hague:

An assailant stabbed three people Friday night in a busy shopping district in the Netherlands, and police were searching for the suspect, authorities said. . . .
A Dutch police spokeswoman said it was too early to establish a motive for the attack in The Hague.

Oh, “too early to establish a motive.” Could be anything. Might even be one of those radical Lutherans, for all we know.

* “Belgian” — In my post about the London Bridge attack Friday, I sarcastically suggested a Belgian must be responsible. To explain: Back in 2009, when Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs smeared me as a “white supremacist,” I had a great time making fun of CJ’s paranoid fears, including how he smeared Pamela Geller as a “neo-fascist” because of her association with Vlaams Belang. That was a right-wing party in Belgium, led by Geert Wilders, that was concerned with the impact of Muslim immigration on their country. Geller, a Jewish conservative who has focused relentlessly on the threat of Islamic terrorism for more than 15 years, had traveled to Belgium to meet with European activists concerned with the threat to their own countries. According to CJ’s paranoid worldview, Geller hanging around right-wing Belgians was a worse danger than Al-Qaeda. Because the word Vlaams is Dutch for “Flemish,” I made it a running joke, whenever there was a terrorist attack, that the suspects must be Belgians — part of The Flemish Menace.

And who can ever forget Charles Johnson: Race Detective?

All day long, Fox News was reporting the knife attack on London Bridge in which a man reportedly stabbed five people, two of them fatally. And yet authorities in England will say nothing about the identity of the suspect or the motive behind what is plainly an act of terrorism.

Probably another Belgian extremist, I’d guess . . .

UPDATE: What? You’re telling me the suspect is not Belgian?

The knife attacker shot dead on London Bridge was known to police and had connections to terror groups, a security source said.
The attacker had links to Islamist terror groups, the security source added.
The knife-wielding terrorist, who was wearing a fake suicide vest and has not been named, was killed on London Bridge on Friday afternoon in full view of horrified onlookers.
The attacker was a convicted terrorist who had served time in prison and was wearing an electronic tag, according to The Times newspaper. The paper added he was attending a Cambridge University conference on prisoner rehabilitation being held at Fishmongers’ Hall and ‘threatened to blow up’ the building. . . .
[The Times quoted] unnamed Whitehall sources as saying the attacker had been released from prison around a year ago after serving time for a ‘terrorism-related offence’, and had agreed to wear an electronic tag.

UPDATE II: Further violence of mysterious motives:

Hours after London Bridge was shut down due to a stabbing attack, another stabbing incident was reported out of The Hague in the Netherlands.
Multiple media outlets report that a number of people were wounded during an attack that took place on the main shopping street in The Hague’s Grote Markt district. The attacker is believed to be male and is being pursued by the Dutch police as emergency services attend to the victims.

Oh, “the attacker is believed to be male“? Probably another “incel” misogynist from #GamerGate who’s angry at SJW remakes of his favorite movies like Ghostbusters. I mean, what else could it be? Feminists have assured us that white male terrorism is an “emergency,” right?




 

Nickel-and-Dime Ukraine Scandal: Foreigners Bought Bloggers Cheap

It’s MalaysiaGate all over again:

Several conservative bloggers repeated talking points given to them by a proxy group for the Ukrainian government — and at least one writer was paid by a representative of the Ukrainian group, according to documents and emails obtained by BuzzFeed.
The Ukrainian campaign began in the run-up to high-stakes Ukrainian parliamentary elections last year, and sought to convince skeptical American conservatives that the pro-Russian Party of Regions, led by President Viktor Yanukovych, deserved American support. During that period, articles echoing Ukrainian government talking points appeared on leading conservative online outlets, including RedState, Breitbart, and Pajamas Media.

(Whatever the talking points were, I didn’t repeat them. The only foreign country I really care about is Vanuatu.)

The emails and documents, which include prepackaged quotes from election officials and talking points that some writers copied nearly word-for-word, offer a glimpse into how foreign governments dodge tight Justice Department regulations on foreign propaganda to covertly lobby in the United States: The payments were routed through a front group in Belgium to an American consultant, who has urged writers not to cooperate with a reporter investigating the campaign.

(A “front group in Belgium”? The Flemish Menace!)

The model resembles a recent stealth campaign in which bloggers were paid by the Malaysian government to write favorable stories, though the Ukraine campaign appears to have involved smaller sums of money.

(Yeah, I was all over the Malaysia scandal, another one of those blogola deals where nobody offered me a cent, dammit.)

One of the writers who participated in the campaign, who spoke on the condition of anonymity and because of lingering qualms about the arrangement, they said, described being offered $500 for a blog post praising Ukraine’s ruling Party of Regions.

What? You sold out to foreigners for a measly $500? Hell, that won’t even buy you a round-trip ticket to beautiful Vanuatu, the sunny Pacific island paradise where the Grand Hotel and Casino offers spectacular views of the harbor at Porta Vila . . .

The key thing is that Obama is angry, and he’s talking not in his normal voice but in a “black dialect.” This strikes at the core of Obama’s entire political identity: a soft-spoken, reasonable African-American with a Kansas accent. From the moment he stepped onto the national stage, Obama’s deepest political fear was being seen as a “traditional” black politician, one who was demanding redistribution from white America on behalf of his fellow African-Americans.

Actually, President Obama’s voice is one of his better qualities. He consistently achieves a pleasant tone and cadence while serving a bunch of statist idiocy. To the tune of the Flintstones theme:

TSA Must Be A Cow, Clearing Both The Shark And The Moon In An Idiotic Jump

How do you work in an airport adjacent to Kentucky, where CNN blares 24/7, and not know the junior U.S. Senator from the neighbor state?

The White House is standing by the Transportation Security Administration in its standoff with Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and his father, Republican presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas).
The elder Paul called the TSA a “police state” Monday after Rand Paul was reportedly detained by TSA after he refused to take a pat-down from TSA officials at the Nashville International Airport.
White House press secretary Jay Carney said Monday that he didn’t have any reaction to Paul’s “police state” comments.
But Carney sided with the TSA saying, “I think it is absolutely essential that we take necessary actions to ensure that air travel is safe.”

Constitutional violation?

In preventing Kentucky Senator Rand Paul from flying to Washington this morning, the TSA directly violated the law as written in the US Constitution.
The Constitution specifically protects federal lawmakers from being detained while en route to Washington DC.
Article I, Section 6 states:
“The Senators and Representatives…shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same….”
Rand Paul was travelling from his home in Louisville to attend a session in the Senate today.

This is so wildly over the top as to provoke questions:

  • Does the Paul campaign enjoy some secret TSA underling support that pulled such an idiotic stunt to give RP some free press?
  • Will this be the straw that breaks the Aqua Buddha’s back?
  • Will #OccupyResoluteDesk blame Bush for the TSA, and claim a GOP effort to discredit BHO? (Gently asserting that BHO has credit to lose.)
