Scott Brown’s Money-Bomb

Impressive results for the Massachusetts Republican seeking the Senate seat formerly occupied for more than a half-century by the Kennedy clan, but not belonging to them by divine right. NTC News has a major aggregation of news on the Massachusetts Senate race.

Yesterday was also a pretty good day for the “Send Me to Massachusetts” money-bomb here. Thanks to tip-jar hitters Edward in St. Louis, Kyle in Ontario, Maggie in Staten Island, Mike in El Segundo, Harry in Gainesville (“Get back to work, MA is about to be big”) and Thomas in Cincinnati (“Bring home a winner”).

If readers keep the hitting the Shoe Leather Fund at a good pace today and Wednesday, Mrs. Other McCain can probably be sweet-talked into letting me head up there Thursday. (Any benighted socialist who still adheres to the discredited labor theory of value should figure at least $20 per hour for the sweet-talking.)

It’s 455 miles one-way from my house to Fitchburg, Mass. — where Pete Da Tech Guy has offered to let me crash on his sofa — so 910 miles x 20 cents per mile = $182. That doesn’t include the two new tires ($75 x 2 = $150) needed for the 2004 KIA, nor other necessary expenses, including replacement of the cell phone I lost in San Francisco. There is also the possibility of taking AmTrak from D.C. to Boston ($87 one-way or $164 round-trip) which would make Joe Biden happy.

Mrs. Other McCain and I just had an early-morning discussion about this Massachusetts trip, in which she (a) mentioned certain unpaid bills and (b) reminded me of my previous pledge that the Pasadena trip would be may last foray on the road before CPAC next month. My argument: “But honey, the readers won’t pay me just to stay home and blog.” Her argument: “[Cold silence].”

Remember: $20 an hour for sweet-talking, and that AmTrak train for Boston leaves at 3 a.m. Thursday, so do the math on my ’round-the-clock sweet-talk campaign.
