The Liberal Gospel of White Guilt

The Unitarian Universalists (“UUs”) exist as the consequence of a heresy — the rejection of the Trinity — that originated in Eastern Europe and eventually found a permanent home in New England, where Henry Ware made it the quasi-official religion at Harvard in the early 1800s. Many years ago, one of my neo-Confederate friends cited the conversion of Harvard to Unitarianism as the actual cause of the Civil War, and I haven’t researched the issue enough to confirm that theory, but the general apostasy of New England is remarkable enough, even without that connection to world-historic events. When the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, they were the most militant Christians on the planet, adherents of the teaching of John Calvin, seeking to escape religious corruption and oppression (as they viewed it) in the England of James I.

The Mayflower Compact‘s description of their purpose as “the Glory of God, and Advancement of the Christian Faith,” and John Winthrop’s subsequent conception of New England as a “city upon a hill,” are sufficient testimony to the profound religious belief that inspired those early settlers. This was not some generic Christianity, but a very specific Calvinist faith, and these settlers were in the vanguard of its most sincere adherents. When, after more than a century in New England, it seemed that the colonial faithful had lapsed from the zeal of their forefathers, Jonathan Edwards inspired a revival with his famous 1741 sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” which I would recommend to the reading of anyone who desires a true understanding of the Gospel.

From the faith of the Pilgrims emerged what came to be known as the Congregational denomination. The Second Congregational Meeting House Society of Nantucket dates to 1809 — the “South Church,” to distinguish it from the First Congregational “North Church.” In 1837, the South Church congregation adopted Unitarianism in the form of the Harvard Covenant, and in 1961, the Unitarians merged with the Universalists to form the UUs, who are so far away from the Calvinism of John Winthrop and Jonathan Edwards that they’re practically in a separate universe. The South Church has made news:

A liberal church on swanky vacation island Nantucket nixed its Fourth of July readings for the first time in 25 years in “political protest” over the Supreme Court’s voting rights ruling — and its congregants’ “whiteness.”
The Nantucket Unitarian Universalists has read the Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights inside its church every Fourth of July for the last 25 years.
This year, the church’s board of trustees and presiding Rev. Erin Splaine published a letter announcing the cancelation of the readings just one month before America’s 250th birthday.
The church blamed the revision on the Supreme Court’s “gutting” of the 1965 Voting Rights Act and “an on-going process within the congregation to better understand our own whiteness,” according to the letter.
The self-proclaimed “liberal and free faith” leaders claimed that white people know the rights laid out in the America’s foundational texts “have, for centuries, been tragically, often violently, and unequally applied” against non-white citizens.

The Rev. Splaine and her wife, Michelle

What would Jonathan Edwards have to say to the Rev. Erin Splaine? “Erin, her wife, Michelle and their very cute dog Charlie are thrilled to be part of the Nantucket UU and larger community,” we are informed, and I’m pretty sure the Pilgrims would not approve. The assertion that the Supreme Court’s decision in Callais amounted to “gutting” the Voting Rights Act was repudiated by Justice Clarence Thomas:

This Court should never have interpreted [Section 2] of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to effectively give racial groups “an entitlement to roughly proportional representation.” … By doing so, the Court led legislatures and courts to “systematically divid[e] the country into electoral districts along racial lines.” Holder v. Hall, 512 U. S. 874, 905 (1994) (THOMAS, J., concurring in judgment). “Blacks [we]re drawn into ‘black districts’ and given ‘black representatives’; Hispanics [were] drawn into Hispanic districts and given ‘Hispanic representatives’; and so on.” Ibid. That interpretation rendered [Section 2] “repugnant to any nation that strives for the ideal of a color-blind Constitution.” Id., at 905–906. Today’s decision should largely put an end to this “disastrous misadventure” in voting-rights jurisprudence. Id., at 893.
As I explained more than 30 years ago, I would go further and hold that [Section 2] of the Voting Rights Act does not regulate districting at all. See id., at 922–923. The relevant text prohibits States from imposing or applying a “voting qualification,” “prerequisite to voting,” or “standard, practice, or procedure,” in a manner that results in a denial or abridgement of the right to vote based on race. … How States draw district lines does not fall within any of those three categories. Holder, 512 U. S., at 922–923 (opinion of THOMAS, J.); Allen v. Milligan, 599 U. S. 1, 46 (2023) (THOMAS, J., dissenting). The words in [Section 2] instead “reach only ‘enactments that regulate citizens’ access to the ballot or the processes for counting a ballot’; they ‘do not include a State’s . . . choice of one districting scheme over another.’” Ibid. (quoting Holder, 512 U. S., at 945 (opinion of THOMAS, J.)). Therefore, no [Section 2] challenge to districting should ever succeed.

Isn’t Justice Thomas more qualified to interpret the law and the Constitution than the Rev. Splaine and her “very cute dog Charlie”?

Justice Thomas has talked about how, after a racial protest in Boston that turned violent in 1970, he went to the chapel at Holy Cross University and prayed: “I just asked God to take hate out of my heart, and I just vowed that if he did I would never hate again.” He has been commendably faithful to his vow, and I wonder what the Rev. Splaine thinks she will accomplish by her political stunt in a Nantucket church that long ago abandoned its claim to Christianity?

Shelby Steele’s 2006 book White Guilt analyzes the pathology expressed by the Rev. Splaine’s self-flagellating call to “better understand our own whiteness.” White guilt has become a religion for liberals, and they don’t understand why the rest of us aren’t heeding the altar call.

Congratulations, Massachusetts Liberals: Your ‘Millionaire Tax’ Just Cost the Patriots an All-Pro Wide Receiver

Here’s a fact: Tennessee has zero state income tax.

Here’s another fact: Last year, Massachusetts voters passed a referendum approving a 4% “millionaire tax” in addition to the state’s existing 5% income tax, so that all income over $1 million a year earned by Massachusetts residents is now taxed at 9%. So in order for the New England Patriots to be competitive with the Tennessee Titans in bidding for the services of All-Pro free agent wide receiver Deandre Hopkins, they would have had to add about 10% to whatever the Titans offered.

And this competitive disadvantage, which the voters of Massachusetts have imposed on the Patriots, will also apply to athletes for the Celtics in the NBA, the Bruins in the NHL and the Red Sox in baseball.

It’s not just Tennessee that has zero state income tax — Texas, Florida and Nevada also don’t have a state income tax, so top free agent athletes now have an incentive to sign with Houston, Dallas, Miami, Tampa, or Las Vegas, rather than to go to Boston and get ripped off for 9% of their salary because of stupid liberal voters in Massachusetts.

Hey, math quiz: What’s 9% of zero? Because you’re not going to get any tax revenue from millionaires, if millionaires leave your state.

Never mind. Math is “white supremacy,” they tell me.

Do Ghouls and Witches Count for ‘Diversity and Inclusion’ at Harvard?

Clockwise from top left: Cedric Lodge, Jeremy Pauley, Katrina Maclean

The manager of the morgue at Harvard Medical School somehow got involved with a macabre collection of death-obsessed weirdos, and now all of them are facing multiple felony charges:

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that Cedric Lodge, age 55, of Goffstown, New Hampshire, Katrina Maclean, age 44, of Salem, Massachusetts, Joshua Taylor, age 46, of West Lawn, Pennsylvania, Denise Lodge, age 63, of Goffstown, New Hampshire, and Mathew Lampi, age 52, of East Bethel, Minnesota, were indicted by a federal grand jury on conspiracy and interstate transport of stolen goods charges. Additionally, Jeremy Pauley, age 41, of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, was charged by Criminal Information, and Candace Chapman Scott, of Little Rock, Arkansas, was previously indicted in the Eastern District of Arkansas.
According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, the indictments and information allege that a nationwide network of individuals bought and sold human remains stolen from Harvard Medical School and an Arkansas mortuary. The charges allege that from 2018 through 2022, Cedric Lodge, who managed the morgue for the Anatomical Gifts Program at Harvard Medical School, located in Boston, Massachusetts, stole organs and other parts of cadavers donated for medical research and education before their scheduled cremations. Lodge at times transported stolen remains from Boston to his residence in Goffstown, New Hampshire, where he and his wife, Denise Lodge, sold the remains to Katrina Maclean, Joshua Taylor, and others, making arrangements via cellular telephone and social media websites. At times, Cedric Lodge allowed Maclean and Taylor to enter the morgue at Harvard Medical School and examine cadavers to choose what to purchase. On some occasions, Taylor transported stolen remains back to Pennsylvania. On other occasions, the Lodges shipped stolen remains to Taylor and others out of state.
Maclean and Taylor resold the stolen remains for profit, including to Jeremy Pauley in the Middle District of Pennsylvania. Jeremy Pauley also purchased stolen human remains from Candace Chapman Scott, who stole remains from her employer, a Little Rock, Arkansas mortuary and crematorium. Scott stole parts of cadavers she was supposed to have cremated, many of which had been donated to and used for research and educational purposes by an area medical school, as well as the corpses of two stillborn babies who were supposed to be cremated and returned as cremains to their families. Scott sold the stolen remains to Pauley and shipped them to Pauley in the Middle District of Pennsylvania. Pauley sold many of the stolen remains he purchased to other individuals, including Matthew Lampi. Lampi and Pauley bought and sold from each other over an extended period of time and exchanged over $100,000 in online payments.
“Some crimes defy understanding,” said United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam. “The theft and trafficking of human remains strikes at the very essence of what makes us human. It is particularly egregious that so many of the victims here volunteered to allow their remains to be used to educate medical professionals and advance the interests of science and healing. For them and their families to be taken advantage of in the name of profit is appalling. With these charges, we are seeking to secure some measure of justice for all these victims.” . . .
“The defendants violated the trust of the deceased and their families all in the name of greed,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge Jacqueline Maguire. “While today’s charges cannot undo the unfathomable pain this heinous crime has caused, the FBI will continue to work tirelessly to see that justice is served.”

Maclean owned a business in Salem — yes, that’s right, Salem, Massachusetts — which appealed to morbid obsessions:

An artist from Salem who has been accused of buying and selling stolen body parts had posted on Instagram about having a “real human skull” and offering to sell human body parts to the public, in a picture with one of her creations from February 2020.
Katrina MacLean, the bone art, doll-creating and oddity-collecting artist behind Kat’s Creepy Creations, was named in an indictment against Cedric Lodge, who officials said supplied MacLean and others with the body parts, according to court documents. . . .
Officials stated Lodge allowed MacLean and another named in the indictment, Pennsylvania man Joshua Taylor, to enter the morgue and choose the body parts MacLean and Taylor wanted, or that Lodge would ship them parts by mail.
MacLean was vocal about her artwork on social media and especially on Instagram, where she routinely sold the baby dolls she reworked, according to a comment she responded to on her account.
The Salem artist also sold her art at “oddities markets and expos,” she had said, and had “two cases at Witch City Consignment and Thrift” in the city. Additionally, she is the curator of Freaks Antiques Uniques, a pop-up dark art and oddities market located in Salem, according to her account. . . .
In a post on Feb. 9, 2020, during the time MacLean was believed by officials to be receiving and selling human body parts from Lodge, the Salem woman posted an image of a reworked, “killer clown”-style doll with a skull between its fingers.
The caption on her post read, “Throwback to the set of Hubie Halloween. This doll has been sold and yes that is a real human skull. If you’re in the market for human bones hit me up!”
Even after the FBI searched MacLean’s home in March, according to multiple reports, MacLean continued to post on her Instagram about her reworked dolls and bone art with no apparent signs of issues happening in her personal life. Her most recent post was May 28.
In several other posts, MacLean gave insight into who she is as a person.
From a March 23, 2020 post, MacLean said, “Meet the maker! I’m Kat, I like to turn regular porcelain dolls into nightmare fuel. I started painting horror dolls back in September of 2018 in an attempt to decorate the store windows @witchcitythrift.
“Everyone wanted to buy the dolls so I began selling them….. I have sold 239 dolls since then! I also make dark art, bone art, human bone jewelry and shadowboxes,” the post went on.
“I joke with my friends and say that my super power is ‘the ability to creepify’ Art and creating is my passion and my therapy. I am also the curator of Freaks Antiques and Uniques dark art and oddity market in Salem MA. Please give my page a follow @freaksantiquesuniques to check out our talented crafters, vendors, artists and creators,” MacLean said.

Think maybe those Salem witch-hunters had the right idea?

‘Humanitarian Crisis’ Update

By now you know the story: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent a planeload of 50 illegal immigrants from Venezuela to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, the island vacation resort where Barack Obama and other wealthy elites have private beachfront mansions. The affluent liberals of Martha’s Vineyard freaked out, and had the governor send in the National Guard to round up the Venezuelans and ship them off to a military base on Cape Cod. Hypocrisy exposed, mission accomplished.

During this comic escapade, however, an appeal showed up on GoFundMe, soliciting funds to address the “humanitarian crisis” in Martha’s Vineyard. Mia Cathell reports on who was behind that appeal:

The ultra-wealthy elites of Martha’s Vineyard launched a GoFundMe fundraiser over the island’s “humanitarian crisis” of (*finger-counts*) 50 migrants sent ashore by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL). That’s right. The trust fund babies and Old Money socialites on Martha’s Vineyard, a well-known magnet for millionaires, CEOs, and celebrities, were soliciting online donations from middle-class Americans on the crowdfunding platform.
As of Friday afternoon, the affluent community’s “urgent plea” has raised over $42,000. The proceeds are benefiting the Martha’s Vineyard Community Foundation (MVCF) whose mission includes putting “charitable contributions to work for the people of Martha’s Vineyard by making grants that address community priorities” and “dispersing emergency response funding during extreme times of need.” MVCF builds and invests its endowment to “provide continued resources for enhance[ing] and preserving the quality of life on the Vineyard.”
MVCF is the permanent endowment for Martha’s Vineyard and has grown to assets under management of over $14 million dollars, according to its financials page. MVCF’s current causes accepting monetary gifts include the Climate Action Fund, which backs projects “that address the effects of climate change on the Island; the Islanders Write festival, a free event where authors come together “for robust conversation about the art, craft and business of writing;” and the Diversity Coalition Charitable Trust, which is dedicated to “eradicat[ing] racism,” understanding “the barriers that prevent equal rights for all,” and “ultimately eliminate inequality and injustice.”
In addition to the flow of GoFundMe sympathy cash, MVCF had established a separate Migrant Relief Fund, noting that it’s “concerned about the well[-]being of the migrants who have recently arrived on our island.” . . .
“Martha’s Vineyard is a community of open-hearted individuals that view these migrants as people, not political pawns,” the GoFundMe campaign’s description read overnight, right before the “immigrant-friendly,” welcoming “sanctuary destination” quickly bid adieu Friday morning to the dozens of migrants within a 48-hour period.
The companion Migrant Relief Fund’s caption was updated to note that the “immigrant visitors” were just that—passersby. Of course, the MVCF was sure to emphasize that the visiting migrants “expressed enormous gratitude for the outpouring of support and generosity shown by the Island community, which was heartfelt and overflowing.” Then the MVCF vowed to “make every attempt to stay connected” with the group of migrants.
The fundraiser’s organizer, New York communications consultant Sarah Goulet, claimed the resort community “faces a shortage of affordable housing,” although dissidents in the island’s Facebook groups have called out their fellow liberals for not practicing what they preach by refusing to offer up their multiple summer rentals, which remain vacant most of the year. . . .
A quick Google search on Goulet shows her family’s four-bedroom, $1.6 million-plus Martha’s Vineyard home sitting on almost four secluded acres within walking distance of a 1,300-ft private association beach. . . .
Last year, Vineyard Haven, where the Goulet family residence is, was named the most expensive town in America, even beating Los Angeles, according to a 2021 analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data by LendingTree.
During the 2020 presidential race, Goulet donated six times to the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris. She’s a frequent contributor to ActBlue, a left-wing funding vehicle for progressive groups and candidates.
Goulet, a graduate of Brown University, owns her own namesake public relations and marketing company, offering strategic communications and media relations for fine art, design, and luxury brands. Her father is the owner of a commercial millwork manufacturer in Denver while her mother, also an Ivy League alumna, is a prominent and acclaimed appellate lawyer, serving as a partner at the prestigious law firm Holland & Hart.
Her husband from pricey Manhattan Beach, California, is a correspondent for GQ magazine and the author of two books. He proposed to Goulet on the beach below the family’s property and the two married in the summer of 2018, catching the attention of The New York Times, which published a profile on the wedding venue.
At the appointment-only Mark Ingram Atelier premier bridal salon, Goulet received an Italian textured silk dress from Milan-based designer Peter Langner. Before the outdoor meadow ceremony, guests were treated to Aperol spritzes and a raw bar, according to wedding blog site Over The Moon. A string quartet serenaded along with a premiere private brand whose vocalists have been featured on “American Idol,” “The Voice,” and “The X Factor.”
These are the class of people making more than six figures in this inflation-ravaged economy but want your money to solve their so-called “humanitarian crisis,” one that’s derived from a very real crisis at America’s border. It’s a worsening situation they didn’t care about until it directly affected them—when there’s trouble in paradise.

So, Ms. Goulet went to Brown University (annual cost of attendance, $80,986 including room and board), while her husband went to Duke University (annual cost of attendance, $81,220 including room and board), and these rich elitists can’t stand the thought of illegal immigrants spoiling their beloved Martha’s Vineyard.

Oh, but they’ve got their ready-made excuse — there’s a “shortage of affordable housing” on the island where Ms. Goulet’s family owns a four-bedroom $1.6-million home on four acres. That’s why they want to put the illegal aliens somewhere else, someplace far away from their own beachfront vacation homes. Not that they’re hypocrites, you see, it’s just that darned “affordable housing” shortage on the island.

You can click here to read all about Sarah Goulet’s wedding on Martha’s Vineyard, with an eight-piece band playing at the reception.

Sometimes, It’s Just Too Easy

So I saw this story earlier today:

President Joe Biden on Thursday expressed his frustration with Republican governors sending migrants from the Southern border to Democrat-run cities, calling their actions “Un-American.”
“Republicans are playing politics with human beings, using them as props,” Biden said. “What they’re doing is simply wrong. It’s un-American. It’s reckless”
The president spoke at the Hispanic Caucus Institute Gala celebrating the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Biden reacted to the news Thursday that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis flew a group of migrants to Martha’s Vineyard and that Texas Gov. Greg Abbot sent a busload of migrants to Vice President Kamala Harris’s home in Washington, DC.
He defended his administration’s immigration system, blaming Republicans for getting in the way.
“We have a process in place to manage migrants at the border. We’re working to make sure its safe and orderly and humane,” he said.
Biden spoke quickly and angrily about the situation, although he appeared powerless to stop it.
“Republican officials should not interfere with that process by waging these political stunts,” he said.
The president called for Republicans to join him to pass amnesty for illegal immigrants, calling it “long overdue.” . . .
Biden also noted proudly that schools are reopening after the coronavirus pandemic, reminding the audience that 28 percent of students in public schools are Hispanic.
“You all are going to own the country, man
. We better darn well make sure they have every opportunity they have, not a joke,” he said.

That last line caught my eye — Hispanics “are going to own this country” — and I began to think of the headline I was going to write about it, but then I logged onto Twitter and saw Steve Sailer had beaten me to it.

Exactly. You’re a dangerous far-right extremist if you so much as mention “The Great Replacement,” but here is the President of the United States citing demographic data to celebrate it as fact. And, of course, the “stunt” of flying a few dozen illegals to an elite conclave in Massachusetts exposes the basic dishonesty of the whole thing: Democrats are eager to flood your community with illiterate foreign peasants — that’s “social justice,” see? — but don’t you dare expect them to accept any of these peasants in their community. Why, it’s “un-American” to expect that!

Mystery Surrounds Perpetrator of ‘Deplorable Acts of Anti-Black Hatred’

In September, the Chief Diversity at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Dr. Nefertiti Walker, sent a campus-wide email warning of a “disturbing increase in anti-Black racist incidents,” saying the content of the messages was “vile” and “violently offensive”:

Over the course of several weeks dating back to late August, Black student groups at the University of Massachusetts Amherst have received offensive, blatantly racist emails and online messages.
In their inboxes, Black UMass students have been told by an anonymous person or group that they did not arrive at the commonwealth’s flagship campus on merit, that they are of substandard intelligence, and that they should consider sterilization.
The messages, at least one of which was signed “UMass Coalition for a Better Society,” have been sent to multiple Black student organizations in the first month of school.

Copies of the messages circulated on social media:

University President Marty Meehan vowed swift action:

“The blatantly racist e-mails recently sent to Black student organizations at UMass Amherst and other deplorable acts of anti-Black hatred are appalling and disgusting,” Meehan said in a statement. “While UMass Amherst is still trying to identify the source of these messages, we do know that the messages in no way reflect the true character of the UMass community and we have zero tolerance for such behavior.”
UMass IT and campus police are investigating the identity of the email sender.
“My team in the Office of the President is working with UMass Amherst to investigate and to identify the individuals and/or organizations responsible for these hate-ridden messages, and hold them accountable wherever they are,” Meehan said. “As the campus aggressively pursues the source of these vile messages, we must all join in active support of our students, and re-double our commitment to providing a safe, welcoming community for all students.”

The university doubled-down on the investigation:

UMass Amherst Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy announced that the campus will launch a full-scale investigation into the source of the emails and that the university has secured the services of Stroz Friedberg Digital Forensics, a leading national firm in cyber security.
“While we are mindful of the challenges in determining the source of anonymous emails such as these, we are confident that Stroz Friedberg, with its extensive expertise and technical capacity, will methodically follow every lead in pursuit of the contemptible individual or individuals responsible,” Subbaswamy said in a message to the campus community. . . .
“When the perpetrator of any of these acts is identified, the full weight of the university’s disciplinary and legal apparatus will be brought to bear,” Subbaswamy said in the campus message.

That was September, and now it’s December and yet, despite the services of “a leading national firm in cyber security,” UMass still has not identified the “contemptible” perpetrators, a mystery that inspires Boston Herald columnist Howie Carr’s sarcasm:

Like O.J., they pledge to spend eternity chasing down the real killers. But so far, apparently, not a single MAGA hat or Let’s Go Brandon! T-shirt has turned up at the scene of the crime. Not even a discarded pay stub from a real job.
The snowflakes of Amherst are, as you might expect, baffled.
It’s certainly discouraging, isn’t it, how few of these campus white supremacists are ever brought to justice. In fact, usually they’re never even found. They seldom leave behind a single clue.

Yes, white supremacists are fiendish criminal masterminds, like those Chicago guys in MAGA hats who attacked Jussie Smollett and got away with it because . . . well, white supremacy.

Khaled Awad Update: Student Visa for Egyptian Who Stabbed Massachusetts Rabbi; Roommates Say He Hated Jews

When we first reported on this case, authorities in Massachusetts were still mystified about the motive behind the stabbing of a rabbi in front of a Boston-area Jewish school by 24-year-old Khaled Awad. Some readers may have anticipated this latest development:

An Egyptian man who is accused of stabbing a rabbi outside of a Jewish day school in Boston on Thursday overstayed his student visa and lost his legal status on May 14, Immigration and Customs Enforcement told Fox News.
Khaled Awad, 24, allegedly approached Rabbi Shlomo Noginski with a gun and demanded his car keys, at which point Noginski ran across the street to a park, where Awad stabbed him in the arm multiple times.
He entered the United States two years ago for college, but his legal status recently lapsed.
“Khaled Awad, 24, a citizen of Egypt, entered the United States on a student visa in August 2019,” a spokesman for ICE told Fox News. “However, he failed to stay enrolled as required by law, resulting in a loss of legal status in the U.S on May 14, 2021.” . . .
Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins said her office has launched an investigation into the case but it has not been labeled a hate crime as of yet. . . .
One of Awad’s former friends at the University of South Florida, Eric Valiente, told CBS Boston that Awad was “violent” and “anti-Semitic.”
“He started becoming violent,” Valiente told the local news outlet. “He was very much anti-Semitic. He would say like all types of Jewish jokes. I thought he was joking at first and then I started to see seriousness in his comments.”
Aidan Anderson, a former roommate of Awad’s who is Jewish, told CBS Boston he had to move out and get a restraining order last fall when Awad attacked him in their shared kitchen.
Prosecutors must prove “that a crime is bias-motivated beyond the violent and seemingly targeted nature of the attack” in order to charge a suspect with a hate crime, a spokesman for Rollins’ offfice said. . . .
Prosecutors said in court on Friday that Awad faced charges of battery and theft in Florida and had to be sent to a mental health facility. He had a clean record in Massachusetts.
Awad is currently being held without bail pending a hearing on July 8 to determine if he is a danger to society.

Talk about an open-and-shut case: Jew-hater stabs a rabbi, but you need a court hearing to know whether “he is a danger to society”? And prosecutors aren’t sure they can prove this is a hate crime?

Also, why are we importing Jew-haters from Egypt? Is there a shortage of domestic anti-Semites, so we need to bring them in from foreign countries? Stabbing the rabbis American Jew-haters won’t stab?

Guy Named ‘Khaled Awad’ Stabs Rabbi in Front of a Synagogue: ‘The Motive … Was Not Immediately Clear,’ Police Say

Pretty sure that if some rednecks in Mississippi lynched a black guy, the police might be willing to speculate about the motive:

BOSTON — A man who is accused of stabbing a Brighton rabbi eight times appeared before a judge in Brighton District Court on Friday on charges of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a police officer.
The victim, identified as Rabbi Shlomo Noginski, was stabbed multiple times in the Brighton Common park at Chestnut and Washington streets, near the Shaloh House school.
A suspect, later identified as Khaled Awad, 24, of Brighton, was arrested a short time later on Chestnut Hill Avenue, authorities said.
In court Friday, prosecutors said Awad has no criminal record in Massachusetts but has had incidents in Florida, including battery and theft.
Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins was present in the courtroom for the arraignment. “We believe this individual is a danger to our community,” Rollins said following the arraignment.
Awad was held without bail, with a dangerousness hearing scheduled for next week.
Rollins’ office is still investigating to determine if the attack can officially be called a hate crime.
Court documents say three police officers initially made contact with the suspect, before he ran.
According to the court documents, one of the officers looked around a corner and was confronted by the suspect pointing what appeared to be a black firearm at him. The other police officers drew their firearms and ordered the suspect to drop his weapon multiple times.
The court documents say after a brief, but tense moment, the suspect lowered his weapon and threw it to the ground.
Police said the suspect kicked one of the officers in the stomach as he was being assisted into a transport vehicle for booking.
Rabbi Dan Rodkin, the executive director of the Shaloh House, said Noginski was stabbed eight times.
Rodkin said the suspect approached the rabbi while he was talking on the phone, sitting on the steps of the school.
According to Rodkin, the suspect demanded the rabbi’s car keys at gunpoint but also wanted the rabbi to get in the car.
Court documents, which cite a police interview with Noginski following the incident, say the suspect ordered him to walk over to his vehicle. . . .
Investigators said the motive of the stabbing was not immediately clear.

Yeah, it’s a real mystery, this case. By the way, did you notice this news report says nothing about Awad’s immigration status? Do you suppose it’s possible that Awad came here as some kind of “refugee”? But curiosity is no longer a requirement in the journalism business.

UPDATE: Ace of Spades: “If [the suspect] were white, CNN would already be analyzing what podcasts he listened to, and calling for YouTube to deplatform Tim Pool.” He forgot to add that they would be leading every hour with coverage of the story, and demanding that Republicans in Congress denounce Tim Pool for inciting this hate crime.
