Doug Hoffman Needs Your Help

Mr. K at Jumping in Pools reminds us that the breakthrough Scott Brown made in Massachusetts was, to some extent, made possible by Doug Hoffman’s campaign last year in New York that fell painfully short of victory:
[Democrat] Bill Owens would violate four campaign promises in his inaugural 24 hours of work, outraging citizens and voters across the 23rd congressional district, and resulting in Doug Hoffman seeking the Republican and Conservative nomination once again to challenge Bill Owens in 2010, leaving an interesting election to be held in November.
The Hoffman campaign was a trial run for a new style of grassroots effort. The Brown campaign in Massachusetts learned valuable lessons from what happened in NY23, and conservatives owe a debt of gratitude for Hoffman’s courageous example in standing up to the GOP insiders who tried to foist the RINO Dede Scozzafava on us.
While I was in Massachusetts this past week, I heard some disturbing news: Two other candidates — including a wealthy investment banker — are challenging Hoffman in this year’s GOP primary to take on Owens in November. To which I respond, not just no, but hell no!
Doug Hoffman has earned this shot, and those of us who were inspired by his campaign last fall need to unite to make sure he gets it.
Please contribute to Doug Hoffman’s campaign today. Whether it’s $10 or $20 or $50 or $100, every dollar counts toward ensuring that a year from now, we can be proud to call him Congressman Doug Hoffman.
GO, DOUG, GO!

I have recently become quite the fan of your site and visit it frequently, but Stacey, Stacey, Stacey… I agree with you that the Hoffman race was inspiring; it was encouraging; and it was one hell of a launching pad for what occurred this week in Massachusetts. That being said, Doug Hoffman was a 4 – maybe a 5 on a scale of 1-50 in terms of qualified candidates for that seat. He was leaps and bounds better than the liberal Scozzafava, but in a primary with real candidates who are equally conservative I just can’t see how he stands a chance – or has a place. I’ve got to respectfully disagree with you on this one.
I’m crossing my fingers he doesn’t get the nod. Owens won last time around and I blame Scozzafava and the NYGOP that chose her in the first place. I’d hate for Hoffman to emerge as our candidate and find myself once again blaming the NYGOP for once again choosing the wrong candidate….

Well, this is what should have happened the first time ’round for NY-23 — a contested primary.
If it had, we’d still have the seat.
If I were a resident, I wonder — Hoffman probably lost in the end b/c he wasn’t quite up on some local issues. That (unfortunately) mattered at the margins.
Still, he’s got time to bone up on those, and there would be something very satisfying about seeing him take Owens down the second time ’round. Poetic justice.
So… go Hoffman!
