Ottawa cancels Ann Coulter.

Right-wing antagonist Ann Coulter cancelled a University of Ottawa address last night after organizers decided it wasn’t safe to speak.
The move followed boisterous demonstrations outside that sponsors of the appearance feared could turn violent.

Mark Steyn will no doubt have something blistering on this one, but Canada, you really have wet yourself. Your osteoporosis has reached a point where a woman with long hair and pointed remarks cannot offer them without you fearing for ‘safety’. For crying out loud in the dark, I hope all honest Canucks, who can remember a time before the last hair was shaved off their public bottom in the name of some bogus ’empathy’ god, just come South of the border right now.

The fact that you are upright, law abiding, reasonable citizens means that it will take a while to navigate the USCIS process, I know. But come South anyway, and let’s team up, to try to make at least one country on the continent that doesn’t draw vacuum.

After protesters at the University of Ottawa prevented Ann Coulter from giving a speech Tuesday night, the American conservative writer said it proved the point she came to make – free speech in Canada leaves much to be desired.
Then she said what she really thought of the student protesters who surrounded Marion Hall, making it to unsafe, in the view of her bodyguard, for the pundit to attempt entry.
“The University of Ottawa is really easy to get into, isn’t it?” she said in an interview after the cancelled event. . . .
Coulter said she has been speaking regularly at university campuses for a decade. While she has certainly been heckled, she said this is the first time an engagement has been cancelled because of protesters.
“This has never, ever, ever happened before – even at the stupidest American university,” she said.
Coulter remarked on the reception she has had since entering the country.
“Since I’ve arrived in Canada, I’ve been denounced on the floor of Parliament – which, by the way, is on my bucket list – my posters have been banned, I’ve been accused of committing a crime in a speech that I have not yet given, I was banned by the student council, so welcome to Canada!”

Coulter actually has a case that people are hating her not because she’s beautiful, but because she’s a American. Anti-Americanism is respectable among Canada’s elites, and widespread, but in fact, under Canada’s human rights laws, which include “national or ethnic origin,” it’s just as illegal as hating Somalians.

    They fear Coulter? Coulter is a showgal, but so what. I am not a big fan of hers, but it is words, not hockey pucks she is shooting out of her mouth. What is there to fear?

    Buried in there is a means of stopping the amnesty push in its tracks: illegally import loads of conservative-leaning, baby-producing right-wingers from foreign countries. Once about 30 million right-winger Brits, Canuks, Kiwis, and Germans are illegitimately calling America their new home, no sane Democrat would want to grant amnesty and voting rights to them.

    We’ve got several million people involved in the Tea Party – can we get each person to personally get a few people over the border illegally?

    How can that be in a country which banned most civilian ownership of firearms after a criminal shot up a college campus with a Ruger Mini 14 around 20 years ago?

    Every time I go there I feel like I am in a country which has been castrated.

    That gives me an idea – maybe we can carve out an enclave somewhere in North America where peoples who still believe in liberty can have a country and let the leftwing social blowhards keep their nanny state to themselves. Which parts of the US and which parts of Canada will be the new Land of Liberty?

    Who actually canceled the speech? There is no mention of police or authorities saying it was unsafe. To say it proved the point she came to make, if in fact she chose not to speak, would make it a publicity stunt.

    Christ, I’m surrounded by bloody shrieking fascists and socialists. Just get a load of this commenter to my local newspaper (in London, Ontario) who wants us all rounded up: ‘Ann Coulter is not “funny” and “outspoken”. She is a fear-mongering, lying, wilfully ignorant, hate-spewing, disgusting skank who belongs in a concentration camp with other far-right-wing religious zealots.’

    I replied to her: “My, how delightfully fascist of you.”

    And I sat next to Muslima Fatima at the London Ontario event (I had to leave early unfortunately). She borrowed a pen from me and alternately texted her Muslim buddies while scribbling furiously in Arabic. And I never got my pen back from this Israel hate group member.

    @blair — I agree. Coren is a gem. Although, I’ll bet he makes less than O’Reilly, so perhaps one could argue that “cheap” is fairly accurate in spite of being a bit unkind.
