Rule 5 Sunday

Rule 5 enjoyed another active week. Thanks to all those sending in batch submissions as URLs. We may not be President, but, nevertheless, to the links!

Fortune Rest Edith Shain

Rule 5 salutes an icon of the day when “girls were girls and men were men” who has passed. There was a time when an impromptu pose for a timeless photo in public would not result in a subpoena or a trip to the free clinic. Blogs reporting on the event included:

Father’s Day

Having been booted off of Stacy McCain’s blog as a “God-hater” a few months ago for having the gall for suggesting that Intelligent Design is not science but religion, I had erased him from my radar screen. Until now.

Call be petty but it gives me an odd sense of something to be reading a conservative blogger’s attack on Mr. McCain. I think it’s some form of guilty pleasure but I’m not sure. I’m not proud of it but… Okay then! Now I’m off to confession now! Those kinds of sins stain one’s soul permanently if allowed to dry.

I saw this over at Reihl’s site. I have not seen Pasadena Phil around since 2008. I find it hard to believe you would boot a guy for voicing the same position as John Derbyshire on this issue–but we had a running debate for a year on who was better McCain (yeah, I defended Mac Daddy) and Romney (PP was for Mittens in 2008!). I could have gone for Romney, if he wasn’t thinking five moves ahead what people would like (as opposed to what is right).

Turns out the choice of those two was no choice at all. And Huckabee was worse than them both. But Obama was a lot worse than all three of them, and far worse than many of us thought possible.

Well, actually, it’s not Stacey Dash’s birthday, technically, but my failure to convey the idea that “today” does not necessarily coincide with “the current 24-hour period” should discourage no one from taking a look at this remarkably-gorgeous woman who somehow doesn’t get enough attention.
