Roman Polanski Freed By Switzerland

Posted on | July 12, 2010 | 27 Comments

Because Europeans are “sophisticated” like that:

Switzerland said on Monday it would not send Roman Polanski back to the United States to face sentencing for unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977, freeing the Oscar-winning director from 10 months arrest.
Swiss Justice Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf said she had decided against extradition because of potential technical faults in the U.S. extradition requests but also because Polanski had for years come to Switzerland in good faith. . . .
“He can go to France or to Poland, anywhere where he will not be arrested,” she said.

Nice of Reuters to use the term “unlawful sex” to describe feeding a girl Quaaludes and wine and then anally raping her. All the creeps who have been busted by Chris Hansen on “To Catch a Predator” are watching this news and thinking to themselves: “OK, now I see my mistake. All I’ve got to do is win an Oscar and move to Switzerland and then . . .”

This is a travesty. Sit down and try really hard to think of Roman Polanski’s redeeming qualities. (1) He loved Sharon Tate and was good to her. (2)……..I’m having trouble coming up with a second one.

I don’t think it’s just the Oscar. I think it’s also that people feel sorry for him because his pregnant wife was brutally murdered along with their child. Being a victim of behavior that is brutally disordered doesn’t make it okay for you to become brutally disordered. Sheesh!

Oh, and yes, there is that “European sophistication” factor, too. You’re right.

You know, the victim has officially forgiven Polanski. Anyone here willing to field that factoid and give us some meaningful interpretation?

I don’t know if she has officially forgiven him but I do understand she would rather everybody just move on and frankly, why don’t we? The best protest is to stop giving this guy any of our money. He is a degenerate pig. We know it and so does he and so does his victim. Don’t give your money to him or any actor who supports him. That is the strongest point one can make in this situation. And P.S. Europe is bizarre.

That no longer matters, it is irrelevant.

1)He already pled guilty, and jumped before sentencing. That he did it is not in dispute.

2)It’s a criminal matter, not a civil one. How she feels about it has no bearing on the state’s interest in justice. In other words, it’s no longer to help her, but to try to keep those who haven’t been molested yet from ever being put in that situation.

And Red, what you say is all we can do, until we can get him arrested and extradited successfully somewhere else. Life will go on, yes. But he will have a reckoning, in this life or the next.

@ Jeff: It seems the U.S. judicial system dropped the ball on this. That or Switzerland has a soft spot for pedos. I don’t like the outcome at all and I agree. At this point it isn’t about the victim so much as it is about getting this guy to own up and serve his debt to society. He wouldn’t have to keep looking over his shoulder if he would just face the music already. And you’re right, he has a reckoning coming to him either in this life or the next.

The US system didn’t drop the ball — Polanski ran, and found people willing to shield him.

    That isn’t the Americans’ fault.

That anyone thinks the cretin deserves anything more than a tall tree and a short rope is amazing.

He raped and sodomized a child. He was convicted after admitting he was guilty.

On second thought, hangin’ may be too good for the scumball.
