Irony Alert: Eric Boehlert Is an Expert on What Is ‘Ugly and Contemptible’

Much, much more at Memeorandum, including an ill-considered anti-Breitbart piece by David Frum and a kind of wishy-washy piece by Jonah Goldberg.

A couple of points: First, Andrew Breitbart didn’t fire Shirley Sherrod; Tom Vilsack did. Secondly, according to Steve Doocy, “Fox News never mentioned the story until after Sherrod had quit” — and if Doocy is right, as Dan Riehl says, the administration’s pre-emptive Blame-Fox excuse is non-operative.

    Breitbart screwed up, no question. He should have known better than to release it without getting the rest of the video. If he would have had the full context, we wouldn’t be wringing our hands about it, now would we?

    But y4e, gg, and Cameroonian, Obama and his administration went even further, and nearly eliminated any real deserved blowback on Breitbart with their ham-handed reaction. The mere fact she was fired so quickly lent absolute (at the time) legitimacy to the substance of the video. Why else would they ask for her resignation if it weren’t true?

    Thank God for the Anchoress, she sussed out from the original video that there was a punchline missing. And she correctly assumed it was redemptive.

    Well, we found out in the last two days. the administration was so afraid of what they thought might happen, that they tripped over themselves to effect damage control. To the point they made the fire worse. Now, the administration has had to go on record basically apologizing for everyone, and Sherrod has been offered a promotion.

    Kinda thin-skinned and defensive on the part of the “post-partisan, post-racial” administration, don’t you think?

    Anyway, one of you brought up Dan Rather. Was there this much “wait we were wrong” on the left after that? No. There are STILL people out there on your side trying to argue the Killian memos are REAL. So, take your stones to another glass house. We’ve got this one – we police our own.
