EMERGENCY: SAVE STOGIE!

Posted on | July 31, 2010 | 129 Comments

OK, folks, no kidding around this time, it’s time to help a friend in urgent need:

Home foreclosures are continuing at a brisk pace, according to an article by McClatchy News. Many of the first foreclosures that began three years ago, when the housing bubble began to burst, were for subprime mortgages. Now, however, a fresh batch of foreclosures is occurring because people have lost their jobs and can’t pay them. I am now in that category. I didn’t pay my July mortgage payment and probably will miss August as well. I haven’t been answering the phone, which rings constantly from bill collectors.
Our savings kept us afloat for a year. When it was gone, I borrowed the equity out of my life insurance. That’s gone too. We were hoping to ride out this recession, to survive until it was over. However, it is the longest lasting and deepest recession I have ever seen. . . . .
It’s just a matter of weeks before I lose my home. . . . I am a college graduate and a CPA. Accountants were supposed to be immune from unemployment. Not any more. . . .

GO HIT STOGIE’S TIP JAR NOW! Every $5 or $10 helps, folks. This post will be sticky at the top of the page for a couple of days, and I’ll urge my blogger friends to join this campaign.

UPDATE: Thanks to Bob Belvedere at Camp of the Saints, Red at Caught Him With a Corndog, Pete at Da Tech Guy and Fisherville Mike for joining Operation Save Stogie.

Coincidentally or not, the news today highlights how Obamanomics has failed to address the kind of situation Stogie is facing. Here’s a Huffington Post headline:

Dwindling Retirement Savings ‘Undiscussed Explosive Bomb’ Of Recession
. . . Aside from stagnant wages, soaring unemployment and plummeting home values, the major tragedy of this recession is the havoc it has wreaked on the retirement incomes of millions of Americans who have planned and saved their entire lives, only to watch that money drain out of their accounts much sooner than they anticipated.
Retirement statistics are grim. The percentage of American workers who said they have less than $10,000 in savings grew to 43 percent in 2010, according to a recent survey by the Employee Benefit Research Institute. . . .

And even liberals like Chris Hayes of the Nation are now denouncing the “HAMP” mortgage-adjustment program as “the single biggest failure of the Obama Administration” — which is some pretty stiff competition!

Stogie says thanks to those who’ve hit his tip jar during this emergency, and if you haven’t contributed yet, please do so today.

UPDATE: Georgia homegirl Obi’s Sister joins the campaign.

Typical y4e. No argument, so you revert to calling names. You should have quit while you were behind.

You also refuse to understand my point, which makes my point quite nicely.

Let me spell it out for you. You are arguing with what you think we are like. It is not a “fact” that Pat’s behavior is “conservative”, except in your mind. That’s called an opinion. And his behavior is more properly termed “despicable”.

Open your eyes and open your mind. We are not the bogeymen you think. You really should start evaluating facts rather than letting MSNBC, Kos, TPM, and HuffPo do it for you, badly. You just might be able to let go some of that impotent rage.

Hey, I’m just going by what your side claims it represents. Pat’s attitude is entirely consistent with Conservative policy: Healthcare–screw them. Unemployment–screw them. Katrina–screw them.

“That’s called an opinion. And his behavior is more properly termed “despicable”.”
Yeah, I agree its despicable. That is why I am not a Conservative. I’m ont standing up for the guy. Just pointing out a curious irony.
BTW, I look forward to seeing you post an “opinion” as fact, considering that it is what Conservatives do best. Remember when Charles Krauthammer was trying to validate Faux News by christening it ” opinion journalism”? Yeah, everybody bought into that one. But it sheds light on the idea that Conservatives try to legislate on “opinion”, hence the anti-gay propositions. Not to mention how Conservatives are so enamored with “opinion polls” to fight legislation they don’t like.
Yeah, Jeff. Keep preaching to me about opinions…

    All,

    Please donate.

People like Pat are not worth the typing time. Donating is. I don’t know this person at all, nor have I ever read his blog prior to today.

Pat wins everytime we let our fellow Americans down. If we want limited government, we need to show the Pat’s what free people do when there is crisis. We don’t turn it into a power grab.

We respond, we pray, we show that government fails and free people do not.

And just for the record – actions taken by the Obama adinistration have directly reduced the revenue of my employer by 25%. There will be obvious impacts to many others as the ripple effect affects 35 communities where we have staff who have lost their jobs. Others have accepted significant wage cuts or retired or become consultants – 1099 staff who unburden the company of overhead.

To stop what’s happening we need to change who’s in Washington

Our stategy is simple, first we win 2010 – flip congress and the Senate and capture a majority of states to control redistricting.

Next we work hard in 2011 to replace the RINOs. Every RINO gets a primary – Why? It forces establishment RINOs to spend money. We starve the establishment, we don’t volunteer for them in Primaries and we don’t give them money. Even when we don’t win, we force them to concentrate carefully when they reach across the aisle to socialists

In 2012, we hit the Dems again, replacing more or gerrymandering their districts out of existance. We take the Presidency. With the congress and Presidency in hand we have 1 vote – The healthcare bill, financial reform bill, and the remaining TARP funds are repealed/taken from the President

In 2013 we repeat 2011 and up the game by going after liberal judges. For any judge who cites foreign law we go for impeachment. For those we cannot impeach, we defund their court. For those who don’t get teh message – we do what the founders did with teh Judicial act and reoprganize the courts out of existance, e.g the ninth court gets cut up to exist only in San Francisco.

2014 we attack again, and we push to repeal the amendments that made the income tax possible and took away the State’s seat at the table – we mandate 1 Senator from each state must be selected by the legislature of each state

    Let’s get to work

    4 eyes –

Don’t bring knives to gun fights

Barak Obama through executive order has started firing government contractors. It is called in-sourcing. Sounds innocuous – like all Orwellian words from this administration – it is devastating.

Government agencies are required to convert contractor positions to government positions. The bureaucracy is complying. They are firing contractors and opening gov jobs. The problem is that the gov hiring process takes at least 90 days and can take 1 year or more. So contractor fired, no gov employee hired. When the gov does hire, they try to fill the positions with significantly lower qualified people. The contractor staff do not take the jobs because as soon as the folks are fired they either retire, move, or take other jobs at reduced pay, but pay hire than what the gocv now offers. It’s effectively forced impoverishment. Further, in the gap of 90 days to 1 year critical actions supporting the war on terror, medical testing, or other activities don’t take place. The problems ripple quickly. Inside the company, there are now more people being carried on overhead (eating profits and taking companies into the RED) – the company loses value.

As the company loses value its credit lines dry up – that would be because the government under Barak Obama is redoing all the financial regs making lenders uncertain about the future. Now the company’s cash on-hand begins to be used, depleting cash reserves. If it is a public company, the board and shareholders force management to cut expenses until cash is not being depleted.

Barak Obam’s executive order creates the unemployment – directly. Barak Obama’s finance law, rammed through congress against the will and full knowledge of the people, indirectly increasing the unemployment.

President Obama could, through executive order, undo in-sourcing and improve employment by a full point. Government jobs reduce the productivity of the society and the individual. Contractors who work for the government perform most of the work – that’s why when the government employees all stayed home through this winter’s storms, nothing bad happened. Barak’s in-sourcing hasn’t started and the people who do the work were covering the bases – often with uncompensated overtime.

The left is always most generous with other people’s money.

My thoughts and prayers for Stogie – I’m a victim of Obamanomics myself, and can relate to the dilemma of 50-somethings suddenly unemployed. Those of us in management positions face employers who would prefer to promote from within, building their own farm system for less money than “free agency” while also avoiding the pitfalls of hiring older workers: more medical claims, shorter time to retirement, etc. Even experience is discounted, because many prefer to have managers trained in their own systems, and don’t want outsiders rocking the boat.
