Event To Build Character Scheduled On Ann. Of Famous Speech On Character Denounced By Those Lacking Character

This blog is looking forward to having a fine, American, a-political time at Glen Beck’s 8/28 event.

From the 8/28 page:

What can I bring?
You can bring small umbrellas, bottled water (plastic bottles only please), bag lunches, snacks (e.g. Stacy’s vanilla pudding), lawn chairs, cameras, blankets, small coolers, backpacks, and flags. Also, we advise that you bring hats (say, a fedora) and sunscreen.

What can I NOT bring?
As a security precaution, the following items will be prohibited from the event sites:

  • NO signs (political or otherwise) as they may deter from the peaceful message we are bringing to Washington.
  • Firearms (either real or simulated)
  • Ammunition
  • Explosives of any kind (including fireworks, to the chagrin of Stacy McCain)
  • Knives, blades, or sharp objects (of any length)
  • Mace and/or pepper spray
  • Helium balloons
  • Sticks or poles
  • Pocket or hand tools, such as “leatherman”
  • Packages
  • Large bags (anything larger than a backpack)
  • Duffle bags
  • Suitcases
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Aerosols
  • Laser pointers
  • Animals other than service/guide dogs
  • Structures (i.e tents)
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Other items that may pose a threat to the security of the event

Who are the speakers?
The speakers include representatives from SOWF, Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, Dr. Alveda King and Marcus Luttrell. Jo Dee Messina will be performing as well.

Character vs. ‘characters’

Beck was quoted in the comPost as saying:

. . .whites don’t own the Founding Fathers. Whites don’t own Abraham Lincoln. Blacks don’t own Martin Luther King. Humans, humans embrace their ideas or reject their ideas. Too many are rejecting the Founders’ ideas. Too many have forgotten Abraham Lincoln’s ideas and far too many have either gotten just lazy or they have purposely distorted Martin Luther King’s ideas of judge a man by the content of his character. Lately, in the last 20 years, we’ve been told that character doesn’t matter. Well, if character doesn’t matter, then what was Martin Luther King asking people to judge people by?

The WaPo goes on to say:

Beck’s choice of day and place for the rally “is insulting, is what it is,” Marc Morial, president of the National Urban League, said in an interview Monday. “August 28 is something special. It is a day that means something in American history because it was the demonstration in the United States in support of civil rights.”
Beck’s plans are “an effort to embarrass and poke a finger in the eye of the civil rights community because Glenn Beck and his public utterances don’t necessarily demonstrate a consistency with the vision of King.”
Sharpton, who has planned a march that day to commemorate King’s legacy, says Beck’s rally contradicts King’s legacy. Sharpton said he began planning in April for his “Reclaim the Dream Rally,” which is scheduled to begin at Dunbar High School in Northwest Washington and end at the planned site of the King memorial on the Mall. The event, supported by the NAACP, the Urban League and Martin Luther King III, “is not a countermarch to Beck,” nor will the rally be about confrontation. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will be among the participants, according to a news release from Sharpton’s National Action Network.

As you say, Rev. Sharpton. You and the NAACP just stay classy.

In Closing

Why Stacy McCain wasn’t invited to speak at the 8/28 event is not exactly clear. There may not be enough time for him to get back from speaking at the Gay Vanilla Pudding Manufacturers of Bulungi Convention in Yabba-Dabba. Perhaps he can catch an earlier flight out of Primo-Ganja Airport, but it’s probably too late to book him. Blame Erik Telford, and remember the Gooey Shoe Leather fund.

We cannot over-emphasize the falsehood of the Leftist attempts to tear down America and Americans, but we should certainly attend events like this and give it a solid American try, honor of those who’ve gone before us, and do everything positive and possible to return our country to its founding ideals.

Dontcha just know there’s gonna be some honkie-lovers showing up at 8/28 all uppity and stuff; thinking their lives belong to them and not the great, brown collective. Makes me wanna spit.

    Alcoholic beverages?

I thought only Beck had to give them up!

Well that counts me out, as I have all those things with me at all time ever day of the year…

You sure this ain’t one of those, you know, happy pride parades? And as I know Stacy would say, NTTAWWT.

I predict violent screaming matches, from one or both sides. Its inevitable; people always want prove they are OH SO RIGHT.

And no signs? Half the fun was reading the signs at Tea Parties. Some get so creative and artistic. I wish I could go to this. It sounds legit; I surprising love the quote of Beck’s you have posted. Can’t wait to read about it and see pictures on this blog!

    1. That anyone from the heinously corrupt Morial clan should be lecturing others is about all you need to know about the WaPo’s notions of righteousness.

    2. NO FIREWORKS? It’s as if Beck is begging me to denounce him.

No Poles?! Darn it, Lech Walesa had his heart set on going. ;^)

Actually, I think he would support such a event. I wish I could go too.

“This blog is looking forward to having a fine, American, a-political time at Glen Beck’s 8/28 event.”

Are you kidding? A-political? What do you expect on that day? A bake sale? Cooking tips from Sarah Grizzly? Seriously dude.
The header is the best:” Event to build character”…
I see, and that’s going to happen because the organizer is a character himself? Or is it because he is a character who lacks character?
Before you go pouting about Rev. Sharpton’s gathering, you should know he’s been organizing gatherings on that day in that same place for several years now. So why don’t you get some class so you can stay classy. At least get informed.

And Randy Rager, my favorite ranting meat head: go complain to the event organizer (Beck) about the restrictions before you kvetch about DC being overrun by pussies.
Although, that would be an apt description of what’s going to happen to DC on this upcoming 8-28…

Seeing as how the energy on your side has dissipated, I’ve been thinking about a new rebranding idea for the Tea Party—The Dick Army.
    C’mon. You know that’s awesome…

    Wish I could go, too.

I think this event is going to surprise people. I don’t think what the anti-Beck and anti-Tea Party crowd thinks is going to happen, will happen. I love the “no signs” rule. The leftist media has deliberately used the most extreme signs to define the entire movement, so this will be delicious. Beck already said that if attendees see anyone with a sign, to politely ask them to leave it behind.

If they refuse, he said, “There’s a pretty good chance they’re an infiltrator.” Yes. The left is going to have a tougher time trying to impersonate the other side when really, there won’t be anything to hide behind.

    @Y4E,
Oh, I’m sure that a positive, party-free celebration of warriors could be “re-framed” as a political even by those whose sole purpose in life is to tear down, rather than build up.
Nothing in the post is meant to disrespect those dung beetles among us who, with the flies and cockroaches, form a sleepless three piece decay trio.
Everyone has their place in the ecosystem, after all.

Smitty, either you’re being naively optimistic about this ” celebration of warriors” or you’re just trying really hard to keep your tongue in your cheek.
In fact, the whole idea of “restoring honor” by someone who was obviously permanently damaged by his years of alcohol and/or drug abuse is too funny to put into words.
Do you really expect anyone to believe that the purpose of this rally is not political? Trust me, there will be no framing required. The host and guest speakers cannot help themselves but to preach, especially in front of a crowd of people willing to go out of their way to attend…

Y4E, if you were listening to Beck the past… well, since January, you’d know that his direction has been headed toward God. In fact, he has been more bold than ever in his references to God and how this country won’t be changed by the GOP taking more seats in November.

I also find it amazing that you can’t see the appropriateness of how someone who has battled addiction is now leading others to restoration. It’s a perfect platform for someone like Beck. He, more than many, knows what it’s like to lose honor. Just yesterday he mentioned what was most important to him when he was getting his life back on track was restoring the honor of his word. “That my word would be my bond, and people would trust me again.”

Restoring honor begins with us. That’s a message everyone could bear hearing. And whether our agnostic/atheist friends like it or not; honor does have to do with knowing who God is, His place in our lives, and being accountable to Him. The rest of life’s decisions will fall into place once we get that figured out.

    @Y4E,
Ah, the cherished ad hominem against Beck. I had thought you might let the thread build a little more before you let fly.
Here’s a whacky notion along the lines of a scientific experiment: judge the event sequentially after it has occurred. You know, empirical evidence and all.
    Just a thought.
