Wisconsin State Supreme Court Angers Big Labor by Upholding Walker’s Law

Posted on | June 14, 2011 | 30 Comments

This is big news:

Acting with unusual speed, the state Supreme Court on Tuesday reinstated Gov. Scott Walker’s plan to all but end collective bargaining for tens of thousands of public workers.

The unions, Democrats and their liberal allies are, as you might expect, apoplectic with rage. For example, Ed Schultz on MSNBC was even more obnoxious than usual today.

Allahpundit notes that David Prosser was in the majority on the 4-3 vote.

UPDATE: Excellent suggestion from Jeff in Walla Walla:

It should not have been so close, but it is a woodshedding.  And Sumi’s butt should be sore.

Even the minority was not exactly enamored with Sumi.

    The lower court got told.

The lower court got five across the eyes.  This could only have been better if the Supremes had called the lower court in and beaten them with their own gavels.

How is this a good news for the republican lawmakers facing recall elections in Wisconsin?

Maybe because the Copperhead lies about how the law was passed have been decisively refuted?

    I know, facts, Copperheads, Kryptonite….

    “NOOOOO!!! NOT A FACT!! NOOOoooo!”

Note how according to her legislators should act in accordance with their long-term career goals in mind. Not what’s actually for the good of the state. No, they should act to please the mob that makes the most noise, the hell with the good of the state. Thankfully, even if some Republicans are replaced in a recall, even enough to retake the Senate, it won’t be enough to change the law or to override a gubernatorial veto.

    STFU.

it won’t be enough to change the law or to override a gubernatorial veto.

Say that if and when the republican gov who is incredibly losing job approval ratings because of the law, becomes eligible for a recall and bites the dust.

What, a 4-3  vote with Posser (who just managed to hang on to his job) ending up in the bare majority is somehow decisive? The irony in your comment is just brilliant.

BTW even if Prosser lost and Kloppenburg voted to tilt the scales of the judgment in order to strike down the law, the victory for dems would have been only minor.  The R legislature would have easily passed the law again in  a week or two, this time following all the rules; they anyway have the numbers, with the recalls a long time away to be of any factor in the short term.

What this judgement does is it closes the door on any of the Rs to have a “change of mind” in how they vote if tehy fear losing a looming recall election.

Employment is increasing in his state.  His budget shows a surplus.  The court upheld the law. His opponents are terrorizing mentally challenged children at Special Olympics events. You think he’ll be recalled?  In the immortal expression of Gallagher’s two-year-old child: “Are you THAT F***in’ Stupid?”

They already followed all the rules. Read the fricking ruling and stop lying.

  • Crawford

Yeah, we know. The left won’t stand for this. If the legal recall doesn’t happen (and it can’t, at least for another year and a half), then they’ll work themselves up to an extra-legal recall.

That’s only one of the habitual failings of Manic Progressives. They insist on believing their own mythologies and are baffled when others don’t. While there are treatments for this condition, curing them destroys their entire belief system.

You do realize you are arguing with an inanimate object.

It doesn’t matter. A Federal judge will declare it unconsitutional, stonewalling the law. That’s what liberals do. Because the people are ignorant how government is supposed to work. We allow one judge to overrule millions of people.

This country may not last 20 yrs.

This ruling doesn’t get challenged in Federal Court not even the 9th is that stupid. The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that the underlying suit never happened as it is impossible to challenge a bill unless and until it becomes law and then harms someone. If this goes to court again the Bolsheviks will have to start from scratch.

The leftards would feel pretty stupid if Walker laid off half the state government workforce just because they forced his hand as the only way to bring the state’s budget in balance. He should do it whether he has to or not. Probably half those clowns are slackers on the job. A lot of them are probably even no-shows.
