Florida: Adam Hasner for Senate

Posted on | June 27, 2011 | 6 Comments

In next year’s GOP primary to take on vulnerable Democrat Sen. Bill Nelson, conservatives are rallying behind Adam Hasner as the best hope of avoiding the RINO George Lemieux, who has described himself as a “Charlie Crist Republican“:

With several contenders for the Republican nomination, it’s important to unite conservatives behind one candidate to prevent Lemieux from winning. Hasner is a former state legislator who supported Marco Rubio against Crist in the 2010 campaign, and he has the endorsement of Erick Erickson of Red State, Ohio’s Ken Blackwell and talk-radio host Mark Levin. As a sitting senator, Rubio isn’t going to endorse a candidate in the primary, but many of his grassroots supporters are on Team Hasner, including our Florida blog-buddy Sarah Rumpf.

We need the best conservative available so as not to split the vote.  I agree.

I hopped on the Hasner bandwagon when he first announced and the Levin endorsement makes me happy.  Lemieux very well might be a rino though he did endorse Rubio when Crist jumped parties.  the one that worries me is Mike Haridopolos he’s going to use his position of majority leader of the state senate to fund raise a lot of money.  he’s shown to have little control over a 2 to 1 majority in the senate and has allowed conservative bills to be consistently watered down or killed outright.  His leadership was so damn ineffective during the regular session the republican controlled house passed their budge and left town.

Hasner would be a decent Senator, he certainly would fit in.  McCalister is more likely to shake things up.  Haridopoulos is definitely an establishment pol, and LeMieux ‘s admission to being a “Charlie Crist Republican” (meaning:  the trash we took out last year) gets points for honesty at least, but hardly makes him an attractive candidate to Republicans.  Expect Democrats to cross over to affect our primary, though, and he will be their guy.

Thanks for writing about Adam Hasner. I’ve met all the Republican candidates and he really is BOTH the most solidly conservative candidate AND the best opponent to send to fight Bill Nelson in the general election.
