Press release from the Herman Cain campaign:
For Immediate Release:
Wednesday, July 27, 2011
For More Information:
Ellen Carmichael, (678) 601-2772
[email protected]Cain Meets with American Muslim Leaders
(Stockbridge, GA)- Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain met with American Muslim leaders this afternoon at the ADAMS Center in Sterling, Virginia. After the meeting, Cain issued the following statement:
I would like to thank Imam Mohamed Magid and the ADAMS Center for extending their hospitality to me this afternoon. We enjoyed heartfelt fellowship and thoughtful dialogue about how patriotic Americans of all faiths can work together to restore the American Dream.
While I stand by my opposition to the interference of shariah law into the American legal system, I remain humble and contrite for any statements I have made that might have caused offense to Muslim Americans and their friends. I am truly sorry for any comments that may have betrayed my commitment to the U.S. Constitution and the freedom of religion guaranteed by it. Muslims, like all Americans, have the right to practice their faith freely and peacefully.
As I expected, we discovered we have much more in common in our values and virtues. In my own life as a black youth growing up in the segregated South, I understand their frustration with stereotypes. Those in attendance, like most Muslim Americans, are peaceful Muslims and patriotic Americans whose good will is often drowned out by the reprehensible actions of jihadists.
I am encouraged by the bonds of friendship forged today at our meeting, and I look forward to continuing this very healthy dialogue. The relationship we established was so positive that the Imam has invited me back to speak to not only some of their youth, but also at one of their worship services. In attendance at Wednesday’s meeting were:
Imam Mohamed Magid, Executive Director of the ADAMS Center.
Sister Humera Khan, Director, Muflehun.org.
Joshua Salaam, Youth Director of the ADAMS Center, former U.S. military officer.
Robert Marro, Board of Trustees at the ADAMS Center, former U.S. Foreign Service Officer (Minister, Counselor of Embassy)The ADAMS Center serves more than 5,000 families in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. To contact the ADAMS Center, please call (703) 433-1325.
Friends of Herman Cain will release photographs of the meeting later this week.
Well? Will all those who were denouncing Cain as an “Islamophobe” apologize now? Or will those who defended Cain against such accusations now abandon him? Will this suffice to end the whole “Cain-vs-Islam” controversy?
These are just questions.
Answering such questions is above my pay-grade.
UPDATE: The readership does not seem to approve — to put it rather mildly. In the comments below, Bob Belvedere cites references indicating that Imam Magid and ISNA are connected to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas.
As readers might deduce, I was rather stunned by this press release. Even more stunning? More than an hour and a half after I posted Cain’s press release, Drew M. hat-tipped Byron York for the same press release.
Because Byron York is important. And I’m chopped liver.

You miss the point. It was never about “Cain vs. Muslims” for most observant Americans. It still is “Cain vs. Freedom” for us. Cain has much more explaining to do regarding his statements on 1st and 2nd amendment issues and the Liberty those amendments recognize.

From Jihad Watch [07MAR11]:
Imam Mohamed Magid is the President of the Islamic Society of North America. ISNA has admitted ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas, and is an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas terror funding case.

Herman Cain is dead to me now.
July 27th, 2011 @ 11:55 pm
Cain is about separation of
churchmosque and state. What is there not to like?July 27th, 2011 @ 11:58 pm
Did they ordain him Imam Cain? Very disappointed! I want to change parties, but I don’t know where to go? I might start my own political party and call it Tea Party Hobbits just to please the other other McCain (I mean the supid McCain).

http://www.militantislammonitor.org/article/id/1291 More on Magid.
You are going to make Stacy cry Bob.
This statement is hardly a deal breaker for me with Cain, at least not yet. But I am paying attention.

From Steve Emerson’s site The Investigative Project On Terrorism:
The FOIA records also show that Mohamed Magid, Vice President of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), traveled to the Middle East in November of 2007 through the Citizen Exchange Program (CEP). That program is run by the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. State Department. Magid was an adviser for the Sterling Charitable Gift Fund, which was raided by the U.S. as part of the SAAR Network, a network of groups suspected of terrorist connections. A government affidavit stated that the Sterling Charitable Gift Fund was used for money laundering and terrorist financing.
In addition, Magid has downplayed the Darfur genocide, arguing during a 2004 Georgetown University forum that a fraction of the reported 50,000 people killed actually died:
“I think somebody made a mistake and put a zero, they had no problem. But what happened in this issue here, things escalated and people called it genocide. There is a fight, people have been displaced, people lost their homes and they need help but at the same time I want to say there is some kind of exaggeration of the some of the problems.”
Like CAIR, ISNA was an unindicted co-conspirator in the HLF prosecution. It was listed among “entities who are and/or were members of the US Muslim Brotherhood.”

I for one am not abandoning him. This meeting was perhaps an unfortunate necessity in the grand scheme of damage control. Reagan also had a tendency to shoot from the lip as it were (anyone remember the ‘trees cause pollution’ gaffe?) and he turned out to be a great President. Having said all of that, Reagan’s camp realized they had a problem and solved it with very strong message discipline. Word to the wise.

CAIN: While I stand by my opposition to the interference of shariah law into the American legal system, I remain humble and contrite for any statements I have made that might have caused offense to Muslim Americans and their friends. I am truly sorry for any comments that may have betrayed my commitment to the U.S. Constitution and the freedom of religion guaranteed by it. Muslims, like all Americans, have the right to practice their faith freely and peacefully.
No true Muslim can practice their faith ‘peacefully’. To be considered a Muslim, one must practice Jihad and work towards the implementation of Sharia Law everywhere.
To make such a statement as he did is to proclaim to all the world that you are incredibly naive — and there is no excuse for that nearly ten years after 09/11.
July 28th, 2011 @ 12:25 am
I do love Herman Cain. And, despite the current tendency to pounce on a person’s every WORD without looking at the big picture, I do think MOST of us got it – we knew he was talking about radical Islam, the ones who flew planes into out buildings and continue to murder people all over the world – and we KNOW that Sharia Law has no place in America. At. All. Period. End, Of. Story. We do not support “honor” killings, we do not support those who jockey for position with their cellphones while a teenage girl’s head is crushed with a cinder block, for the crime of having a boyfriend. We do not want to see any tolerance of THAT in this country. That is separate from appreciating good people of all faiths, a hallmark of this nation, and something we are proud of.
We know the difference. And, the sad thing is that those who commit those acts are not the ones apologizing.
Herman Cain knows the difference, and hopefully, those he met with understand it as well. It’s certainly a dialog that needs to be had.
July 28th, 2011 @ 12:46 am
Cain’s just practicing his own version of taqqiya. It works for Muslims… until the mask drops.
July 28th, 2011 @ 12:49 am
For the sake of argument, let’s say your right. Did he have to grovel? [While I stand by my opposition to the interference of shariah law into the American legal system, I remain humble and contrite for any statements I have made that might have caused offense to Muslim Americans and their friends.]
July 28th, 2011 @ 1:31 am
Honestly, that mush Cain wrote/said is making me looks elsewhere for my vote in 2012….
July 28th, 2011 @ 1:33 am
look elsewhere…
July 28th, 2011 @ 1:57 am
I think you have your answer, no apologies and lots of calls to abandon ship.
July 28th, 2011 @ 2:06 am
Here’s something else you can look forward to. More Somali immigrants. The UN has recently put out a statement to the effect that Islamic fundamentalism is responsible for the horrid conditions that afflict the general population of Somalia and that the entire country suffers because of it. That’s just another way of telling the industrial world that they should take in more of them on humanitarian grounds. That includes the US, naturally. Let’s see what Herman has to say about that. Not just him, everybody.
July 28th, 2011 @ 2:24 am
He should have just kept his mouth shut. I have not made up my mind on any of the candidates, but comments like this make me think twice. I am glad the campaign has started already, and I am learning. Like Gingrich he would have had more supporters if he had kept his mouth shut. They do not learn and they end up governing us. There is a reason why we have one mouth and 2 ears. But please do not tell them that. Let them speak!
July 28th, 2011 @ 2:33 am
Herman, your seat on the couch next to Newt and T Paw is ready. Have fun watching the primary season, from the outside.
July 28th, 2011 @ 2:43 am
You know, come to think of it, I bet it was the consultants who suggested to Mr. Cain to do this.
July 28th, 2011 @ 2:55 am
You do have persuasive arguments Bob…but I also understand that even Herman Cain has to do politics.
July 28th, 2011 @ 3:22 am
With his statement, Mr. Cain appears to have abandoned Reality.
July 28th, 2011 @ 3:27 am
Anybody dumb enough to listen to a professional political consultant is not fit to be president.
July 28th, 2011 @ 3:28 am
You can’t be serious.
July 28th, 2011 @ 4:53 am
Roger, Cain got rolled. Too bad.
July 28th, 2011 @ 4:57 am
“No true Muslim can practice their faith ‘peacefully’. To be considered a
Muslim, one must practice Jihad and work towards the implementation of
Sharia Law everywhere.”
Correct.
July 28th, 2011 @ 5:03 am
Wishful thinking and ignorance. Kool Aid. Islam is Islam, no break-down into moderate and radical. Sunni and Shia differentiation in ideology and clerical structures, mere internals, but externally, both aggressive, murderous imperialists (“Sharia”).
July 28th, 2011 @ 5:06 am
“Did he have to grovel?”
That’s the essence of this. No, he did not. He could be rolled and was. Out of his depth in this race.
July 28th, 2011 @ 5:09 am
“With his statement, Mr. Cain appears to have abandoned Reality.”
Delete “appears to have.”
Dhimmi who doesn’t know it.
July 28th, 2011 @ 5:13 am
“You know, come to think of it, I bet it was the consultants who suggested to Mr. Cain to do this.”
What ThePaganTemple says, below, at least on this axial matter.
July 28th, 2011 @ 5:54 am
I look forward for McCain to start a cousin blog:
The Other Cain dot com or something.
July 28th, 2011 @ 6:00 am
I don’t belong to the T party, but i like to party.
July 28th, 2011 @ 6:21 am
“Islam” is a terrorist state.
July 28th, 2011 @ 6:46 am
I understand you are in a state of terror. Do it quietly under your bed. Please don’t pee on this blog. Thanks.
July 28th, 2011 @ 6:51 am
That’s OK. Bob is an exception.

A second fundamental and unforced error. Cain didn’t need to apologize to any particular muslim group, he needed to apologize to all Americans for being too ready to intrude on their basic rights to indulge popular fancy, which was the very thing the Founders sought to prevent with a Republic.
Cain’s a good man who speaks his mind, which is an admirable trait. However it is often fatal for a politician to speak his mind before thinking about what he wishes to say. Not that they should attempt to mislead, but rather consider more carefully the meaning and possible interpretations of their words.
The best term for it was used to describe some old politician, I can’t remember who it was about or who said it (maybe Mencken, but that’s a guess): “He speaks the truth, judiciously.”
Here’s my concern: in a debate, Cain would be right on the facts and the economics and the right and wrong of policy nearly all the time, but the slick-talking huckster Obama could spend the whole time saying nothing, but using focus-group-tested words that evoke favorable responses (for instance, “balanced approach” or “compromise”), and come out on top. And be seen the big winner if Cain made one little stupid slip – again.
He’s been committing errors like the 1962 Mets.
July 28th, 2011 @ 7:51 am
Yeah but Reagan didn’t go around apologizing for it.
Especially the wording of that apology; ” I remain humble and contrite for any statements I have made that
might have caused offense to Muslim Americans and their friends.”
Friends? What Friends might THOSE be?
With whatever threat was made, Herman was given an ultimatum and he CAVED!
Ditto Bob’s opinion. Cain was never in my top 3 but he was interesting and might have made the finals but NOT NOW.
July 28th, 2011 @ 11:33 am
This is why Republican candidates and their donors should be supporting the right-blogs instead of those idiot “consultants”. WE could have TOLD HIM that he was being led into campaign killing dhimmitude!
July 28th, 2011 @ 11:47 am
It ain’t your blog ? although I understand, ’cause you Bolshes love to confiscate property.
July 28th, 2011 @ 11:53 am
I’ve cut him a lot of slack because I believe his campaign is still in it’s shakedown cruise. He’s been improving.
I like the guy an awful lot and he was my second choice after Mrs. Palin, but this is a deal-breaker.
The two biggest enemies we have are the ongoing destruction [self-inflicted, especially] of Western Culture and Society and Mohammedism. If you can’t see that, we can’t afford to have you as President in these Time Of Troubles.
July 28th, 2011 @ 12:16 pm
I like the one by Neil Cassady: “We are all Buddhas”
Well, me being raised on Marxism, I was taught, that we are all equal, but then imo Lenin was right when he said that the ‘formal equality’ is fraudulent, it creates the illusion of equality, but what we all know is, that behind this, in every other way, there is actually unequality.
Thomas Jefferson may have said “all (wo)men are created equal,” but nobody with a modicum of mayic awareness ever maintains they stay that way. Comrade Lenin was a pragmatic man who never confused Marxist idealism with practical politics — unfortunately, his successors forsook ideals entirely and the Soviet experiment became a typical (and typically corrupt) tyranny painted with a thin coat of Marxist rhetoric.
That’s who inspired Bush and Cheney to paint their tyranny with a thin coat of “Freedon and Democracy” rhetoric.
The true bolsheviks were the ones who went to fight in Spain in the thirties. After they became corrupt. The case is, that there is ALWAYS a new ‘aristocracy’ is at birth with a power change. And that was the start of corruption what killed the Marxist ideology. Russia jumped a system, went from feudalism straight to ‘socialism’. Plus, in communist regime, the new elite, the ruling class came from the illiterate proletars and they were just too vulgar and brutal to have the power to rule. Ide Amin and the warlords of the day in the African continent comes to my mind.
But, tyranny is even worst when in the hands of the ‘money elite’ imo.
Greedy bankers or greedy commissars, there’s not all the much difference — and even Marx admitted that capitalism was the only viable economic system at the time he was writing. What is required is a workable balance between labor and capital, balance that has been severely distorted by the cronyism and legalized bribery that infects countries where free enterprise is confused with amoral, ruthless, heartless avarice driven by mendacious commercialism.
But it is worst right here right now in the ‘richest’ country today imo.
Wallmart workers are riding on the back of the government, there is no ethical health care in place, education is in shambles. The balance between the labor and the capital is huge, the middle class is being wiped out.
I’m not a communist today, but at least your generation had a good educational system in place, free and great health care and the arts were not dictated by money, the jerry springer and the best seller effect, but was provided by well educated forums.
July 28th, 2011 @ 12:53 pm
This is what happens when you wall yourself off with a bunch of imperious sycophants. Death by consultitus.
July 28th, 2011 @ 12:54 pm
Doing politics is not synonymous with “being a quisling.”
July 28th, 2011 @ 1:34 pm
I forgot to mention: imperious *lying* sycophants.
July 28th, 2011 @ 2:56 pm
Cain making a hefty challenge to Romney. Not for nomination, but for title of most egregious flip-flopper.
July 28th, 2011 @ 4:03 pm
I hate to say this but after reading Stacy’s update and further ruminating on Bob Belvedere’s info, I’m starting to wonder if they got something on Cain. Whether its that or death by a dozen idiot consultants, Cain is obviously not ready for prime time. Since he’s gone over the edge and Michelle Bachmann has more or less jumped off of it head first, I’m back to Palin, maybe Perry. I like McCotter but he’s running for VP.
July 28th, 2011 @ 4:20 pm
“I understand you are in a state of terror.”
Good, you’re wising up then. The state of terror is called Mohammedanism. You are abetting it.
July 28th, 2011 @ 4:22 pm
So said Neville Chamberlain …
July 28th, 2011 @ 4:23 pm
Except are you reading the links posted here that the very people he was meeting with are linked to radical terrorism?
July 28th, 2011 @ 4:28 pm
I also don’t like the reasoning:
“As I expected, we discovered we have much more in common in our
values and virtues. In my own life as a black youth growing up in the
segregated South, I understand their frustration with stereotypes …”
Isn’t that the same comparison that homosexuals/lesbians use for their grievances? IOW, the “gay rights” crowd equating themselves to the civil rights movement?
Erm, no, they’re not.
So if Cain can use the comparison that Muslims are stereotyped like Blacks were, will he also be persuaded by the homosexual/lesbian argument?
