BREAKING: #OWS PROTESTERS IN OAKLAND CLASH WITH POLICE

Zombie at PJM has video, photos and expects further updates:

Chaos reigns on the streets of Oakland tonight as rioting has broken out when Occupy protesters tried to reclaim their camp from the police. . . .
After the Occupy Oakland encampment was torn down early Tuesday morning by police, the ousted protesters reconvened outside the Oakland Library on Tuesday afternoon and voted to attempt a re-occupation of the same plaza from which they had just been evicted. . . .
After an hours-long standoff at 14th and Broadway, interrupted by several confrontations and arrests, everything started to turn violent some time after 9:30pm.

The Oakland Tribune reports:

Occupy Oakland demonstrators clashed all over downtown Tuesday night with police who lobbed tear gas at least three times in futile attempts to fully disperse the more than 1,000 people who took to the streets after the early-morning raid of the movement’s encampment.
The rolling protest came about 12 hours after hundreds of police from throughout the Bay Area rousted about 300 people from the two-week old camp at Frank H. Ogawa Plaza. Tensions escalated after protesters vowed to return to the plaza.
“We had to deploy gas to stop people from throwing rocks and bottles at police,” said Interim Police Chief Howard Jordan, adding that he was unsure about what other crowd-control methods were used by outside police agencies.
There were unconfirmed reports that flash-bang grenades and wooden dowels were launched at protesters.

Stay tuned at PJM for further updates from Zombie.

UPDATE: The NY Times reports on the Oakland riot, including reports that some protesters sang “We Shall Overcome” — as if these mangy white hipsters are victims of injustice and the Oakland P.D. is commanded by Bull Connor.

What are the odds that news of this reaches the public w/o a disclaimer about this being instigated by a few bad apples that don’t represent the movement as a whole? 100% chance? (And, yeah, just imagine this happened at a Tea Party event–we’d still be hearing about it, decades after the fact.)

Heheheheee… It is like Stalin on Trotsky violence down there. Silly commies the government of both Oakland and Sacramento are as leftie as you are. They just will not tolerate a threat to their power.

Cartman: Hippies. They’re everywhere. They wanna save the earth, but all they do is smoke pot and smell bad.

Cartman: I hate hippies! I mean, the way they always talk about “protectin’ the earth” and then drive around in cars that get poor gas mileage and wear those stupid bracelets – I hate ’em! I wanna kick ’em in the nuts!

Its about time somebody showed some balls and reined these scumbag hipsters in. Knowing Oakland, its more a political reaction than actually a public health issue, but regardless, its good its being done, even if it is just because somebody in Oakland is on top of things enough to know its making Democrats look bad. Anytime you ask one of these douchbags or their supporters about something that’s happened, they always try to lay it off on the homeless, or mentally ill transients trying to get free food. It’s never them or never their fault. The whole world is supposed to revolve around these fucking scumbag hipsters and their fucking angst, and when the inevitable result happens, you’re supposed to suck it up and put up with these marked down bargain basement asshats and their antics.

Be sure to charge an appropriate retail price to balance supply and demand, and provide a sufficient profit margin to compensate for your time, risk, and being smart enough and quick enough to have the idea before me.

Given that scenes like this are fairly common in Oakland one would think the police there would be better at this they don’t seem to have enough of the right gear.
The guy in the Tatler video who is going to go to Oakland to arrest the police was priceless.
