Incredible 10-Year-Old Mexican Singer Rocks the World With Music Video

Posted on | November 25, 2011 | 50 Comments

Somebody sent me the video, which already has more than 5 million views, and I frankly couldn’t believe a 10-year-old could sing like this, but evidently it’s legit:

Angie Vazquez and her band, Los Vazquez Sounds, have people all over buzzing about their cover of Adele‘s ‘Rolling in the Deep’ — 1.16 million to be exact.
The Mexican trio posted their rendition of the hit song, and it has since become a viral sensation, boasting over 1 million views in less than a week. Ten-year-old Angie is joined by 15-year-old Abelardo on guitar, bass and piano, as well as 13-year-old Gustavo Vazquez on drums. Watch out, Jonas Brothers!

That was 1.16 million views as of three days ago, so apparently this has gone seriously viral since then. Ready for it? Watch:

UPDATE: Linked by Marfdrat, The Crawdad Hole and by Kathy Shaidle, who is worried about young Angie’s future. Welcome, Hot Air readers!

UPDATE II: El Otro McCain: Ahora disponible en español!

Let’s hear it Democrats, kids like this are a good reason we should be more lenient and open with our immigration policies, right? You know its coming, almost like you know there’s a kidnapping in this kid’s future at the hands of the very kinds of lowlife scum that come and go across our border as they pretty much please, shooting and killing any border agent in sight along the way.

There’s another kid about her age who has an incredible voice, but I can’t think of her name, but she was on America’s Got Talent. Jackie Schenko or something like that. Every now and then you see her album advertised on tv. She sings like an opera star, an adult one.

WOW!  Those kids are really good.  I wish them the best in what could well be a very successful career in music.

And only ten years old… Wow.  Just… wow.

This one is better.  At least the words are pronounced correctly. 🙂 This singer is 13.

    Talented kids. Nicely done.

Except those kids are not in your most fevered imagination typical of what would come over the “lenient and open” border. We need to tighten our immigration policies so that only immigrants with high skill (like those kids) get in.

Wonderful voice, but no matter how it sounds, coming from a ten year old it still rings hollow.

Yes, the Hispanic girl “sounds” nice, but she is mimicking the language without understanding the words.  No soul, just sound.

Given her age she does a decent job.. That being said, as a vocalist, she’s already developed some terribly bad habits such as singing from her throat and nasal passages. Tobe sure, she has natural talent. But, vocal training would take her a long way from mimicking the pop stars of the pst decade such as Brittany Spears who have relied more on marketing than talent. Debbie Gibson in the 80’s was way better than this young girl.

I’m kind of surprised by the critical response — remarks about her imigration status, remarks about her singing — when the only thought that inspired me to post this was, “Wow. She can sing.”

It’s required.  Think what I have to go through as a defender of good capitalist girl Rebecca Black.

The best of the current teenage singers, I think, is Jasmine Van der Bogaerde, who sings under the name “Birdy.”  Her first album came out this month.

Well, as a musician [retired], I can tell you that kid’s got it.

There’s nothing wrong artistically with singing via the throat.  Bowie did for a lot of years during a good chunk of his best creative period.  Physically it will probably cause her some problems in a decade or so, but she has time to work on it, just like Francis Albert did during his time with Tommy Dorsey.

I don’t know if she understands the words or not, but she understands the feeling behind the lyrics and music.  That’s really all that’s needed.  To cite Bowie again, his best version of Heroes in the half-German / half-English one, titled ‘Helden’ [which, by the way, is deliberately sung mostly from the throat].

It also appears that she has already a good, instinctual understanding of how to use the mouth to shape the sound.

    Damn good cover.

They did this video because they love music. His dad is a music producer but the kids don’t have any intention to enter the music bussiness now. They want to finish school first. They have received several invitations by mexican media and they are saying “no”. The only thing they are doing for TV is next December, The Teletón, a charity for disabled kids here in Mexico.

I am with you with the singing and with this…No need to talk about inmigration status. Se doesn’t live in the US, she and her family are mexicans, living in Mexicali,Baja California, MEXICO. They don’t have any intention to live in the US

I can’t believe how childish and immature some of you are. And you call yourselves adults…..Really, how does the way one talks, where they are from, or the color of skin make one better than another? We are all freaking human, and we all share the same freaking sky. It really IS THAT SIMPLE. Comment on the music, and singing. Quit turning it in to an entirely different topic. Like her singing, or don’t. And leave it at that.

She’s got a great voice, but she should sing in Spanish. She mangles English pretty badly. Then again, so do most native-born American singers.

For a kid she has a good voice, and it shows she has potential.  I hope she does get good training, because I would not like to know that a voice with as much potential as she has would be ruined by just imitating others instead of developing what she obviously has.  It does sound like a child singing, but it sounds like a child singing Very Well.  I’ve heard kids at my church sing that could curdle milk.

Every girl and her sister is doing this song and most sound really good.  I’m not a singer, but my guess is there’s something special about the structure of the song that makes it easy to mimic technically and enables the amateurs to sound fantastic.  I’m not trying to take anything away from her, she’s awesome.  God knows if I tried singing it windows would break and neighborhood dogs would never stop howling.  But aside from Adele’s original, I’ve seen about 4 different amateurs do this song and they all sound fantastic, which seems unusual.

Also considering the vocals on this video have been fine tuned, this is not her raw voice.  The video I saw a while back with the woman in the military doing this song was truly awesome. This one, not so much.

She may understand the definition, and perhaps the literal meaning, of the lyrics, but given her age there is no way her vocalizations are informed by any sense of personal experience.

  40. ThomasD
    November 26th, 2011 @ 12:59 pm

If her goal is a career in pop music then she has more than enough vocal skills right now, what she needs to develop is individual  personality and character.

Many, many of the most successful acts of the past forty years were marginal singers (some were even less) but they got by just fine because it is not merely a beautiful voice that  attracts an audience.

Singing someone else’s notes is quite easy, making your own music is damn hard.  Making a living off of it, in the age of youtube is even harder.

ALL of you who are saying she speaks bad English, I would LOVE to see you post a cover in Spanish and see how you sound! if you have nothing nice to say, than don’t say nothing at all!

These kids look like the come from an educated and well to do Mexican family not the kind that cross the border. Don’t get me wrong, I have met a lot illegal immigrants who are college graduates with lots to contribute to this country but are cleaning toilets looking to give a better life to their families. These kids with music knowledge and probably singing lessons don’t have the “need” to come here, actually they should stay there and represent their country around the world!!!

Funny how mostly the people who comment i bet cant even sing half the notes on this song.. And they still have the decency to judge this little girl who can actually sing.. Smh haters are patehtic its not going to get you nowhere , it will actually get this little girl somewhere 🙂 she sings sooo good i wish i could sing like her atleast get the pitches right lol
