‘Speedway Bomber’: Criminal terrorist Brett Kimberlin was convicted in 1981

FROM AN UNDISCLOSED LOCATION
Law enforcement officials have been made aware that convicted terrorist Brett Kimberlin appears to be engaged in an attempt to intimidate me into being silent about his sordid criminal history.

Appropriate precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of my family and others who might be endangered if Kimberlin resorts to violence to accomplish his malicious purposes. At the urging of concerned friends, we have vacated our former residence and I am now blogging from a secret location which Kimberlin will be unable to discover or reach. Nevertheless, we sincerely ask for intercessory prayer, that God will send angels to guard us in this grave crisis.

In fact, this crisis is an answer to prayer: My wife and I had been contemplating whether to leave Maryland, and had asked that God would give us a sign. Guess we got what we prayed for — unexpectedly!

Nevertheless, my sudden relocation — The Mother of All Road Trips, as it were — will involve large expenses.  We will have to rent a new house, pay people to pack up the belongings at our former residence, and move everything to the new location.

Remember that this is still a Shameless Capitalist Blog, and keep in mind The Five Most Important Words in the English Language . . .

HIT THE FREAKING TIP JAR!

THE KIMBERLIN FILES:

UPDATE: Working here at the Ray Kroc Memorial Journalism Center — free WiFi and $1 double cheeseburgers while I await my ride — I’ll try to catch up on some thanks to recent tip-jar hitters: Robin in Alexandria. Jeff in Walla Walla, Richard in Hollywood, James in Orlando, Victor in Virginia, Christopher in New Jersey, Mark in Spring Valley, Coley in Kentucky, John in Annapolis, Mr. E. in Alabama, Matthew in Solana Beach, Dianna in San Jose, Adam in Van Nuys and Bradley in Arizona.

UPDATE II (Smitty): Godspeed to Stacy and Instapundit and Darth Chipmunk. Those seeking something lighter might enjoy my Page & Plant Interview in Strolling Drone

UPDATE III (RSM): To people trying to guess my destination, good luck. Kimberlin loves to sue people to shut them up, but first he has to find the appropriate jurisdiction. Last time I checked, a one-way ticket to Vanuatu was $1,497 via Auckland. Just sayin’ . . .

A 93 asvab score is all kinds of awesome.

Ken is right.  Texas is fucking awesome.  Lots of people carry guns – worse state possible to try to start something.  CCW permit aside you don’t need one to buy a gun and keep it in the car.    They also have a hell of an anti-SLAPP provision that basically states that on top of the fees and costs, the court “shall” award the defendant damages “sufficient to deter the party who brought the legal action from bringing similar actions.” It’s not optional – the judge has to give some sort of punitive damage award – could be one way to lighten Kimberlin of his ill gotten gains.
Weather wise it gets a bit hot down here but great neighbors to also look out for you and fantastic BBQ and mexican food.  Come on down.

Right. A man with children at home is supposed to pretend a man who plants bombs is not a threat.

Your logic…does not apply to the human condition, I think.

The thought of a terrorist attempting to bully a fellow American makes my blood boil. There are extra bedrooms, plenty of food, free high speed internet, quick access to an international airport, and enough guns and ammo to last for days available at absolutely no cost to you in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Just let me know and it’s all yours.

No, I’m not impressed. Sounds overblown and more a way to stick out his hand with his tip jar. Pass the plate brother. So he might get sued, big deal. He titled his post as a challenge and I took it. What’s wrong with you people using every opportunity to push your religious beliefs. This is obviously no proof that prayer is answered which is the point of his article. He should pray that he doesn’t get sued, which would be more to the point. He’s the one who made it about evidence for the existence of god. People die every day and most don’t deserve it, so you have to have a screw loose to think god is personally interested in your legal troubles. Besides even if it turns out his entire family is killed the it was all just in God’s plan and for the better, so what does it matter what I think?

I wish you and your family God’s protection and safety.  Having lived in Virginia and considered living in Maryland.  I found the difference in those states’ view of my right to self-defense enlightening.  Virginia has a shall-issue concealed carry law and does not prohibit open carry.  Maryland, on the other hand… So if you don’t want to move that far, pick Virginia.  I’m now in North Carolina and I believe there is no state prohibition on open carry, but I believe the state doesn’t prohibit local governments and municipalities from regulating open carry so you might  consider NC.

Not for nothing, but my understanding of U.S law is that he can sue in any state in the union and the judgement would be binding. Also, if a plaintiff can demonstrate that a respondent is wilfully evading service, an increasing number of jurisdictions allow service by e-mail and even Facebook.

Of course, none of that speaks to violent threats, but the switch from “the safety of my family” to lawsuit talk is confusing and can lead reasonable people to call bullshit.

A few years ago I was hit with successive lawsuits, first state and then federal (RICO, no less) by a man I had crossed.  Both were tossed out of court and the plaintiff was informed in no uncertain terms by the federal judge that if he filed again he would be guilty of legal harassment.  But it cost my co-defendant and me right at a hundred thousand dollars to get clear of them.

No one who hasn’t been the target of something like this can possibly understand what it is like for the victim.  The stalking overwhelms your thoughts and even your life.  It’s the last thing that crosses your mind at night and the first thing that you think of in the morning.  You run the gamut of emotions from white-hot anger to total despair.  It changes you forever.

Stacy, I am so sorry you’re having to go through this.  Nobody should ever have to face this kind of harassment.  I’m hitting your Tip Jar but it’s just a pittance.

Please, everyone, help Stacy.  We were fortunate to have a friend establish a legal defense fund which defrayed about half our expenses.  I have yet to find the words to thank them.
