Aaron Walker SWATted?

Posted on | June 25, 2012 | 93 Comments

FROM AN UNDISCLOSED LOCATION
The escalating insanity has apparently reached new heights. Just when Aaron Walker achieved a court victory — this:

Readers will excuse the intensity of my reaction, but I simply cannot imagine that any criminal would be so stupidly overconfident to attempt such a thing, at a time when there is so much public attention on the subject. It boggles the mind.

UPDATE: Patterico reports:

It happened around 6 p.m. Eastern. I briefly talked with one of the police officers at the scene, who confirmed that someone had called saying he had shot his wife, and sent officers to Aaron’s address.
I just got off the phone with Aaron and he and his wife are a little shaken up but OK. The officers had machine guns but did not point them at Aaron. They were quickly able to determine it was a hoax.

More reaction at Twitchy. Memo to The Washington Post: This is now what they call “local news.” Get on it.

UPDATE II: Welcome, Instapundit readers! Perhaps now readers understand why I’ve spent the past five weeks at an Undisclosed Location.

Handing off the “night desk” to Bob Belvedere for further updates.

UPDATE III: Cops with M-4 automatics knocked on the door. Aaron said to the cops, “Let me guess, someone claimed I shot my wife…?

No it’s not. Insanity is not a moral choice. Evil is. If you say evil is merely a disorder of the mind, then there is no such thing as morality or even free will.

Now I feel terrible about complaining about FMJRA last week.

    Aaron Walker (via Protein Wisdom):
“I will say emphatically that I do not believe Brett Kimberlin made any of the prior SWATting calls himself and I would be very surprised if he made this one.
But on the other hand, Occam’s razor tells us this was done in retaliation against me for having won today in court against Kimberlin. Which doesn’t mean Kimberlin has anything to do with it, but it suggests a motive for whoever did.”

FYI – When clicking on this site today I received a popup that said  “To view this page, you must log in to area tracking.sitemeter.c*m on ‘tracking.sitemeter.com.80. Your password will be sent unencrypted.”   It appeared again when entering comments.A friend reported seeing the same thing when visiting Patterico today.

I’ve read that’s a phishing attempt through some sort of hijacking at Sitemeter.  Close the pop up without entering anything — it’s what I’ve been doing.

I have been getting that on several sites, not all of them heavily Kimberlin-related.  Of course I didn’t enter anything.

You’re probably right, but Sitemeter picked a hell of a time to get their head lodged in their gastrointestinal tract.

I dunno… I would just think with all these stupid swattings, someone would have gotten some photos.  Not that I’m not taking Aaron at his word, but did he get any photos or are we just to rend our garments and say, “Oh no! He was Swatted” with no proof thereof?  Is there a copy of the police report?  This is basic “journalism” stuff I’m talking about here.

I doubt that WaPo will take your advice about covering a local crime story, although I seem to remember that when they covered a burglary about 40 years ago the story wound up being important.

The sad thing is that when I sent my local police all of these updates, their reaction was the same as when they were “working the case” SILENCE, NEVER AVAILABLE- “no reply via email or phone”
Local papers did not respond to my emails, police reports sent to them.
My best wishes to Aaron. Nobody should have to live with this nonsense.

First it was childish whining, now it’s petulant complaining (tinged with sarcasm) that people didn’t grab cameras when police officers armed with M4 carbines are pounding on the door.

That’s the caring left for you, always finding a reason to behave like a jerk.

How in the hell have you survived this long?  That has got to be one of the dumbest statements I’ve ever seen anyone make, and I’ve been following the actions of Leftards for close to two decades.

Can you breathe and type at the same time, or do you peck out a few words and then pause to oxygenate what passes for your brain?

    Stacy,
I have no access to Mr. Worthings comments to post my own due to the format he has set up for it. I can read his posts and comments section though. I no Twitter account. Tried to get one but it won’t go through. Is it possible for you to get a message to him that I have shared his post from last night on my FaceBook account wall page with a message posted in the comments section. Take care, stay safe and hope and pray you, Mr. Worthing and all writing about these events prevail victorious in the end.

Just paying cash would be enough in the overwhelming majority of cases. Even with video surveilance the chances are extremely slim you would catch them based on the sale alone. A pay phone would be just as good unless there was video surveilance of the pay phone that could be related to the time the call was made. There are few pay phones covered by such.

I use Tracfone because I don’t have enough cell usage to justify a regular plan (I’m paying far less than $20/month) and, while it’s been awhile since I activated my phone, I think Tracfone requires a name to activate the phone these days. Tracfone has had too many of its phones used in criminal activities and they wanted to limit that as much as they could lest the Federales came after them.
