Obama Scrooges Christmas

Posted on | December 25, 2012 | 5 Comments

Re-elect Obama, the tax-hiking enemy of a free-market economy — hey, that’s got to be great for the holiday retail season, right?

Confidence among U.S. consumers dipped to its lowest point in December since July amid rising economic worries, according to a monthly index released Friday.
Marshal Cohen, chief research analyst at NPD Inc., a market research firm with a network of analysts at shopping centers nationwide, estimates customer traffic over the weekend was in line with the same time a year ago, but that shoppers seem to be spending less. . . .
All that spelled glum news for retailers, which can make up to 40 percent of annual sales during November and December.

Via Erika Johnsen at Hot Air, who adds:

The pervasive worries over the fiscal-cliff, combined with continued high unemployment and slackening economic indicators across all sectors, have punctured even Americans’ reliably robust Christmas spirit. But hey, I’m sure it’s all those dang Republicans’ fault, right?

I don’t know how it is in the rest of the country, but what I noticed in my travels around South Florida is that people were out spending money.

In our business, Christmas Trees, we sold at least 10,000 more trees this year than we did last year. On Black Friday, we had the best sell-through in the country, eclipsing last years mark by 11%.

That’s not to say that other retail sales were as good, just what I observed in the market we were in. And my observations were confined to Home Depot stores where we sell our trees. I didn’t have much time to shop around and observe other retail outlets except for a couple of forays to Wal Mart and they were crowded every time I had the misfortune to go there.

Lotta vacancies on the way up to Montererey for Xmas season. And no trouble making reservations, either. Avoiding falling boulders, another story.

Walmart was crowded here on the 24th, but I don’t doubt there are areas where sales are down. Things like Trees people will buy even if they can’t put much under them.

That Bush fella is might powerful to be affecting the economy almost 4 years out of office. I’m sure it’s all his fault ifn you ask them Dimocrat types.

Somebody next door got guns for Christmas. We heard (and I saw) them test-firing in the backyard (multi-acre homesite) at 9:00 yesterday morning.
