Why John Avlon Hates Sarah Palin

Prominent among the clueless douchebags who thought Rudy Giuliani could be elected president, John Avlon by 2009  was faced with a problem: How could a pro-Obama liberal Republican hireling find work in a political environment where the Tea Party uprising demonstrated that the Charlie Crist collaborationist Vichy wing of the GOP  had no natural grassroots constituency?

So in 2010, Avlon co-founded the “No Labels” movement, funded by liberal donors and assigned the mission of helping Democrats destroy the Tea Party. And if Avlon’s constant smearing of conservatives as “winguts” damaged the Republican Party, so what? Nobody involved in “No Labels” gives a damn.

OK, so the other day Sarah Palin’s PAC came out with an awesome new video declaring Mama Grizzly’s intent to continue being a major force in Republican Party politics, and naturally John Avlon decided this was a fine occasion to defecate all over Palin’s name.

Would it be possible to do a point-by-point rebuttal of Avlon’s ignorant arguments? Yes. Is it necessary to do so? No.

Once you understand the motives of people like that, their methods are mere details. If Avlon ever wrote anything that hurt Democrats, the Daily Beast wouldn’t publish it.

UPDATE: Noticing some chatter in the comments, let me clarify that I am not “anti-Giuliani,” but anybody who thought Rudy was going to be elected president just doesn’t understand how modern politics works. I mean, never mind the primary campaign “path to the nomination,” or even questions of ideology or issues. Just ask yourself: Who was the last bald guy elected president?

  9. Dear John: Compare and contrast SarahPAC’s spending in 2012, and that of the Romney/Ryan campaign and the greater GOP/conservative movement. Also compare and contrast the results. You were saying?

  21. No it bothers me there are so many IGNORANT people who don’t understand how PACs work By LAW a PAC can only give $5,000 per candidate per election.

    Here’s what is important. In 2012 Palin spent relatively few dollars and had a 75% success rate in elections. Karl Rove and his Crossroads PAC spent $300 MILLION for a 1% success rate.

    Tell me again why I should be worried about SarahPAC?

  22. Nope. Not at all, because I know where the rest of the money goes (it’s all, like, PUBLICLY DOCUMENTED IN FEC REPORTS).
    See, because of the incumbency protection racket known as the FEC, Palin can only give a max-out of 5K per candidate to each individual. There aren’t that many Reagan Conservatives out there worth a warm bucket of spit.
    Further, Palin has one of the best direct mail operations in the business. Half of D.C. would kill for her mailing list, and she ain’t selling. Plus, her Treasurer, Tim Crawford, is worth every dime she pays him.
    The competitors are just bitching. I wouldn’t expect you to get that. However, see below for one competitor (Karl Rove at American Crossroads) lousy success rate versus Palin’s: < 1% for a 300 million dollar investment of GOP money versus Palin's measly 5 million dollars between 2010 and 2012 for a success rate of 75%.
    Now quit your whining.
