Why John Avlon Hates Sarah Palin

Posted on | March 29, 2013 | 75 Comments

Prominent among the clueless douchebags who thought Rudy Giuliani could be elected president, John Avlon by 2009  was faced with a problem: How could a pro-Obama liberal Republican hireling find work in a political environment where the Tea Party uprising demonstrated that the Charlie Crist collaborationist Vichy wing of the GOP  had no natural grassroots constituency?

So in 2010, Avlon co-founded the “No Labels” movement, funded by liberal donors and assigned the mission of helping Democrats destroy the Tea Party. And if Avlon’s constant smearing of conservatives as “winguts” damaged the Republican Party, so what? Nobody involved in “No Labels” gives a damn.

OK, so the other day Sarah Palin’s PAC came out with an awesome new video declaring Mama Grizzly’s intent to continue being a major force in Republican Party politics, and naturally John Avlon decided this was a fine occasion to defecate all over Palin’s name.

Would it be possible to do a point-by-point rebuttal of Avlon’s ignorant arguments? Yes. Is it necessary to do so? No.

Once you understand the motives of people like that, their methods are mere details. If Avlon ever wrote anything that hurt Democrats, the Daily Beast wouldn’t publish it.

UPDATE: Noticing some chatter in the comments, let me clarify that I am not “anti-Giuliani,” but anybody who thought Rudy was going to be elected president just doesn’t understand how modern politics works. I mean, never mind the primary campaign “path to the nomination,” or even questions of ideology or issues. Just ask yourself: Who was the last bald guy elected president?

There’s this thing called “TV.” Maybe you heard of it . . .

Enh, the two candidates I supported in 2008 were Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson. I favored Rudy just marginally over Fred because I figured he had a better chance.

Consider that the other main options were John McCain, Mitt Romney, and Mike Huckabee.

To elaborate a bit: I knew going into 2008 that Rudy was a moderate Republican. But he had one thing in common with Sarah Palin: they both fight. It’s been so long since we’ve had a fighter for our presidential nominee that I’d rather have a moderate that fights than a conservative that doesn’t.

If Sarah Palin is so IRRELEVANT, the “clueless douchebag”, John Avlon, wouldn’t even remotely be THINKING of her, much less taking time to write a hit piece on her.
OBVIOUSLY, she is RELEVANT and is a KINGMAKER. We saw the envidence in the 2010 midterms….conservative candidates winning and overwhelming the Left.
“2014 – Loaded For Bear” is Sarah Palin’s new slogan. Nothin’ YOU or your ilk write will matter, Avlon. You’re just a blathering idiot like all the rest.

That reminds me, what ever happened 2 Santorum’s PAC? I noticed that he endorsed Bostic in SC, but otherwise nada!

Why isn’t Rick Santorum denounced as a “grifter”?

Too bad John Batchellor associates himself so closely with this guy Avalon aka Mrs. Margaret Hoover aka smarmy Manhattan jerkoff. Batchellor’s show used to be great, now it’s unlistenable.

I have another take: John Avlon is fronting for Team Bush and the satellite of consultancies that fleeced Romney for everything he had.

Look, if this piece had come out in NRO or The Standard, we’d easily be able to tell who was fronting Avlon, but it’s in the Beast, so it’s harder to tell who put him up to it and gave him his talking points. But look at the piece: the charge that leaps out is one that accuses Palin of not being a “fiscal conservative”!

Remember when the Bushies ran that campaign ad of Bob Dole having no footprints in New Hampshire in 1988? Pissed Dole off a blue streak and helped the Old Man Bush win that primary! It’s what these people do. They accuse Reaganites of not being “conservative” so their RINO candidate can win.
That’s what’s going on here. They also don’t like the fact that Palin (and Cruz, btw) is taking dead aim at the criminal class of consultants who looted the rank and file since Bush the Younger left town.
Karl and Co are behind this. I will bet my hat on it.

  17. DaveO
    March 29th, 2013 @ 6:56 pm

Republican consultants are engineering the losses in order to loot the campaign treasuries; and pushing candidates who will extremely grateful and push more money in the wallets. A few years back, the NRCC accounts were emptied by a Republican consultant.
I wonder just how lucrative being the business of creating losers is?

There hasn’t been an honest consultant since Reagan left town. I think Stacy basically told everyone about the web of deceit surrounding ORCA and the closed environmental system that made up the Romney Consulting Web.
    No outside feedback=losing campaign.
Dead men walking, yes, but they are all very wealthy dead men walking. And you’ll notice that the Democrats do nothing to disrupt this arrangement because they like Republican Consultants who are satisfied with coming in second as long as they make money.
Palin is screwing that entire arrangement up .

Thats an interesting observation and quite correct, IMO. Reagan never had a ‘political guru’ like Rove or Lee Atwater. Obviously, he didn’t need one (and fired John Sears when he tried to assume that role). He knew his own mind and more importantly was able to connect with American people on a visceral level. I fear we shall never see his like again.

Giuliani was the guy that brought Sarah and her daughter Willow to Yankee Stadium when Letterman made the tasteless joke about Willow. Giuliani is a good man, who was a solid leader after 911. He’s just not electable for the Presidency. Too liberal.

Sure did. The most despicable smear job I have ever witnessed. The sad thing is, she is too damaged, unfairly of course, for the Presidency at this time. Unless the stay-at-homes came out in record numbers. She needs to jump back into either the Senate or the House.

there are way too many so-called conservative pundits who love to get a bash in against Palin. they think, i suppose, that it somehow gives them clout, or makes them seem ‘normal’. it only rankles us here in flyover country, and ensures that we will never listen to their opinions on anything important to us.
