Wow! @AmandaMarcotte Really Hates Babies: ‘Time-Sucking Monsters’

Posted on | March 18, 2014 | 84 Comments

How long have we followed the lunatic career of Amanda Marcotte? At least since 2007, when her anti-Christian ravings got her kicked off the doomed presidential campaign of John Edwards. (Mary Katharine Ham: “Vote for Edwards, Godbag Christofascists!“)

Marcotte’s bloodthirsty zeal for baby-killing is notorious, and so we aren’t really surprised when she makes statements like this:

“I don’t particularly like babies. They are loud and smelly
and, above all other things, demanding. No matter how
much free day care you throw at women, babies are still
time-sucking monsters with their constant neediness.”

Yeah, today I didn’t get much blogging done because I babysat my grandson while my daughter-in-law went to her college classes, but the phrase “time-sucking monster” never occurred to me while I was feeding him, changing him and rocking him to sleep.

So why does Amanda Marcotte hate babies so much? Because she is supremely and shamelessly selfish:

No matter how flexible you make my work schedule, my entire life would be overturned by a baby. I like  my life how it is, with my ability to do what I want when I want without having to arrange for a babysitter. I like being able to watch True Detective right now and not wait until baby is in bed. I like sex in any room of the house I please. I don’t want a baby. I’ve heard your pro-baby arguments. Glad those work for you, but they are unconvincing to me. Nothing will make me want a baby. . . .
I like not having a giant growth protruding out of my stomach. I hate hospitals and like not having stretch marks. . . .
This is why, if my birth control fails, I am totally having an abortion. Given the choice between living my life how I please and having my body within my control and the fate of a lentil-sized, brainless embryo that has half a chance of dying on its own anyway, I choose me.

Even the staunchest pro-lifer must consider she makes a point: It’s probably best that such hatefully selfish people not reproduce.

Miss Marcotte has never been shy or reserved in her writing, and it was her writing style which has led to her being able to write for money. She is both (somewhat) famous and (moderately) successful due to her opinions and the way she expresses them, so there is clearly an audience for what she says.

Which is amazing considering how much time they spend naval gazing.

Perhaps for all her ranting on the necessity of abortion she realized one of the dozens upon dozens of other birth control methods for women were in her interest.

Of course she may stop it just to “Experience” an abortion firsthand, that goblin.

If she truly feels this way, then why on earth hasn’t she gotten her tubes tied?

I know of some OB/GYNs who won’t sterilize before the age of 30 unless the person in question already has kids (and it’s not uncommon to run across people online who actually believe that tying one’s tubes is ILLEGAL) but she’s way, way past that point. If someone hates kids this much, they don’t have much of an excuse for NOT doing this. Unless they want the opportunity of a future abortion as a bragging point before everything dries up on its own.

    It’s classic over-compensation.

Wymyn like Mandy are so desperate to reassure themselves that all of their “choices” have been correct that they have to denigrate not only all alternatives to their own path, but also everyone who has chosen those alternatives.

You see this phenomenon often in childless females approaching the end of their child-bearing years (like Mandy) and also among atheists (like Mandy) who feel compelled to attack religions and religious people, particularly Christianity and Christians, with a viciousness usually only seen in the criminally insane (like Mandy).

…and that someone wiped her butt, aspirated her nose, spoon-fed her, and changed her diapers for years on end.

It doesn’t obligate her to procreate, but it does obligate her to exercise a bit of humility when talking about those who are the same as she once was.

I can’t decide if Ms. Marcotte is really as damaged as she sounds or if she’s simply trying to get a rise out of conservatives. Her rhetoric is so over the top, it’s hard to believe she’s really as angry at the world as she sounds. But maybe she is, how would I know? Either way, she clearly does not understand the nature of parenthood. She says she is selfish and while she is correct on that point, her implication that having kids is, by definition, selfless or self-sacrificing, is evidence of her ignorance. As parents of two children, my wife and I can say without hesitation that we feel we’ve gotten the better end of the bargain. Sure, our kids get our love, nurturing, food, shelter, clothing, education, etc. — but we have received so much more from them. The joy and love our kids have shown us far outweighs any sacrifice we’ve made, whether measured in time, money, worry, fatigue, or anything else. Ms. Marcotte says the “pro-baby” argument is “unconvincing” to her. While that’s perhaps unfortunate and a little sad, I think we can all breathe a sigh of relief knowing that this particular woman will likely never reproduce.

Quite so. When I listen or read similar diatribes, I often wonder whether the speaker/author is arguing with himself/herself, given that there are really very, very few people who care about the speaker/author’s personal choices.

The over compensation Adjoran points out is in operation. People like her have to continually reconvince themselves they have done what is best. It never works because she is going against human nature, so the cycle continually repeats.

I actually feel sorry for Ms. Marcotte and hope she finds grace. She seems profoundly unhappy. I of course hate the vileness she spouts, it is evil, but I doubt she persuades many with it (she is preaching to a very twisted choir, so to speak) and I suspect there are things in her own past to explain this.

I do not mean this in a hypocritical or sardonic way, I truly pray for her. I want her to be happy and reconciled with God.

Amanda is damaged goods. Yes grace and salvation are possible for anyone with God’s blessing. We are all sinners. We have all stumbled. We all need forgiveness and redemption. God wants to be reconciled to Ms. Marcotte. None of us should judge too harshly lest we be judged.

There was a Bloggingheads she did with Daniel Foster, capon of National Review in which she seemed vaguely normal under the discipline of having to interact with a human being in real time. It’s a reasonable assumption some of her performance is, if not self-conscious, specific to the means of communication.

I was in a discussion like this when chimed in a woman who identified herself as a resident of the town in West Texas where Marcotte grew up and the mother of a best bud of one of Marcotte’s high school flames. She was by her account acquainted with Marcotte ca. 1994 and offered some anecdotes to attempt to explain her (one involving an elaborate Halloween costume). Her description of Amanda Marcotte at age 17 or 18 – of an incensed young woman who thought those in the social matrix in which she lived were beneath her – rang quite true.

Marcotte landed at the University of Texas at Austin (Austin being its own place unlike others in Texas) and then to a staff job at same. (I believe I have the institutions she studied at and worked at right). She took up blogging on her own and then at Pandagon and eventually shipped out to New York and f/t commentary.

Jack Newfield once said of a New York union boss/power-broker that all he left behind him was a history of compromises and a bunch of city jobs. You could say that of Marcotte. She has no technae worth having. She has no family. All she’s got is some years behind her as a petty higher ed apparatchik and a large mass of rude commentaries. She could have been better than that, but to do that she would have had to been the sort who could appreciate her surroundings.

IIRC she is from Alpine, TX, a rather quaint town north of Big Bend. I’ve been there several times on my way to the national park. I recommend La Casita if it’s still there for excellent enchiladas.

Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. James 4:6

God would like Marcote to be reconciled to Him, but at present Marcotte is proud. It is not a comfortable fact, but if Marcotte does not get past herself, she will hear Christ say “Depart….”

Personally, I think a lot of her shtick has to do with the fact that she realizes how fundamentally unattractive she is. If she wasn’t such a monster, one could get past what she looks like.

    She’ll have none of that.

With respect to “judging too harshly,” I would note that only God judges persons. But we are required to judge actions in order to be able to discern the will of God in our lives. It is called discernment and we have to be able to call things what they are. How else do we teach our children how to behave? How else do we direct them to the path they should travel in life?

I am not defending Marcotte words and deeds. They are indefensible. I just feel sorry she is such a miserable wretch. I hope she comes around.

At least I found Christopher Hitchens personably likable and he was a damn good writer. Marcotte does not even have that going for her, she is just a bitter bitter person.

She calls pro-lifers liars, but in reality many the dishonesties of the pro-abortion position are there on display: calling themselves “pro-choice” to avoid the reality of what they are supporting, redefining philosophical concepts of “life”, “humanity”, and “killing” just because it suits their argument, shouting “patriarchy” or “misogyny” when someone disagrees, claiming that refusing abortion equates to “forcing” someone to let their body be “used as an incubator”, saying that the only person involved is the mother, and the only moral question is whether she is being given enough choice for free by society..

The purest intellectual dishonesty you will ever see
