Alyssa Funke, R.I.P.

She was a straight-A student and then she decided it would be smart to get an F on camera, so to speak:

A 19-year-old college student committed suicide just two weeks after making her first pornographic video.
Alyssa Funke, who starred in her first porn film earlier his year for a website called CastingCouch-X, used a shotgun to kill herself on April 16.
The teen, who adopted the stage name “Stella Ann,” was a straight-A student at the University of Wisconsin at River Falls. She told the pornographers, “I want to be a major in biology, minor in chemistry, and I want to be an anesthesiologist.”
It is widely thought she killed herself after former classmates at her high school in Stillwater, Minnesota, taunted her through Twitter and Facebook. Police say their investigation, which is still ongoing, has not yet found any criminal harassment.
Funke’s parents say that she suffered from periodic depression. Local media report that the young lady’s father has a record for swindling and theft, and her mother dealt drugs with a boyfriend. Funke’s mother also neglected the family’s younger siblings. Eventually, Funke moved in with her grandmother as a young teenager, though she still struggled with money.
Former pornstars told LifeSiteNews that troubled childhoods and deep depression — before or after a shoot — is not out of the ordinary in that industry.
Madyson Marquette, whose porn film name was Fayth Deluca, told LifeSiteNews that “after shooting porn, it seemed as if all the girls were depressed, including myself. We would shoot a scene and immediately after we would go do something to where we wouldn’t have to think about what we had just done, whether that was getting so drunk we just blacked out, some type of drug like Xanax, cocaine, or ecstasy.”

The mainstream media are taking the angle that Alyssa was a victim of “cyberbullying,” rather than a victim of the porn industry, but hello? It’s 2014 and it’s time for people to wake the hell up: If you do porn, it’s going to be on the Internet, and if it’s on the Internet, everybody’s going to see it. There is no way you can have a “secret” porn career in the Internet age, so if you’re going to do porn, just get used to the idea that your high school friends (and your high school enemies) are going to find out about it. Your parents, your teachers, your brothers and sisters, your aunts and uncles, grandma and grandpa — everybody you know is going to see what you do, got it?

If that doesn’t bother you, OK. But if you don’t think you can handle the reaction, maybe you shouldn’t be doing porn.

Of course, America’s Feminist Teen Porn Princess, Miriam Weeks (a/k/a “Belle Knox”) disavows any responsibility:

I have read the criticism that because I have said I feel “empowered” by porn that I am somehow encouraging other young women to go down this same path. Absolutely not. . . .
I do not think pornography caused your death. But I think society’s reaction to pornography did.
It’s time that we end slut shaming and treat sex workers with respect and tolerance. How many more people need to die before we realize that the hatred needs to end?

Right. Let’s blame “society” and give us a Women’s Studies lecture about the need to have “respect and tolerance” for whores. But you cannot wish away the shame of what is, objectively, shameful. And feminist lectures can’t raise a dead girl from the grave.

I believe she actually *broadcast* her star turn for the world to know about, so this isn’t even a question of having a secret double-life, as it were, because, up until people had a negative reaction to it, she was quite proud of frolicking around on-screen for the delectation of various and sundry.

(And I’m sure we would never be so judgmental as to note her wonderful, modern, upbringing by two grade AAA parents, because that never has any impact at all on how the child turns out–serial criminality is just another ‘lifestyle choice’ for modern Americans to celebrate, after all.)

Celebrating the “empowering” nature of serial criminality makes just as much sense as celebrating the “empowering” nature of porn.

I’m really sad for this girl. And no, having crappy parents isn’t an excuse either. But what do you do when you’ve got crappy parents and the whole world is telling you lies about what you do to get over that? Self respect is no small thing, and it’s not gained by debasing and giving away what ought to be precious.

The loops of logic that one must go through to lay the blame anywhere EXCEPT the choices this poor soul made. She was smart. She had ambition. She could have made a difference in peoples lives in the living world.

That feminists are now embracing women in porn is idiotic. It’s obvious that they are only doing this so that they can remain in an adversarial role against conservatives proving that it’s impossible to find common ground with the left.

These women aren’t paid for sex they’re paid to acquiesce. Miriam Weeks surrendered her soul for fame. Which explains why such a bright woman is blind to the harm of pornography. Feminists scream about rape culture and then embrace porn? Weeks can’t allow herself to see the harmful effects of pornography on women, she sold out.

The really fucked up thing about Ms. Weeks situation is that she filmed a scene of what was basically misogynist fantasy porn – she is choked, spat on, and verbally degraded, including being made fun of for having cutting scars and basically ‘fat-shamed’ over it – yet at the same time she sets herself as some kind of women’s rights advocate and goes on about how men need to be taught not to rape, etc. She basically helps create the monsters she loathes with that kind of work.

The problem isn’t the relatively few women like Miss Funke or Miss Weeks, who go into the porn industry for real, but the literally millions of young women who let their boyfriends take pictures of videos of them during sex, and then those pictures or videos somehow wind up on “amateur” or “girlfriend revenge” sites on the internet.

How many women out there are going to make it through college, work hard and land that good, first-level management or professional job, and then, seven months later, have it all come crashing down when someone at work finds the pictures of her with her ex-boyfriend’s dick in her mouth? Her ability to command respect and do her job will be shot, for doing what we know that 98.7% of all heterosexual women do, but this time having it on the internet for everybody to see.

“And feminist lectures can’t raise a dead girl from the grave.”

Why would they wish to? She’s more useful to them either as a paid whore, or dead as a result of being a paid whore. Either way, she’s yet another in the endless line of victims of men’s depredations and that’s all that counts. For feminists, she never existed as an individual person; all women are just as much symbols in their patho-ideology as all men are.

In stories such as these, we see how philosophically bereft the Left really is. Its ethic is based upon nothing more than instant gratification of any whim which pops into their heads. It is only after the fact, when the fruits of its ethic become apparent, that the Left constructs some elaborate nexus of causation to blame those who espouse codes of behavior fashioned over centuries which stood Mankind in good stead. How else to we explain the Left’s attempted rationalizations of pornographic empowerment versus “slut-shaming” versus “rape culture” versus god knows what? The only consistency amid the obvious inconsistency is the desire to do what they want, when they want and then claim the status of victim when the inevitable consequences become manifest.

    Snore….

Porn in one form or another has been around about as long as civilization, and that’s because human beings are not only endlessly curious about sex, but they also enjoy watching other people have it.

Second, it’s not some cabal of evil leftist academics, and feminists that have created the glut of pornography we now see, it’s the laws of supply and demand, and new technologies which are created for wants and needs of the consumer. In short it’s the free market, consumer capitalist system, free of government intervention that is responsible for pornography. In a decade or so when pot is finally legalized and most people are smoking it, it will also be the free market, and an absence of government imposing it’s morality on the population that will be responsible for it’s success.

  32. Snore
    May 26th, 2014 @ 12:56 pm

2/2:And in terms of what creates a demand for “instant gratification” I would say it’s advertising which promises it in every ad they run. Ironically it’s advertising, and the consumer capitalist system which the left criticizes but you claim that it’s greatest successes are it’s responsibility?

  33. RKae
    May 26th, 2014 @ 1:00 pm

They refuse to believe that all civilization is based on restraint. The difference between monogamous marriage and an orgy is the same as the difference between due process and a lynch mob.

  34. Snore
    May 26th, 2014 @ 1:03 pm

I think it’s Freud(or maybe Norman O. Brown paraphrasing Freud)who said civilization is based on repression. What man really wants to do is play.

  35. Snore
    May 26th, 2014 @ 1:07 pm

It’s technology and consumerism, especially the former though, that are creating a society that’s all about leisure, and play. This is the future. The Calvinist/Protestant work ethic, and morality had it’s time, but that time will soon be over.

  36. RS
    May 26th, 2014 @ 2:25 pm

Spoken as one who chooses to remain willfully blind to the consequences of endless “play.” It is the absence of inner restraint which leads to outward repression.

Further, you ignored the substance of my comment, i.e. the philosophical inconsistency of the Leftist worldview, merely offer up Libertine bromides, while proving my point: Advertising, “consumerism” or capitalism are causes of anything. It is the failure of individual humans.

  37. RS
    May 26th, 2014 @ 2:31 pm
