    Hey, wombat et al-

I’m surprised you didn’t include mention of VA Delegate Joe Morrissey (D-Henrico). Of course, you would have had to look on page A-5 of the WaPo…

I would have had to read the WaPo first. Maybe I should just put Newsbusters on the list of blogs.

I agree with Megan McArdle, and then some. It is true that “no” is a good word to get comfortable with, and that the “euphemism treadmill” would defeat the purpose behind a substitute. A further point that she did not address is that “red” is currently useful as code for “no” and “stop” in the kind of games where those words are meant to be disobeyed, and it would be ruined for that purpose if it became a mere synonym.

It is important to know how to read between the lines. The lack of mention of the number of girls killed, and only mention of an adult female teacher, virtually guarantees that all of the slain students at the Pakistani army school were boys. It’s hard for me to comprehend this behavioral tic of our reporters. Perhaps they think that we would care less about the victims (and therefore the story) if we knew they were male?

ETA: It just doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t cost anything to throw in “boys” as a synonym for “students” somewhere in an article like that, or like the articles on the (male) “students” butchered by Boko Haram. The institutional misandry of our press is aggressive and pervasive.

I think the time has come for a renewal of the Crusades. I totally support peace, and there is nothing more peaceful than a pyramid of Muslim skulls,

I suspect the omission is so that half-bright journalists can link this atrocity to the story of Malala Yousafzed.

But couldn’t they do that by talking about schools just for boys? They would have to ignore the price of future disposability to make it seem like a privilege, but that seems easier than covering up something as fundamental as the sex of the victims.

    It just doesn’t make sense.

Seems to me they had that guy convicted of something years ago, I think he was a Commonwealth’s Attorney or assistant at some point. Why anyone would vote for the moron is a puzzle.
