Doxed Lives Matter

Posted on | December 26, 2015 | 32 Comments

Alonda Cano (@People4Alondra) says her critics are racist.

The tactic of “doxing” — publishing someone’s home address and other personal information on the Internet in order to expose them to harassment — was made notorious by hackers associated with the “Anonymous” conspiracy. Vox Day explains how “social justice warriors” (SJWs) use these scorched-earth tactics:

The fact is that SJWs are out to disqualify, discredit, and disemploy everyone who does not share their dedication to social justice ideals. . . . Cross them, even inadvertently, and they will attempt to destroy you, your career, and your family.

A Democrat in Minnesota has adopted this attitude:

A Minneapolis City Council member is drawing criticism for what some see as an effort to publicly shame constituents who objected to her involvement in Wednesday’s Black Lives Matter rally at the Mall of America and the airport.
Council Member Alondra Cano, who represents the Ninth Ward, has been accused of “doxing” — posting personal information about people who criticized her for supporting the Black Lives Matter events — on Twitter.
Stephen Dent, who said he had previously contributed to Cano’s campaign, wrote to her and told Cano she was unfit to serve on the council by “closing private property” and “supporting illegal actions.”
Cano then tweeted Dent’s email address and phone number to her roughly 2,000 followers.
“What she did to me and others put a huge chill on our democratic society,” Dent said in a phone interview early Thursday. “It has broken my trust with public officials in the city of Minneapolis.” . . .
Dent said that as a 62 year old gay man he understands discrimination and is sympathetic to the aims of Black Lives Matter but does not believe Cano should have been participating in the protests.
As for posting his cell phone and email address, “I understand the law allows her to do this. But what she did was unethical,” said Dent, who said he is an organizational psychologist and author. He said he has filed an ethics complaint with the city.

But this is typical progressive behavior, there is no such thing as a difference of opinion..that is seen as harassment they want slavish agreement.

I say fight fire with fire. Publish her address and phone numbers.

Cano did more than just post information about her constituents online. She accused them of racism. Also, as a government employee, she should not be encouraging the anarchy that happened on Christmas Eve at the MOA and airport by BLM. Her behavior as an elected official is despicable.

Let us stipulate a) the nefarious motives on the part of Councilwoman Cano’s part and b) “dirty pool” nature of her conduct.

That said, we need to realize that letters to public entities are, absent a specific exception, public records available for inspection. In my jurisdiction, our open records law is biased toward disclosure for the simple reason that no matter how mundane the public entity’s charge, e.g. sewer service, water service, one-horse town, etc., the elected officials invariably seek to conceal things from the public. I’ve represented public entities for almost thirty years and have had numerous fights with officials (including being discharged) because I advised releasing documents when there was no statutory exception. In my state, there would be no exception to releasing critical messages, letters. etc.

There is no question that Ms. Cano is a petty tyrant. The remedy is not closing records, however, because we don’t want petty tyrants to have that ability either. Rather, the remedy is removing Ms. Cano from office, either at the ballot box or by impeachment for breaching her oath of office to faithfully execute the laws of the entity to which she stood for election.

I wonder if the victim in this case would have a tort given the intention of the doxing was to expose the man to harassment.

As an elected official, that information is probably already published. When I ran for municipal office years ago in Alaska my address and phone number were public record as soon as I filed the papers.

I say leave the progressives at each other. The “victim” voted for her despite her history of radical activity, and while he did finally criticize her for her most recent actions, this was not her first trip down anarchy lane. He just never dreamed that the hate would be pointed at him. Doesn’t sound like he’s really figured out this was indeed a self-inflicted doxing.

What would be the objection to retaining the communication as a public record while redacting the contact information that subjects the writer to potential harassment and retaliation?

In the article, she says she is motivated by her “love of others”. So this doxing was done out of love? Creating a public disruption was done out of love? Not love of others, but love of herself and her own opinions and beliefs, which we all must share, or else.

That’s actually the law in MN. The content itself is public information but the contact information and identity of the person who complained is protected information.

It depends on the jurisdiction. There is no such provision in my state. Normally, exceptions are created by the legislature, so if there is no such exception, the legislature needs to remedy the problem.

I saw that. I think its more she’s about as self-aware as a rock despite all her education and training. She’s been told one does these things out of love, she doing them, so of course she loves the downtrodden, as long as they don’t step out of line and question her motives. Its no co-incidence she loves Che too. He was a little more direct dealing with attempts to question his authority. She must have missed that part in her history lessons.

Sorry, I just couldn’t get Don Henley out of my head:

We’re picketin’ up the mall and picketin’ down MSP

And all she wants to do is dox, dox

Rebels been rebels since I don’t know when

And all she wants to do is dox

    Molotov cocktail- the local drink

And all she wants to do is dox, dox

BLM people walkin’ round with blood in their eyes

And all she wants to do is dox, dox

Wild-eyed pistol wavers who ain’t afraid to die

And all she wants to do is-

All she wants to do is dox and make politics

She can’t feel the heat comin’ off the web

    She’s Marxist party

She wants to get us down

All she wants to do is-

All she wants to do is dox

Well, the government logged constituents on the local gov page

And all she wants to do is dox, dox

To keep the boys sellin’ all the weapons they could scrounge

And all she wants to do is dox

But that don’t keep the boys from makin’ a buck or two

And all she wants to do is dox, dox

They still can sell the hood all the drugs that they can do

And all she wants to do is-

All she wants to do is dox and make politics

Well they barely made the airport for the last plane out

As they taxied down the runway I could hear the people shout

They said “Don’t come back here Honkey”

    But if they ever do-

    They’ll bring more money

‘Cause all she wants to do is dox and make politics

Never mind the heat comin’ off the web

    She’s Marxist party

She wants to get us down

All she wants to do is-

All she wants to do is dox

All she wants to do is dox and make politics

All she wants to do is dox

Ive had a politician track me down (via an email) and ring up and start to abuse me once before. I didn’t have my phone number on the email and wasn’t publicly listed, so Im sure he got a staff member to ferret it out somehow.

    Background here.
    http://www.truckinlife.com.au/articles/2011/hell-mess
TL:DR: The government knee jerk banned all exports of live cattle to Indonesia overnight after animal activists paid for some Indos to abuse cattle on camera for them. Cost billions, saw cattle stations sold for cents in the dollar and sent a lot of truckies broke.
The pollie owned a trucking company of his own and was a ‘traditional” labour working class man.
I explained I did know his background and couldn’t believe he was supporting a party which was overnight crippling his and other truckers businesses.

It then turned into a civil discussion in which he confessed to being in despair about the policy as well but the party leadership had announced the ban overnight.

Politicians are meant to persuade people, not try to punish them if they disagree.

This woman is an insane racist and a swine. She comes here from Mexico when she’s 10 and this is her “thank you.” I say create a law for immigrants. Toe the line and prove you understand how this country works throughout your lifetime. Otherwise, deport them.

The problem with that is the City of Minneapolis is a wholey owned subsidariry of the DFL, which is in turn, a joint venture of Education Minnesota (your friendly local Teachers Union) and the Alliance for a Better Minnesota (a Rockefeller Heiress’ personal political slush fund).

As for the idea of “Minnesota Nice” the insults I received making phone calls for the dysfunctional MN GOP last year at times got unpleasant.

Understood. I’m not suggesting either impeachment or the ballot box would be successful, but that certain initiatives designed to protect the public can become two-edged swords in the hands of unscrupulous politicians. The third option, of course, is to vote with one’s feet, leaving places like Minneapolis to become hell-holes like Detroit.

It’s worthwhile noting, however, that Ms. Cano’s antics affected people who in the past supported her. Yet another example of the Progressive/Leftist penchant for eating its own.
