Sad News This Morning

Posted on | January 6, 2010 | 14 Comments

Chris Dodd is expected to announce his forthcoming retirement from the Senate and Dodd’s decision not to seek re-election “could damage the Obama administration’s attempts to enact a meaningful overhaul of U.S. financial markets this year.”

Professor Glenn Reynolds must be heartbroken at this unfortunate development. Things just haven’t been the same for Dodd since Ted Kennedy died. An open-faced “waitress sandwich” isn’t quite as much fun.

UPDATE: Michelle Malkin is broken up with remorse about Dodd’s decision.

This actually could be bad. Beating Dodd was pretty much a foregone conclusion. Which criminal Democrat shall take his place in the race?

Oh Doddy boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer’s gone, and all the flowers are dying
‘Tis you, ’tis you must go and I must bide.
But never come ye back when summer’s in the meadow
Or when the valley’s hushed and white with AGW snow
‘Tis I’ll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Doddy boy, oh Doddy boy, I despise you so.

And if you come, the flowers will all be dying
And I hope I am dead, as dead I well may be
You’ll come and find the place where I am lying
And I hope you trip and break your damn knee.

And I shall hear, your moans of pain above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you’ll not fail to get out of the Senate
I’ll simply sleep in peace knowing you are not destroying my country.

I’ll simply sleep knowing you are not destroying my country

Talk in the twitterverse is saying that he’s quitting to clear the field for less damaged goods to run.

Like hell. I want Ted Kennedy as far away from my fun-time as possible.

haha..er..ahem.. awwwwwww… so.. heehee.. ahem.. sorry… er.. yeah.. whatever.

While I realize this could make it impossible to get that seat for our side, I cannot help but get a giggle out of this guy being shown the door. This is another one of those fellers who figgered on having his spot until the end of days and it gives me great joy that he’s having to change plans. Too bad he isn’t being shown the door into prison for his theft and lies, but I guess we can’t have everything.

This is a problem for me. I had a whole bunch of Chris Dodd Rule 5 clips ready to go.

Before we start hoisting brews to celebrate Dodd’s retirement, you might want to skip over to JBYP and consider what all these Dems retiring means.
