My Chance Meeting With Charles Bolden

This is one of those moments when you wish you kept a journal. It seemed that the tragic death of three Midshipmen in 1994 was the occasion for being in the Chapel of the Navy for a memorial service, and finding myself standing next to then-Colonel Bolden, the Dep. ‘Dant.

What I mostly remember was the astronoaut wings on his uniform:

In any case, that was 15+ years ago. He may have gone from literally out-of-this-world coolness to Mark 1, Mod 0 apparatchik, for all I know. Here he is, via PowerLine, where Paul seems concerned that the theraputic language in use may echo other policy confusion.
However, let’s note that this is Al frickin’ Jazeera here, and acquire some more data before pronouncing the man a complete squish.
I have no doubt that, if we want to pull our head out of the Socialist toilet and return to spacefaring, then Bolden is more than capable of leading that charge. Not a milquetoast, the fellow.

    Does the US President plan to appoint more religions to a favored status and basically ignore Christians and Jews? His party is constantly crying “separation of church and state”. Where is the ACLU with their WMD law suits? What about the Baha’is, the Rastamen, the Wigands and the Wag-ends and all the rest?

    I’ve always secretly wanted to do this. Now is the time:
    WHAT ABOUT THE SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE?

    @Fred,
    What about it?
    In Hopiumreich and Changeebaland, the Church is the State.

    Oh great – from astronaut wings to blithering space-cadet. Sorry pal, accepting Obie’s mission directive was a huge error.

    And Dave Weigel is your friend. And Tom Coburn thinks Nancy Pelosi is a nice person.

    I am sick to death of “you people”, open your stinking eyes. The cool people or the people you are impressed with are not always the good guys. I don’t mind you mentioning that you met him but the implication that he is somehow too honorable a man is beyond the pale.You think the Weigel thing would’ve given you a little humility. You size up Charles Bolden on very thin evidence but probably scoff at a lot highly intelligent, well-meaning people who did the same with Obama.

    The new media is getting as bad as old media. And the right/center-right is getting just as dishonest as the left.

    BTW, I read about the NASA mission months ago. And I don’t follow Al frickin’ Jazeera.
