If You Thinked That Romney Is Shocked By #OccupyResoluteDesk, You May Have The Problem

Come on, Bill:

How am I supposed to trust the judgment of a man who is such a dumbass that he’s actually shocked and surprised by Obama acting towards him the way Obama has acted toward every other political foe Obama has ever faced?
This pathetic tale makes Romney out to be either an ignoramus or a fool. Which one is it?

Romney cleaves to the Bush-ian tradition of ‘being above the fray’, coming out to surf the zeitgeist, while coloring well within the lines:

A more reasonable charge might be that Mitt is hoarding his political capital a bit more than necessary. Maybe he could spend more time on offense. But one interpretation of the body language could be that Romney is anxious not to let Obama appear wounded and cornered by Romney; self-immolation is fine, but Mitt needs to remain above the fray, knowing that the race card is in hot standby.

All of which is worth precisely what you paid for it.

All I know is that Romney is acting like a doofus, for whatever reason.  At least I’m not shocked by that.  Romney has always been a RINO doofus.  That’s why I loathe him.

I would like to see him throw a few body punches into Obama.

    Instead, WTF?

I’m sure it isn’t saying much but better a RINO doofus than some pinko Kenyan.

Maybe Romney is trying to attract those Obama voters with buyer’s remorse and he can’t do that by taking potshots or allowing the SCOAMF the opportunity to play the race card. There’s still three more months until November so maybe he’s keeping reserved until it’s closer to voting time.

I guess some people (I’m looking at you, Bill Q) go into every election cycle having forgotten the lesson of the last one, which is that successful politicians stay on message. How do they do that? By working up a “script” of sorts.

Romney’s script here has him responding to Obama in such a way as to highlight the contrast between Obama’s behavior and his own.

Drawing a contrast between oneself and one’s opponent that makes oneself look good and one’s opponent look bad, is called winning the election.

Nor should it surprise anyone that Romney’s act relies on staging and set dressing to convey, not an absolutely accurate picture of that contrast, but the one he thinks will best serve his needs.

He didn’t get the nomination by being inept. He also didn’t get it by being totally genuine.

Nope, he didn’t get it by being inept. He did get it by not being totally genuine and conned enough low info GOP voters into supporting him.

We’ll see if it’s can be called “winning the election.”

Like McCain? Worked sooooo well for him. He stayed “on message” all right. The message took him straight to Loserville. Is that the lesson we’re supposed to get from the “last election cycle”? That a well known Senator with about 40 years experience could lose to a “Community Organizer, Been in the Senate 2 years, No Name” candidate. McCain allowed Obama to stay on Obama’s message which was Hope and Change, rather than pointing out he was the “Chicago Machine, No Experience Ever, Communist” candidate.

Sometimes you have to take the other candidate off their message. That requires an offensive strategy and requires you to put them on the defensive and back on their heels.

Seems to me the only person missing the lesson of the last election is staring back at you from the mirror. (Not to mention the lessons of 2010 but I’ll leave that for another time).

(Not to mention the lessons of 2010 but I’ll leave that for another time).

That WAS the last election cycle, you drooling idiot.

And no, McCain didn’t stay on message. Remember how he suspended his campaign just as it was getting up a good head of steam? That was pure-dee stupid; he could have won. EVEN JOHN McCAIN could have won.

It remains to be seen if Romney will continue to stay on message — but if he does, he’ll go into November with a built-in advantage over the Obamarrhoids.

Which generates what I call “mixed emotions.” We could have done a whole lot better than Romney this time.
