The Left Loves Cop-Killers

The usual suspects protest in L.A. (Photo: Irfan Khan, Los Angeles Times)
Call it the Mumia Rule: All you have to do to become a hero to the Left is kill a cop. So the renegade ex-cop Christopher Dorner qualifies:
Dozens of protesters rallied outside Los Angeles police headquarters Saturday in support of Christopher Dorner, the former LAPD officer and suspected killer of four who died after a shootout and fire this week at a mountain cabin following one of the biggest manhunts in recent memory.. . .
Michael Nam, 30, who held a sign with a flaming tombstone and the inscription “RIP Habeas Corpus,” said it was “pretty obvious” police had no intention of bringing Dorner in alive.
“They were the judge, the jury and the executioner,” Nam said. “As an American citizen, you have the right to a trial and due process by law.” . . .
Dorner was already believed to have killed three people when he was cornered Tuesday at the cabin near Big Bear Lake, and during the standoff shot and killed a San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy, authorities said. . . .
The 33-year-old has already inspired a burgeoning subculture of followers. While most don’t condone killing, they see him as an outlaw hero who raged against powerful forces of authority.
An “outlaw hero . . . against powerful forces of authority”!
Why do these radical anti-authority types never protest against speed limits? Here I am, minding my own business, driving 82 mph in a 45-mph zone, and suddenly The Man and his radar are infringing my rights. How come protesters aren’t hailing me as an “outlaw hero,” huh?
The Left’s boundless rage “against powerful forces of authority” doesn’t extend to cops running a speed-trap in Livonia, Louisiana, I guess.
Nor does the Left seem able to muster any indignation about Mayor Bloomberg’s tyrannical nanny regime in New York City. Bloomberg is taking his anti-gun crusade nationwide and we haven’t heard a peep of protest from the Left.
Hey, lefties: How are your “outlaw hero” types supposed to kill cops and become symbols of “due process” (!) if they don’t have any guns?
Seeking logical consistency from the Left is a waste of time. Civil disobedience against speed limits doesn’t count toward “outlaw hero” status, and they don’t give a damn about “powerful forces of authority” unless it involves a cop-killer with a man-crush on Piers Morgan.
At any point in this saga, Dorner could have put down his weapons and walked into a police station with his hands up and he’d have been taken into custody without further incident. But by the same token, the police weren’t going to blindly wander around while searching for someone who had already shot several of their fellow officers without being prepared for the worst.
Good luck proving the hypothesis that the Left is interested in facts.

This is the crowd that Cobb refers to as The Coalition of the Damned.

These people are classic examples of the “weak-minded”. These fools love to”speak truth to power” unless it is Obama, the most powerful tyrant-in-waiting ever.
Furthermore, did Donner kill the mayor or the chief of police? No, he killed relatively powerless middle-class working cops.
I dare any of these know-nothing’s to go to the widow and tell her to her face that they support the killing of her husband.
Jerks.

Anybody who saw the video of that Riverside cop’s wife crying about what a perfect life they had before Dorner ambushed him at a traffic light would like to choke these people

Hey! I know that guy in the green shirt. His name is Josh. He’s not a lefty. He’s a libertarian. “RIP Habeas Corpus” is hardly a left issue. Not to mention, the anti authoritarian crowd DOES protest speed traps, and red light cameras, and the Bloomberg regime… what even gives the impression this was a leftist protest? This seems like very sloppy reporting. If you want to slam the left for being uninterested in facts, maybe you should show some interest in the facts yourself.

Stacy,
Was that the infamous rental Mustang episode? If so, that’s almost like having an “assault” car…
If ‘Stangs are outlawed only outlaws (and RSM) will have ‘Stangs.

No, the Mustang was in Iowa, and I never got caught there, despite setting a new land speed record for driving from Davenport to Pella.
The infamous Livonia incident: I was driving a rented Nissan about midnight during the Louisiana primary campaign, having covered a Newt Gingrich event in Baton Rouge and trying to get a head start toward the next day’s Rick Santorum event near Alexandria. It was not until after I’d had my rental car impounded — and barely talked my way out of a night in jail — that I discovered Livonia is a notorious speed trap, incorporated as a town entirely for the purpose of soaking unsuspecting travelers for massive fines.

Listen…if you want to protest the corruption in the LAPD, fine by me. But to make a hero of a cop killing maniac is beyond the pale and that’s what those idiots are doing. As said by Jazz Shaw…all Dorner had to do was give himself up, but he chose to off himself.
By the way, I protested a speed trap in SC and won.
I also got a 70 in a 45 down to 54 in a 45 and just a warning for passing in a no passing zone. 2 pts vs 10 pts. just by being polite to the officer and having my stuff ready when he got to my car. That was a savings of about $700 bucks in fines.

The point is, Christopher Dorner is not a hero. He’s not a martyr. He’s not a victim. To make the death of Dorner the occasion of an anti-police protest is therefore an act of violence against the truth.

I have noted that LAPD somewhat lags in calling for Emergency Services when a bad guy is down. Particularly when a) they shot/killed a cop b) led the cops on a dangerous chase c) made them look bad.
Still, when you start flinging lead at LEO’s, you have to expect a little unconcern for your well being after you’ve been brought down. (that’s if you’re still breathing)
Caveat emptor as they say. You bought the ticket now you have to go for the whole ride.
As for Dorner, it’s pretty obvious he wasn’t going to be taken alive except due to some fluke of circumstance.
Give him this much credit; he might’ve escaped clean if he hadn’t left those condo cleaners alive. If he’d a shot them, LE wouldn’t have known right away what vehicle he was in.
That’s not saying he redeemed himself or anything, but maybe he was beginning to have second thoughts now that the reality of how short his future was was sinking in.

Addendum: The left loves BLACK cop killers. (forgot that)

How come protesters aren’t hailing me as an ”outlaw hero,” huh?
Because you didn’t shoot them before going down yourself in the obligatory hail of gunfire. If you had, they’d be writing ballads about you. You’d be on tee shirts. PhD candidates would write dissertations on you. Naomi Wolf would decide that some white males are exemplary after all.

If Josh is, indeed, a Libertarian, I’m not surprised. Ideologues, not matter what side they’re on, are subject to much idiotic and disrespectful behavior.

Don’t forget to mention the heroic effort by Lisa Graas who saved you ass.
February 17th, 2013 @ 6:01 pm
A lot of the hero worship of Dorner came from people who identify themselves as libertarians on Facebook — at least in my experience. All too often there seems to be no difference between “Left” and “Libertarian” when it comes upholding the law and order necessary for a civil society. Many of these are also the same people who traffic into anti-Catholic bigotry. Go figure.
February 17th, 2013 @ 6:34 pm
It’s the fascination with anarchy that unites elements of the Left and Libertarians. Murder is the ultimate act against Order.
It’s not freedom the Left and Libertarians crave – it’s the absence of consequences. Still an inward focus, still anarchy.

Ummm, can we please try to keep in mind that Dorner is responsible for the deaths of 4 people, but I guess as long as the victims aren’t personal relations of the protesters that fact is easily brushed aside.

Dorner killed a daughter of a cop. He is no hero.

” I discovered
LivoniaLouisiana is a notorious speed trap,”FTFY. There are many towns in that state that meet the criteria for that label.

The Dorner case is just one more example of what drives me nuts about conservative pundits and bloggers. Even when they seem to know how liberals think, and how the media will spin anything to protect liberal ideals, they still can’t manage to write about it in a way that will blow that narrative away.
Chris Dorner was not a cop killer. Referring to him as a Cop Killer is what elevated him to Hero Status. I grew up white in the suburb of Warwick, Rhode Island and I hate cops. OK, not hate but pretty close to it. Disdain? Contempt. I wouldn’t trust a cop as far as I could throw him. Every encounter I’ve had with cops, with one exception, has been terrible. And I’m just talking about social situations and stories from friends of mine. Like the time a co-worker got arrested for DUI. Yes, she was wrong to drive drunk and the cops did the right thing by stopping her and arresting her. But how did she get the black eye? The whole right side of her face was black and blue. I asked her and she didn’t want to talk about it. She was ashamed and embarrassed. She was just glad she hadn’t hurt anybody. It didn’t matter she said. But I couldn’t believe how bad she looked so I pressed her.
She told me that she had mouthed off to one of the cops as they were handcuffing her and he grabbed her by the back of the head and slammed her face onto the hood of her car. This woman was a 5’10” anorexic. If she weighed a hundred pounds soaking wet I’d be surprised. And that ahole cop handcuff her and then slammed her face onto the hood of her car. Because she talked back to him while drunk.
The problem with conservatives is that too many of you will read that story and side with the cop. THAT’S why you’re seen as hateful racist, sexist, homophobic bigots by so many people.
Chris Dorner stalked and killed the DAUGHTER of the cop who represented him in the hearing with the LAPD that got him fired. He basically killed the daughter of his union rep. He’s a coward who didn’t have the guts to go after the cop. He killed that cops daughter and her boyfriend, both of whom were minorities. He ambushed them while they were sitting ducks in a car. His next shooting was the same. He happened upon a random cop car at a traffic light and opened fire on cops he didn’t know. Every shooting after that was when he was trying to escape.
Stop calling him cop killer. He was a coward who killed the daughter of a cop. Even the Mafia doesn’t go after family. This guy was lower than pond scum and calling him a cop killer masks his real crimes and feeds the narrative of the Left. Make these progressives aholes defend the murder of that girl and her boyfriend. For every conservative who thinks my drunk driving friend had it coming, there are millions of liberals out there who think every cop has it coming. Think about it.
February 18th, 2013 @ 1:25 pm
I don’t agree. Dorner was a victim of his own stupidity. If wanted revenge he would have gone home and shot himself.
Having said that, I have observed the police generally will kill anyone that kills a cop. Often merely threatening to defend yourself is a death sentence. Just as one young former Marine in Arizona who is a victim of Dupnik’s thugs masquerading as SWAT cops. Too often the cops are simply thugs carrying badges.

Alas, they are taking the rest of us for the same ride.
