Three Scary Words

“Gay Boy Scouts” — a contingent of whom led the New York Gay Pride parade Sunday. Those of us who participated in Scouts in our youth (I made it to Star Scout and my older brother made Life Scout) have no trouble explaining our common sense objections to “equality” in this context, but if radical ideologues cared about common sense, they wouldn’t be radical ideologues, would they?

Somewhere, executives at the Bravo network are imagining the notorious SNL “Canteen Boy” sketch as a reality show.

Coinkydink? The ad at the bottom of this post is for camping equipment. And the post about the Hobby Lobby decision has an ad for baby stuff. LOL.

    No, it’s NOT a coinkydink.

Those are Amazon Associates ads, and I chose them myself. Anything you buy through those ads, I get a commission. Because … CAPITALISM!

This is totally OT, RSM, but I know we share in common that we both blog, have 6 kids, and are former awesome male models, but I was wondering if you dipped? I saw a pic of you online with what looked like a big ol’ wad of snuff in your cheek.
    Curious bloggers want to know.

There have always been gay scouts. The issue in the past was mostly not an issue because it was not discussed or made an issue, a scout went through the BSA program and either eventually aged out, dropped out (be it for sports, or perhaps a musical theater program) or made eagle and went on from there.

The issue here is what could go wrong with openly identified gay leaders in a boy scout troop. I understand there are parents who might be gay (say a Lesbian couple) who want to have a boy in scouting for male role models, It is rare, but it definitely does happen. If you are around a boy scout troop practically every able bodied parent has to be in some sort of adult leadership position (especially since the BSA requires two deep adult leadership). So no child is left with an adult unless another adult is present. No parent ever sleeps in the same tent of a scout (with the exception of parents with their own kid and even that is relatively rare).

There will also be those gay people who are going to be recruited to scouting to make a political point. While annoying, and almost certainly not with the best interests of scouting at heart, most of them are not dangerous in a predatory sense. These annoying individuals will just encourage other scouts and parents to leave. Oh well, you have to break a few eggs to make a rainbow omelette. Fortunately they are relatively rare too.

And then there are real predators. They are probably unlikely to identify as “gay.” The good thing is this is rare and most parents have a radar for this. Disturbing individuals are often shunned out and isolated quickly (if a male shows up to volunteer with a troop who does not have a kid actively in scouting or a history with scouting or that particular troop–something may be wrong).

So a “Pride parade” is an opportunity for everyone to wear chaps and nothing else?

Good thing it is in June!

I know you get the commission. I just didn’t know you could place your own ads. (

(Already have enough camping stuff and hope I don’t have to buy diapers anymore…youngest grand daughter of 7 grand kids just got out of diapers.)

No gay issue here (that I know of) but a scout killed himself in San Diego today. RIP. http://www.wibw.com/home/headlines/CA-Boy-Scout-12-Dies-From-Self-Inflicted-Gunshot-265289741.html Looks like a suicide.

The mistake the Scouts made is that you cannot open Pandora’s box selectively. Letting in gays means that, when atheists push hard for inclusion, there is no defense. Or girls. Or communists. Or any other group that is not in line with the BSA’s foundational ethics. It is like planning to feed a hungry crocodile by selectively chopping off body parts and feeding them to the amphibian. It works, but only for a little while. And the crocodile keeps getting hungry, and there is never enough meat to satisfy it.

As I pointed out in another thread: the left is never done. There is always another “minority” waiting in line to get their reparations. There is always another “hateful” word that needs to be stricken from the lexicon.

Ah, SNL. Remember when it was funny, and favored nobody?
Wasn’t there a sketch called “Cabin Boy on the Raging Queen”, a pirate ship.

The BSA’s “gay” Scout decision troubles me…

I think even the very existence of the “gay” child/adolescent/minor is debatable: What does this actually mean?

Is the young “gay” person merely one afflicted with homosexual attractions or just exhibiting stereotypically “gay” mannerisms, or must the boy be actively practising homosexual behaviours—exclusively or just intermittently along with normal age and gender-appropriate sexuality?

In any case, is the labeling of a young man as “gay” something society should do lest we err in prematurely enabling, encouraging, and faciliting the boy’s entry into a lifestyle fraught with unnecessary and avoidable hazards? I don’t believe this is Scouting’s proper role!

(N.B. My own natural son is a Scout.)

The only orientations that should be discussed in Scouting are those involving compasses and mapping.

I should say there are scouts who later turned out to be homosexuals. It should not be a big deal. Scouting is not anti gay, but because it has not fully embraced the bsc fascism that passes as “gay rights” now a days, it is a target.

It was the “The wretched birth, miserable childhood, agonizingly painful adolescence, and appallingly vile and degrading death of Miles Cowperthwaite,” starring Michael Palin. It was a Dickens parody that took place mostly aboard the “Raging Queen.”

“Miles, we’re going to have to amputate your legs. When we pulled out of the water, they were soaking wet.”
