They Found Peggy Joseph!

Posted on | July 16, 2014 | 33 Comments

Everybody remembers the Florida woman who, during the 2008 campaign, gleefully declared in a TV news interview after an Obama campaign rally that if Obama was elected, she wouldn’t have to worry about putting gas in her car or paying her mortgage.

Over the years, whenever the headlines told of bad economic news I’d wonder aloud, “Whatever happened to Peggy Joseph?”

Thanks to documentary film director Joel Gilbert, now we know:

Ms. Joseph told Gilbert, after viewing the 2008 segment together that gave her notoriety, that not only has Obama not been paying her gas or mortgage, but both have gotten progressively harder to pay.
“During that time, we needed a change, but change for the better, not for the worse,” an awakened Peggy Joseph told Gilbert.
“He had a very big voice, just like the Wizard of Oz,” Joseph said, comparing Obama to the famous phony wizard. “The wizard was this little teeny-teeny tiny man, and I think it’s the same thing with Obama, the man behind the curtain,” Ms. Joseph said in a reflective, disappointing tone.
Ms. Joseph looks back at the time of her 2008 interview, saying, “I was Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. That’s how I feel.”
“What I learned is never trust the Wizard,” Joseph now says. “It’s within ourselves to have the determination, the courage, and the brains, to bring us to our destiny.”

What many people will find most surprising is that, contrary to widespread belief, Peggy Joseph wasn’t looking for a handout. She is not a welfare mooch. In fact, she is a suburban soccer mom, a Haitian immigrant who works hard as a nurse to support her four children. The question that remains now: Why can’t Republicans reach people like Peggy Joseph with a message of hope, growth and opportunity?

Maybe the Black Conservatives Fund can find an answer.

“Peggy the Moocher” they called her.

“I was Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz.” With which statement she summed up the whole problem with the American left. They live in a dream world which bares only a passing resemblance to reality.

Wow. It give me some home. While her past enthusiasm did warrant some mockery, it is good to see the whole person (or at least more of her). Too bad we did not see the whole politician that ended up getting elected.

It really doesn’t matter what Democrats do, black will still line up and vote for them. They’ve become part of their “tribe” and it will likely be that way for generations.

The best thing Republicans could do is end affirmative action and get as many people off the government dole as possible. Once blacks don’t feel like victims that need to be taken care of, they’ll start voting differently. It’s not about voter outreach, it’s about people living on the government plantation.

in my considered opinion, the reason the GOPe doesn’t do outreach well is that they have no desire to deal with such “piddling” things like carry a message of growth and hope. They are simply DimoKKKrap lite and have nothing to offer such people.
Conservatives, on the other hand….Which leads us to the Black Conservatives Fund. It’s going to have be people like that who carry the message.

She realizes she was bamboozled. But that won’t stop Peggy Joseph from voting for the next lying Dem with fancy false promises. She may not be a moocher but she still expects the government to solve all her problems. She excuses big government making things worse the way leftists always do by saying that we just had the wrong man at the controls. Big government is supported by the evil and the ignorant. Just because the ignorant ones are more sympathetic doesn’t mean they aren’t the enemy.

“Why can’t Republicans reach people like Peggy Joseph with a message of hope, growth and opportunity?”

Because they are too busy reaching across the aisle to let 100,000s of low-skill workers into the USA to further crush wages. What could go wrong?

Well, she’s one up on most left-leaning acquaintances of mine who once ranted non stop about how Bush and ‘Rethuglicans’ were destroying the solar system now ‘don’t want to discuss politics’ anymore and ,in fact, conveniently forbid political subjects at social gatherings.

It’s not surprising to discover that LI individuals attracted to the shallow, lazy ‘philosophy’ of left-socialist politics are characterless cowards.

Prepare for a flood of folks who think they will be the first one to say, “But you voted for Obama, twice!!”. Especially if you get a Drudge link to this.

Evidently petulance is rampant among the angry electorate.

The thing we really need to do is welcome the newly-awakened, get them a cup of coffee, and help them to see WHY the “wizards” always fail. Slapping them for speaking up is not how to get them to vote right the next time.

But the bottom line is that more and more black voters are indeed speaking out. Maybe the race card has finally gotten overextended to the point where the average citizen can tell.

Exactly. Republicans think you win their trust by promising free stuff. Reagan told them how their lives would be better if the government were prevented from getting in the way. It’s not like a secret formula. It just works.

The voter plantations didn’t take generations to create. It just took LBJ’s Great Society and a few decades.

I’m guessing the breaking up of the plantations will take less time.

Nothing ever said or done is going to change these people. They’ve been on the Democrat’s plantation in one form or another for so long that it’s culturally imbedded.

There are still millions like her who believe that the only reason they didn’t get free gas and free houses is because… Republicans and raaaaacists.

These people are different. They are victims. They enjoy being victims.
It keeps them from having to deal with the reality of self-sufficiency.
Life’s a bitch sometimes but it’s easier to handle when you’ve someone else to blame. (Bush, white folk, Republicans, “the rich”, corporations….)

Just because she’s realized that President Obama is a liar and a fraud (read= politician) doesn’t make her and her kind any better. She’d still take the free stuff as long as you and I were paying for it.

Screw Peggy Joseph and her kind then and screw Peggy Joseph and her kind now.

But the blacks, unions, and women were voting Democratic as part of the old FDR coalition, before the big spigots of federal funding were turned on.

It is almost as if they actually believe all that crap.

  20. Adjoran
    July 17th, 2014 @ 4:43 am

Reagan carried exactly that message and delivered on it. He won the highest share of the black vote since Nixon’s almost 39% in 1960 – 13%. But that was with 8% economic growth in the fall of 1984.

Tim Scott speaks frankly about the way black conservatives are treated, but he’s been fighting that good fight for nearly 20 years now, beginning with his time on the Charleston County Council. He’ll even admit the progress is mainly anecdotal. Still he soldiers on – he’s said that all you can do is what you believe is right, and keep doing it.

At this rate, we’ll get to the 20% support level again in 30 years or so. Maybe.

It’s America. You can bitch about the people you put in office.

The real test will be how they turn out in November and how they vote in 2016.

There is an active cultural indoctrination in the black “community,” children are taught from young ages to never trust white people, and that whites are the source of most problems for blacks.

It’s like the Palestinians glorifying suicide bombers on their kindergarten TV shows. Hard to overcome what is taught from childhood and universally believed by your family, friends, neighbors, and church members.

Whites have been the source of problems for blacks in America for hundreds of years. Thats self evident. If only working class whites wouldn’t fall for the racist divide and conquer game the establishment plays, there could some real change to how our ruling class operates. Conservatives are a far bigger obstacle to that happening than liberals are.

  29. Pinkerton
    July 18th, 2014 @ 1:18 pm

Yeah, because what the public really needs is even more money going to defense contractors, tax cuts for rich people, and corporations(it’s a lie that this spurs hiring), a gutting of the safety net, and further erosion of public education.

  30. cmdr358
    July 18th, 2014 @ 7:55 pm

If only people such as yourself
wouldn’t fall for the racist divide and conquer game that the progressive liberals have you absolutely convinced conservatives are conspiring about all the time.

You know, the same conservatives who as a whole have for some mysterious reason met and decided that we don’t want the minimum wage increase, we want to live with dirty air and unsafe water, poisoned food and no health care.

Who’s actually bringing this stuff up? President Obama, Hillary Clinton, et all.

Do you really beleive that if someone self indentifies as a conservative that they hate all blacks and all that other crap?

    Wake up!

Exactly. It is not the Federal Government’s business to help pay anyone’s mortgage or fill anyone’s gas tank. It is against the founding principles of this nation for the Federal Government to take care of anyone.
