They’re Here! They’re Queer!

Posted on | March 22, 2015 | 33 Comments

They’re the #NYFLC2015! The Feminist Majority Foundation’s National Young Feminist Leadership Conference is meeting this weekend in Washington, D.C., but if you mistook this event for a lesbian festival, the confusion is not your fault. Last year, several attendees at the conference complained that the event was not “queer” enough. No one could make that complaint this year. A blue-haired nose-pierced teenager who last year demanded “more queer feminism” this year was crying in joy over a speech by lesbian activist Darlene Nipper.

Queer feminists were everywhere at this year’s conference, including on the “Sex Positivity” panel, where college girls learned about “exploring and deconstructing gender norms and promoting self-love.”

There was a “Queering Your Campus” panel offering college girls “inclusive discussions . . . to organize on campus for gender-neutral restrooms or housing” and “sustain a queer campus community.”

Queering Your Campus

Nancy Aragon, National Campus Organizer, FMF
Rukia Brooks, Feminist Collective, University of South Carolina
Cassidy Hammond, Feminists Organizing Real Transformation Here (FORTH), SUNY Purchase
Beth Feldstein, Wellesley College
Samantha Master, Youth and Campus Engagement Manager, Human Rights Campaign
Koda Mehalba, President, The Alliance, Salem State University

And then, of course, there was the “LGBTQ Frontiers” panel because “it’s time for our activism around LGBTQ+ to expand,” teaching “what true liberation and equality for LGBTQ people looks like.”

LGBTQ Frontiers: Beyond Marriage Equality

Gautam Raghavan, Vice President of Policy, The Gill Foundation
Shelley Hallstead, Law Students for Reproductive Justice Fellow, National Center for Lesbian Rights
Laura Durson, Director, Center for American Progress LBGTQ Research and Communications Project
Cathy Santos, Secretary & Co-Founder of Trans Students Advisory Committee, Feminist Collective, University of South Carolina

Just included a couple of biographies to point out that these college girls were spending the weekend in Washington with Nancy Aragon, “a proud queer feminist,” and Samantha Master, a “Black, queer, feminist activist,” among others. Hey, did you notice the name of Carmen Rios here? Yeah, we remember the “raging lesbian feminist” Carmen Rios.

Just a few tweets of possible interest to feminist youth:

Please excuse the low-quality scans from the #NYFLC2015 program. The Feminist Majority Agenda didn’t list the panel descriptions or name the participants on their web siteI wonder why? — and so my source scanned in pages using a smartphone. Not going to name my source without permission. I wouldn’t want an agent of the patriarchy to be targeted for “inclusivity” by a mob of angry lesbians.

With all due respect to Jeff Foxworthy:

You know you might be a feminist…
If your “sex-positivity” is “grounded in … promoting self-love.”

Blue hair AND a pierced nose.

Not that it’s a stereotype, or anything …

Now now … I believe I posted a couple of pics here that blue hair can be quite fetching on a lovely woman. 🙂

Is it just me, or does “self-love” sound like a euphemism for playing with yourself?
Also, what’s up with this woman describing herself as “a black… alumnae”? Alumnae is the *plural* form, you idiot! You mean “a black alumna”! Mispluralising Latin nouns really ought to be considered a form of microaggression, if you ask me…

Yeah. but you see that the unnatural hair color AND the weird facial piercing in combination is sort of a reliable code for “Not Really Into That Heteronormative Deal.” It’s sort of the Lesbian Bat-Signal.

Alas, microaggressions may only be perpetrated against people who have no power. Misspelling Latin nouns or using the wrong case only pisses of pre-Vatican II priests and classic majors who do nothing except study dead white guys for fun. In point of fact, I’ll bet she considers “alumnae” a powerful blow against the White Heterosexual Male Christian Hegemony.

Not just you, but it’s worse to read it the other way, since then it’s example #n+1 of how feminism is a “cluster B” personality disorder writ large. They’re missing the whole effing point! (Pun intended.)

I read it as an endorsement for narcissism. These people are, to cite PJ O’Rourke – Filled to the bunghole with enormous esteem for themselves.

I’ll cut a little slack for the “Alumnae” thing. Anyone who majors in “Womyn’s Studies” and goes to college mainly to become an activist clearly isn’t much concerned about academic excellence.

Well, at least they’ll be self limiting. This will “peter” (sorry) out in about 40 years due to lack of members. They will either be absorbed in staying alive or will be living with their SO in a childless “marriage” in a trailer with 10 cats.

You haven’t been paying attention. What do you think all these Womyns Studies departments are for? They’re going to keep cranking out deranged specimens like this until the college bubble implodes or people stop paying to send their kids to schools like these, whichever comes first.

You know a culture has reached its pinnacle of decadence when kids are more interested in carving out a niche for their ‘unique’ sexual and gender deviance, than contributing constructively to the betterment of society. We will fall.

Be encouraged! I believe that a very large pendulum has shifted. We won’t see the results right away, since it’s like how the hottest part of the day is several hours after noon — it takes awhile after it starts declining to not be adding more heat — but the trend is in the right direction, I think.

Maybe she’s got split personality disorder, hence the plural form…

  27. Dana
    March 23rd, 2015 @ 8:56 am

An obvious question: why would queers want to “organize on campus for gender-neutral restrooms and housing”? If they are queer, then having sex-separated bathrooms and housing would have them apart from the people with whom they would not wish to copulate, and who would not be risks for unwanted sexual thoughts or invitations or comments, and leave them more in the company of those people with whom sex is a more attractive option?

I mean, I can see where a gaggle of normal girls might be titillated –word very deliberately chosen — if someone who looked like our host’s soldier son walked into the bathroom and whipped out his organ of PIV rape, but one would think that the abnormal girls would simply be offended.

I did point out to my daughters that a piercing can be removed, and it will just look like an over-large pore, but a tattoo is forever.

Other than their ears, neither daughter has a piercing, and neither has any tattoos.

I think it’s probably deliberately ae because alumna is the feminine form, and gender-specific langauge is… you know the rest.

They’re promoting trans-inclusiveness for the purpose of promoting androgyny for the purpose of subverting heterosexuality for the purpose of disabling the human family for the purpose of enabling the authoritarian State.
