California Dope Farm Child Slavery and Why Conservative Journalism Matters

Bad news this week for Gov. Gavin Newsom:

Ten illegal migrant youths, most of them unaccompanied, were found at a California marijuana farm during a tense immigration raid on Thursday, prompting federal officials to launch an investigation into possible child labor violations.
The youngsters, one just 14 years old, were discovered by federal agents at Glass House Farms in Southern California during a chaotic operation in which one protester appeared to fire a gun at authorities, Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott said on X Thursday.
“This is Newsom’s California,” Scott said in response to California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who shared a video of the raid.
Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin revealed Friday the feds “rescued” eight of the minors, who crossed the border “unaccompanied.”
McLaughlin said the alarming situation “looks like exploitation, violation of child labor laws and potentially human trafficking or smuggling.” . . .
The farm’s president, Graham Farrar, is a regular donor to Democratic politicians, according to Federal Election Commission records.
Farrar has donated to the Santa Barbara County Democratic Central Committee’s federal political action committee and Rep. Salud Carbajal, D-Calif, on multiple occasions, according to the records.
He also donated $10,000 to Newsom in 2018, according to California records.

So, Governor Newsom — considered a leading “mainstream” contender for the Democratic Party’s 2028 presidential nomination — is supported by a corporate marijuana producer who uses foreign child labor supplied by human traffickers. How much of this would you know if you got your news from ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS or CNN? The correct answer is zero, because those outlets almost completely ignored this story.

Consider how CBS News reported the story Friday:

After riots at a California marijuana farm where ICE conducted an operation arresting 200 illegal immigrants, Los Angeles correspondent Carter Evans repeated on Friday’s CBS Evening News what someone he interviewed about the matter told him, mainly that “she feels like pretty much everyone with brown skin is a target.”
The media’s desire to base journalistic objectivity around what they view as truth instead of neutrality only seems to apply when they can call Republicans untruthful. As Evans began, he ran off Homeland Security’s justifications, “As for the raids in Camarillo and another nearby cannabis farm, the Department of Homeland Security claims it entered with search warrants, rescued at least ten migrant children from potential exploitation, and arrested what it described as 200 illegal aliens, while more than 500 rioters attempted to disrupt operations. The standoff lasted for hours, well into the night.”

The CBS audience is told that, according to “someone” cited as a source, “everyone with brown skin” was targeted in the ICE raid, whereas when government officials explain the actual purpose of the operation, this is merely what DHS “claims” and those apprehended in the raid are merely “described as . . . illegal aliens.” At any point during Biden’s presidency, did CBS News ever exhibit such skepticism toward the “claims” made by officials of his administration? And notice that there is no information in the CBS News report about the CEO of the cannabis company being a $10,000 donor to California’s Democratic governor.

Literal child slavery is happening in Newsom’s California, but the CBS News audience is left with the impression that the real issue is racism, because “pretty much everyone with brown skin is a target” of Trump’s immigration policy. If your 80-year-old grandma believes such nonsense, now you know why. And can you imagine how much worse it would be if there were no conservative alternatives to the “mainstream” media?
