Jane Jamison, R.I.P.

Posted on | August 30, 2011 | 30 Comments

Dell Hill from Uncoverage.net called today to tell me that the blog’s founder, Jane Jamison, died Saturday. Dell told me — I hadn’t previously known — that her name wasn’t actually Jane Jamison, but that this was a pseudonym she used to keep her life as a political commentator separate from the liberal world in which she might actually need to apply for a job.

She lived in the San Francisco Bay area, and was regular a radio guest on Jaz McKay’s popular afternoon program on KNZR 1560 AM in Bakersfield. She once got me onto Jaz’s show as a guest, which was pretty cool. Jane was also a contributor at Right Wing News, where John Hawkins has a brief remembrance.

Dell explained to me something else I hadn’t realized, that he became a blogger at Uncoverage.net after reaching Jane’s site through a link here. He said he noticed she seemed very busy, putting up lots of posts every day, and offered to contribute. She accepted his offer and now, it appears, Dell will keep Uncoverage.net going online after Jane’s death.

Ironically, Dell never actually met Jane in person. He lives in the Northeast, while she lived in California. I met Jane when she attended CPAC. She will be missed. Our sympathies to all her friends and family.

UPDATE: Yid With Lid has a photo of the lovely Jane. Linked by The Lonely Conservative and by Fleming and Hayes — thanks! — and now a Memeorandum thread.

If I’m not mistaken I have a shot of Jane in one of my fedoras, she didn’t want the photos hyped since she wanted to keep herself private.

I Know This, You Know This, IKTYKT in net lingo, but essentially human life is a lonely journey. Friends may come, companions may come, but there is no permanent friend. From birth to death Man has to walk alone. Maya makes us believe that we have spouse, sons, daughters, friends etc, permanently with us. Forgive me if I sound cynical or philosophical. I’m probably just photorealist.

Mates can be replaced even if the replacement is not quite as good as one recalls the old one being, but children are more limited as companions. They are lost almost as soon as they’re born. If you have babies and toddlers and school kids, one dying off to become another and the connection between the infant and the adult is mainly a matter of imagination. They didn’t die or run away, they morphed and slowly swallowed up the old.

Sudden and unexpected changes are harder to accept. Sudden changes rip large areas out of the psyche. That’s the case even for unusually good extreme unexpected change. Like any covering, like skin, they fill in…without infection or death during the vulnerable period if we’re lucky. There is no philosophy that can change that, it’s just a part of the same kind of reality that bodies are governed by.

She was a keen observer with penetrating insights.  I linked her sometimes, but more often tweeted.  There wasn’t much to add when Jane finished with a topic.  She was one of those people whom I read and thought, why isn’t she a bigger name in the Sphere?

    Bon voyage.

Stacy has a pic of JJ from the 2010 CPAC somewhere in the archives…and she’s wearing somebody’s fedora.

Was that her that made the latest post on the blog about having to deal with a family emergency for a few days? That’s eerie as hell. Any word on what happened? How old was this woman anyway? Sorry if this comes across as insensitive, but it just makes you wonder.

Stacy has graciously (and very accurately) relayed just about everything we know right now, TPT.  There is an investigation on-going by local authorities, but I don’t have anything to report on that as yet.  I could speculate, but I don’t think that would appropriate, nor would it serve any useful purpose.

In this body live many people from different times and places and some are more vulnerable than others to dogma and cultural conditioning and fear-based rhetoric and nationalism and hate and delusion. So it’s important for our well being as a people who share one body in which to interact with the world that we all get on the same page with each other during polarising, wedge politics. A lot of my posts are really forothers in my system to read as well as for TOMers.

A sudden death is a big shock. One moment the person is here, then they
are forever gone. I am very sorry for you and Jane’s family.

I have no idea or advice about what you should or should not do. Just wanted to send you caring thoughts.

What feels like the right thing for me to do rather than feeling sad for anyone (who has lost a loved one) is to remember beautiful moments that I had with him/her and send him/her loving and comforting feelings as he/she makes adjustments to his/her new environment.

Yeah I noticed all that. Hey that all right, its kind of cool in a way. Hell I might have a few other people living in my body for all I know, I just haven’t gotten around to having conversations with them on McCain’s blog yet.
