VIDEO: Romney Touts Bipartisanship in Positive New Campaign Ad

Posted on | October 19, 2012 | 7 Comments

Very simple — a clip from the second debate:

This ad should scare the daylights out of Democrats: For Romney to be running a positive ad this late in the campaign is a gesture of confidence. And it is likewise a gesture of confidence for Romney to be making this kind of appeal to bipartisanship, trying to win over “soft” Democrats. The campaign is attempting to position Mitt as a uniting, centrist figure and doing so quite effectively.

It’s the kind of thing you do when you know you’re winning.

Hopefully that bipartisan shit won’t be necessary. But it’s a good thing to say as it appeals to the mushies.

That’s a brilliant ad, because it shows it shows Obama with his smug look while Romney is earnestly wanting to turn this economy, this country around. It’s a veiled negative ad at the same time, because it subtly attacks Obama’s narcissism.

Obama’s advertising is going over to positive, too, with a warm and fuzzy commercial narrated by Morgan Freeman. It’s a total pack of lies about how great Obama’s done and how much greater a second term would be, of course, but it doesn’t attack. It’s typical for all candidates to go positive in the last couple of weeks before the election since voters keep saying they hate negative ads.

Unless we take the Senate by enough to scare the Democrats quiet, we will need some bipartisan negotiations to get things done. That’s why Romney wisely refuses to get too deep in specifics, so everything can be on the table and there will be some crumbs to throw to the Democrats.

That’s important, because they are going to squawk when they find out the days of tax credits being paid out beyond the taxes you paid in are over.

Point taken about the Senate but Harry has got to go as leader whether majority or minority, if necessary, or perhaps fortuitously, maybe Granny could be induced to step aside if we don’t take the Senate in some sort of perverse bi-curious bargain.
As to Comrade President’s positive ads, didn’t the Ragin Cajun’s focus groups establish last spring that lying to voters about how good things are nowadays just pisses off the voters?
