Today’s Metaphor For Progress

by Smitty

McPherson Square Park, over at American Glob, has the before/after pictures that show us just how swell Progress can be. I’m looking at the Daily Presidential Tracking Poll, seeing that #OccupyOvalOffice has nearly clawed himself to a single-digit disapproval, and wondering if we’re losing sight of the prize.

Between now and November, every number is going to be as cooked as McPherson Square: the jobs number, the approval number, the Dow. You’re dealing with an utterly ruthless crew, in this administration. Do not forget that, ye patriots.

Due To Unpopular Demand, The World’s Youngest Blogger May Not Attend CPAC

by Smitty

Bill Quick links to Red State discussion of the plans for #OccupyCPAC.

Let’s face facts: CPAC is a high-risk evolution. I’m talking about traveling to and from a major hotel in the capital city of the country, in daylight hours, using a mix of public and private transportation. That is really living on the edge, isn’t it?

Except that our President, #OccupyResoluteDesk, has engendered conditions such that these #Occupy losers can flaunt civic ordnances, and bully law-abiding tax payers with thuggish behavior. The president has sympathized and abetted these #Occupy losers. What a disgusting insult to our heritage.

While trying to keep the tone civil here, I am close to shaking with rage. Unfortunately, in trying to ensure that the country I hand over to the World’s Youngest Blogger at least somewhat resembles the land of opportunity in which I grew, I cannot go risking a six-month-old to these Occupy losers. They are going to have to be permitted to win that much.

That is all.

‘Occupy’ Protesters at Bachmann HQ: Proof That Gardasil Causes Retardation?

JOHNSTON, Iowa
Michele Bachmann has taken a lot of flak for saying that she was approached in Florida by a mother who claimed her daughter suffered brain damage as the result of a Gardasil vaccination. You may sneer at that claim, but when I showed up at Bachmann’s Iowa campaign headquarters today for an scheduled media event, I saw plenty of people displaying evidence of diminished mental capacity — and I’m not just talking about the MSM reporters.

Two busloads of smelly hippie scum from the “Occupy Iowa” movement were on the scene, engaged in their usual feeble-minded parody of “civil disobedience” protests. Just before I arrived, at least one Occupier had been arrested, and the rest of the scummy mob were exiting the parking lot under orders from the local police. Chanting, beating drums, giving media interviews and — as you will hear at about the 35-second mark of this video — unwittingly disclosing their next protest target:

STUPID OCCUPIER DUDE: “Hey, are we going to Perry next? … OK. I think I –“
HOMELY OCCUPIER CHICK: “Hey, we don’t want to say that very loud.”

I immediately alerted my friend Barbara Espinosa, who is working as a volunteer for Perry in Iowa, that they could expect this influx of subnormal semi-human detritus to show up at their campaign headquarters later. Whatever evil things I might have said about the Perry campaign, nobody deserves to be ambushed by these “Occupy” vermin. I suggested to one of the police officers that they should start randomly tasing and pepper-spraying the filthy hippies, just on general principles, but my advice was evidently ignored.

At the door to the headquarters, I saw Bachmann’s press spokeswoman Alice Stewart, flashed my business card and got inside, where I encountered a different kind of mob: Reporters surrounding the candidate as she joined her volunteers in making phone calls to Iowa voters.

Perhaps you can spot Congresswoman Bachmann amidst that massive media mob. The way you can tell the difference between the media and the Occupiers is that the media are usually somewhat less liberal and more likely to have had a bath in the past week.

OK, enough sarcasm for one post. It’s New Year’s Eve and I’m planning to celebrate it here in Iowa to the best of my ability. And surely the loyal readers who have helped make this trip possible by their contributions to the Shoe Leather Fund will want me to have a good time on one of the rare nights during this campaign trail trip when, fortunately, I don’t have a deadline to worry about.

Hit the freaking tip jar!

IOWA NOTEBOOK: Occupy Caucuses?

Rick Perry speaks at Smokey Row coffee shop
Pella, Iowa, Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011

DAVENPORT, Iowa
After days of chasing after campaigns, I find myself in the unusual position of waiting for the campaign to come to me. Rick Santorum will be here in Davenport this evening for a 7 p.m. event, and so I’m hunkered down in the corner booth at a McDonald’s, which will be temporary headquarters of the National Affairs Desk for a few hours.

The National Affairs Desk, 2:10 p.m. CT, Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011

There’s news today about the Occupiers, who have announced plans to disrupt the GOP caucuses here:

DES MOINES, Iowa — Five Occupy protesters were arrested Thursday outside the Iowa campaign headquarters of presidential contender Ron Paul as the group continued its protest against Republican candidates and President Barack Obama.
The five were cited with trespassing and later released after they refused repeated requests to leave Paul’s campaign office in the Des Moines suburb of Ankeny. The action came a day after seven protesters were arrested outside Republican Mitt Romney’s Des Moines headquarters, and Occupy spokeswoman Danielle Ryun said more protests, and probably arrests, will come.
“They’re all going to get equal play on this,” Ryun said. “We are very disillusioned with every candidate.”
The protests are part of an Occupy the Caucuses effort launched this week in Des Moines, attracting activists from around the country. Many of them have promised to interrupt campaign activities.
Ryun said the protesters would be going to the Iowa Democratic Party headquarters in Des Moines later Thursday and to other Republican candidate offices Friday.
Eight protesters were arrested at the state Democratic Party offices on Dec. 19. Ryan said protesters would try to get into the offices again Thursday.
Lt. Ben Bowersox, an Ankeny police spokesman, said as many as 15 protesters were at the Paul headquarters. They were told to move to a public sidewalk nearby or face arrest. All but the five moved to the sidewalk.

“Cited with trespassing and later released”? These scum should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law — and beyond. A bunch of worthless punks running around whining about how oppressed they are? I say, give them a nice taste of some real oppression: Tase them, pepper spray them, beat them with nightsticks. Crush them like ants.

But these are merely my personal feelings, and do not reflect the official opinions of the Future U.S. Embassy in Vanuatu. Continue reading IOWA NOTEBOOK: Occupy Caucuses? →

#OccupyDC Nativity Scene

by Smitty

I found the cluttered thinking of the woman who stated she’s Jewish to be most interesting. The notion that if you’re going to represent one religion, you should represent all religions is fantastically silly. If a religion is a spiritual course to steer, then you should drive all directions at once? That’s a formula for going nowhere, I should think.

Because I’m Feeling Kinda Bad About Giving Ace of Spades Such a Hard Time …

. . . I guess it’s time to “pay tribute” by stealing more of his blog content. Like this psychological profile of Occupiers:

[M]any of the rank-and-file occupiers feel isolated in their lives, and appear to lack basic community ties such as are provided by participation in clubs, churches, and strong families…. They thus attach to their political causes with something like a religious fervor. For many, a commitment to “social justice” is “not the end, but rather a means to an inflated sense of self and purpose in their own lives.” Crucially, involvement with others who agree with them provides an “overwhelming feeling of being part of a family.” . . .
[T]he leadership, is less existentially lost, and derives its fulfillment from the “prestige,” “validation,” and “control” afforded by the movement’s coverage in the media. . . . Its members fill the ranks of the professional Left and boast long histories of attending and organizing protests. For them, indignation is quotidian, “community action” is a career, and they feel “validated by the fame and attention” and “rewarded for their life choices.” . . . There is nothing spontaneous or organic about the movements they lead. They are waiting for the revolution and hope to be in its vanguard. Their careers depend upon it.

It’s tragic, isn’t it? When people turn to politics as “a means to an inflated sense of self and purpose in their own lives,” they often lose perspective to such a degree that they do hateful and atrocious things.

Like, for example, endorsing Rick Perry.

The looming crisis in Iowa, with the Fate of the Free World (not to mention my future diplomatic career as ambassador to Vanuatu) depending entirely on the success of underdog Rick Santorum, has strained my nerves to the breaking point.

So when I lashed out at Ace for his endorsement of Rick Perry, you’ve got to view this as an emotional reaction to campaign-induced stress. And also because anybody who endorses Perry is either dishonest or naive, or quite possibly retarded by the Gardasil vaccine.

Nothing personal, you understand. I mean, just because Ace hates “innocent little 12-year-old girls” . . . But I hate to talk about “the incestuous state of conservative opinion online,” when the easy way out is to blame Ladd Ehlinger Jr. for stirring up trouble again.

Because I’m magnanimous like that.

No, Jesse Jackson, Jesus Was An #Occupier To About The Extent You Are Worth Two Hoots As A Reverend

by Smitty

And neither was Martin Luther King an #Occupier:One wonders whether the #Occupie weenies grasp that you are just a tool of the 1%, Jesse? Why don’t you do the entire planet a favor and just retire, sir?

People who call themselves Christians should keep in mind:

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Matt 7:22-23

Goes for me, too, lest I get too overconfident.
