The question of Tyler Robinson’s motive in the assassination of Charlie Kirk took a very weird turn on Saturday:

A 22-year-old wannabe professional gamer who lived with Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin gave cops incriminating text messages leading to his arrest.
Lance Twiggs turned over Tyler Robinson, who lived with him in a three-bedroom apartment in Saint George, Utah, Daily Mail can reveal.
Twiggs showed police texts from Robinson about stashing a gun linked to Wednesday’s shooting of the prominent conservative activist at Utah Valley University (UVU), a law enforcement affidavit said.
His identity was revealed as separate reports emerged from Fox and the New York Post which stated that Robinson was living with a ‘transgender partner’ who is co-operating with the investigation. . . .

Alleged Charlie Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson appeared to have a fixation on furries — while his live-in transgender boyfriend espoused support for Joe Biden and joked about being mentally ill, according to social media posts linked to the pair.
Lance Twiggs, 22, an aspiring pro gamer and Robinson’s roommate, appears to have made a comment in a 2022 Reddit post stating, “We are riding with Biden on this glorious subreddit.”
Twiggs, whose family appears to be conservative Christians based in Utah, is transitioning from male to female and was in a relationship with with the 22-year-old Robinson, Gov. Spencer Cox confirmed Sunday.

They were “in a relationship.” Lance was Tyler’s “live-in transgender boyfriend.” Do I have to explain how that works? Would it help if I posted some diagrams from illustrated books that are probably in your child’s public school library? No, that’s probably not necessary. If you don’t know what the word sodomy means, you’re not going to get any further education here. But I just felt the need to call attention to the polite use of “boyfriend” and “relationship” to describe what was happening between Tyler and Lance (who also went by “Luna,” according to Andy Ngo).

Anyway, Axios got no fewer than six sources talking to them who confirmed the “romantic relationship” between Tyler and his boy/“girl” friend Lance/“Luna.” Furthermore, they report on the motive:

Authorities are investigating whether Tyler Robinson, suspected of killing Charlie Kirk, believed Kirk’s views on gender identity were “hateful” to people like Robinson’s transgender roommate.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox (R) confirmed Sunday on ABC News’ “This Week” that Robinson lived with a romantic partner who was undergoing a gender transition.
Robinson’s roommate is cooperating with authorities, Cox said, but Robinson is not and has not confessed to Kirk’s killing. . . .
Federal and state law enforcement officials also are examining leftist groups in Utah to see whether they had knowledge of the alleged shooter’s plans beforehand, or if they lent material support to him afterward.

Absolving herself and her fellow Democrats of responsibility for inciting murderous hatred, Nancy Pelosi insinuated Friday that somehow Donald Trump himself is actually to blame for the murder of Charlie Kirk, saying that change needs to come “from the top” of the government. No matter what happens, the explanation is always: Orange Man Bad!

Jonathan Turley recites some recent history:

For years, Pelosi and other Democrats have blamed President Donald Trump and Republicans for their “inciteful rhetoric.” In seeking Trump’s impeachment, Pelosi bellowed that the use of “words such as a cry ‘to fight like hell’” produces violence and added, “words matter. Truth matters. Accountability matters.” . . .
When a mob destroyed statues, Pelosi brushed aside the criminal conduct and said, “People will do what they do.”
Pelosi’s latest pivot comes as Democratic leaders whip supporters into a frenzy over the impending death of democracy and the need to “fight back.”
Despite objections from many of us that the rhetoric was pushing supporters to violence, Democrats have continued to call for resistance to tyranny or oligarchy. . . .
Many are using the very words that Pelosi previously said were not just impeachable but criminal incitement. Democrats ratcheted up claims of a “coup” and called for Democrats to “fight in the streets.”
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D., N.Y.) has called for people to take to the streets to save democracy and posted a picture brandishing a baseball bat.
Jeffries has also called for Democrats to fight “in the streets.”
Former Democratic National Committee deputy chair Keith Ellison, now the Minnesota attorney general, once said Antifa would “strike fear in the heart” of Trump. . . .
California Governor Gavin Newsom declared, “I’m going to punch these sons of bitches in the mouth.” It follows other violent rhetoric from Democratic leaders.

Much of this Trump Derangement Syndrome behavior can be traced to the simple problem of Democrats actually believing their own campaign rhetoric. If you go back to 2016, what was Hillary Clinton’s campaign platform? What signature policy did she offer voters? In other words, what was she asking them to vote for? You can’t answer that, except with vague phrases about being on “the right side of history” and electing The First Woman President. As a policy vehicle, Hillary Clinton’s campaign was hollow, with no real selling-point. Instead, Team Clinton offered an entirely negative message about Donald Trump being a Putin puppet and an Existential Threat to Our Democracy. Nine years later, Democrats still have no other message and, living inside that echo chamber of negativity, they’re trapped in a doom-loop, a labyrinth of their own construction.

This is their message: Charlie Kirk deserved to die, because all Trump supporters deserve to die. Democrats have nothing else to say, so they’ll just keep yelling “fascist,” knowing full well the likely consequences of their rhetoric. Democrats are now the Murder Party.

Thursday night’s press conference was pretty much a nothingburger and I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’ve been getting frustrated with the long delay in catching the Utah shooter. Now, however, the president himself says the FBI finally got their man:

President Trump announced Friday that a suspect has been arrested for Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
“I think, with a high degree of certainty, we have him,” Trump told “Fox & Friends” during a live interview at the cable giant’s Manhattan studio
‘Somebody who was very close to him turned him in,” the president said.
The suspect was allegedly believed to have fired a single shot from an elevated position about 200 yards from the tent where Kirk, 31, was seated at the university’s Losee Center, authorities and sources previously told The Post. . . .
Officers from at least four law enforcement agencies were involved in the manhunt, including the FBI, the Orem Police, the Utah Department of Public Safety and the Utah Valley University Police.

UPDATE 9:58 a.m. ET: The name of the suspect is Tyler Robinson, age 22. We still await the beginning of the press conference.

UPDATE 10:22 a.m. ET: The main briefer at the press conference was Utah Gov. Spencer Cox, who laid out the evidence and testimony that led to the arrest of Tyler Robinson. According to witnesses, Robinson had become “more political,” and expressed “hate.” His messages on Discord were part of the evidence. Governor Cox quoted the Antifa messages inscribed on the bullet cases found in the rifle that Robinson used.

After Wednesday’s “now we’ve got him/now we don’t” confusion over whether law enforcement had arrested the gunman who assassinated Charlie Cook, today there is supposed to be a press conference where the FBI will announce the latest developments in the investigation.

UPDATE 4:55 p.m. ET: At this point, I am not going to name the person that the 4chan crew has identified as the likely shooter, but you can do your own search on X and decide for yourself.

UPDATE 5:40 p.m. ET: As I understand it, Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel are flying out to Utah for the press conference, which was delayed to make time for their arrival.

If that is correct — and I’m just repeating what was said on Fox News — then it’s quite likely they will be prepared to identify the suspect who, I would guess, is already in custody. In the meantime, we’ve got 4chan claiming that the shooter is what Andy Ngo would call “Trantifa,” the weird synthesis of trangenderism and Antifa that has emerged in recent years. If you want to learn more about transgenderism, I would refer you to my friend Cynthia Yockey, who has made herself an autodidactic expert on the phenomenon of autogynephilia. The intersection of radical leftism and psychiatric disorders should not be ignored.

We shall see what is said at the press conference.

UPDATE 6:45 p.m. ET: My friend Matt Margolis reports:

Investigators have already recovered what is believed to be the murder weapon, a high-powered bolt-action rifle, along with other forensic evidence, including a footwear impression, a palm print, and forearm imprints. FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Bohls said more than 130 tips have poured in from the public.
Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason detailed how investigators tracked the suspect’s movements. “Starting at 11:52 a.m. this subject arrived on campus,” Mason said. He explained that surveillance showed the individual making his way through stairwells and onto the roof before reaching the shooting position. After the attack, the suspect reportedly crossed to the other side of the building, jumped down, and escaped into a nearby neighborhood. Mason also noted that authorities have obtained “good video footage” of the shooter but have not yet released it.
The rifle found near the campus was an older-model Mauser .30-06 bolt action. It was discovered wrapped in a towel in a wooded area, with a spent cartridge chambered and three unspent rounds still in the magazine. Disturbingly, those rounds were engraved with messaging tied to transgender and “anti-fascist” ideology.

About 2:45 p.m. ET, my phone started buzzing with messages that Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk had been shot while speaking on a college campus in Utah. The videos that circulated on X/Twitter looked very, very bad. Everybody started praying for Charlie, but about 4:40 p.m. ET, President Trump broke the news that Charlie had died.

UPDATE 5:20 p.m. ET: Ben Shapiro:

Like all of you, I am utterly stunned and heartbroken and sick to my soul today. It is unimaginable to write these words. I met Charlie Kirk when he was 18 years old, a young man so eager and determined that I immediately turned to a friend and said, “That kid is going to be the head of the RNC one day.” Charlie became even bigger and more important than that. It was a privilege to watch this principled man stand up for his beliefs and create the single most important conservative political organization in America. But more importantly, Charlie was a good man, a man who believed in right and wrong, who stood by his Biblical values. All of us will miss him, and I can’t imagine the pain of his beautiful young family, and we must all pray for them. And we must pick up the baton where Charlie left it, fighting for the things he believed in so passionately. And we must fight for a better America – an America where good people can speak truth and debate passionately without fear of a bullet. I weep for Charlie’s family, and I weep for my country today. Most of all, I weep for Charlie.

At this point, by the way, the gunman is not in custody. The cops put someone in handcuffs immediately after the shooting, but apparently that was not the gunman. Until the shooter is apprehended and/or identified, we cannot know his motive, and I caution (as always in such situations) about making assumptions about the motive.

UPDATE 5:35 p.m. ET: It is an understatement to say that Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) have not exactly covered themselves in glory today.

UPDATE 7:20 p.m. ET: FBI Director Kash Patel and Utah Gov. Spencer Cox both separately have said that a suspect is in custody. Apparently, the shooter had a rifle and was on the rooftop of a building about 200 yards from where Charlie was speaking. We don’t know much more at this point. When more is known, I’ll post it.

UPDATE 11:45 p.m. ET: It’s now being reported that the “suspect in custody” has been questioned and released and is not the shooter. So that apparently means that the gunman escaped the immediate scene of the crime and his whereabouts are now unknown. Several people on X have pointed out that a “kill shot” at 200 yards indicates that this was a very skilled marksman, and his ability to escape after committing such a public atrocity can be interpreted as evidence of a very high level of planning. Don’t want to venture into conspiracy-theory territory here, but this doesn’t seem like the work of just some random kook.
