Washington Post Reports Menendez Corruption, Downplays Jailbait Hookers
Posted on | February 7, 2013 | 21 Comments
Even when they can’t find a way to avoid covering a Democrat Party scandal, they strive valiantly to retain their precious moral superiority. Front-page headine in the Washington Post:
Sen. Menendez contacted top officials
in friend’s Medicare dispute
However, as Jeffrey Meyer points out at Newsbusters, the 43-paragraph front-page story ignores the sexual allegations against Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), which are relegated to a Style section article by Manuel Roig-Franzia derogating the prostitution angle and those who originally broke the story:
After providing four paragraphs on page C4 outlining the prostitution scandal, the article then went into an 17 additional paragraphs on the layout and atmosphere of the resort community known as “Casa de Campo” . . .
Roig-Franzia vehemently tried to refute the prostitution allegations against Menendez by mentioning, “the allegations — made by an anonymous whistleblower and first publicized on a conservative Web site — have not been verified independently.” . . . Roig-Franzia seems intent on suggesting it’s near impossible for a hooker to slip by Casa de Campo’s crack security staff . . .
Notice how closely the WaPo‘s “Don’t Believe Right-Wing Blogs” meme echoes Menendez’s own narrative, described by Michelle Malkin:
In his latest statement on the matter Monday, Menendez repeated his blanket denials of any wrongdoing, recycled his attack on conservative media reporting the story and labeled accounts of the alleged island sex parties “smears.” . . .
While Melgen shelled out millions to Menendez and the Democratic Party over the years, he is a serial tax evader. The jet-setting doc incurred liens of $1.3 million before 2002, $6.2 million in 2011, and a still outstanding $11.1 million lien between 2006 and 2009. And the FBI and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services — not a part of the “right-wing” blogosphere the last time I checked — are now sifting through boxes of documents they carted away during last week’s raid of Melgen’s offices as part of a Medicare fraud investigation.
The feds finally acted after a document shredding truck was spotted outside Melgen’s clinic. I think it’s safe to say a “right-wing blog” didn’t send it.
Mendendez’s dismissal of “smears” by “right-wing blogs,” and the WaPo’s contemptuous attitude toward “allegations . . . publicized on a conservative Web site” are essentially the same meme: Attack the credibility of Matthew Boyle, who broke the story at the Daily Caller.
Menendez’s motives for attacking Boyle are obvious, as are the mainstream media’s: If the WaPo were to acknowledge that Boyle was right about Menendez, this raises the question of why the WaPo (with its large staff of professional journalists) didn’t follow-up on that scoop.

CNN Endorses Terrorist Organization That Incited Gun Violence in D.C.
Posted on | February 7, 2013 | 7 Comments
Nice Deb thinks the Southern Poverty Law Center should be classified as a “hate group,” but I prefer the term “terrorist organization,” because of the political/religious nature of the jihad that SPLC inspired against the Family Research Council. Also, in light of what we know about the Obama administration’s policy, it may be possible to order drone strikes against leaders of the SPLC if they were deemed a terrorist organization. At the very least, maybe we could ship Floyd Corkins, “the SPLC’s Pet Assassin,” down to Guantanamo Bay for a few waterboarding sessions.
If SPLC is a sort of domestic Al-Qaeda, CNN is their Al-Jazeera:
CNN has not only promoted this list of “hate groups” in the past, but after the shooting it re-affirmed the FRC’s place on the list as “hate spewing hate.”
As Paul Bedard of The Washington Examiner reported, the shooter “told the FBI that he wanted to kill anti-gay targets and went to the law center’s website for ideas.”
Only 20 hours after the shooting, CNN cited a 13 year-old FRC pamphlet to support the SPLC’s label of them as a “hate group.” Anchor Zoraida Sambolin passionately insisted: “But it is spewing hate, isn’t it? It is spewing hate. So it’s hate spewing hate.”
Four days after that, anchor Randi Kaye used the SPLC map to report on “hate groups” in the U.S., still treating it as a credible source.
In light of this helpful information, I’ve decided to stop calling CNN “The Third-Place Cable News Network Nobody Watches” and instead start calling them “The Third-Place Cable News Network Nobody (Except Hate-Filled Anti-Christian Terrorist Homosexuals) Watches.”
25 May Gun March On The Mall

Via Nice Deb comes news both of state capitol rallies tomorrow at 1000, and of a full-on rally being organized for May 25th at high noon.
This is encouraging. There has been a sad lack of large-scale rallies, for whatever reason. In my perfect world, we’d be down on the Mall 2-3 times a year, peacefully reminding our Ruling Class Overlords of an extra-Beltway existence.
Calling all Gun Owners and Patriots you are cordially invited to attend the first 2nd Amendment rally at The National Mall in Washington D.C. on Saturday May 25th 2013 at Noon Eastern Time (Tentatively Pending Sponsors). We are hoping to attract up to 10 Million Gun Owners/Patriots to the National Mall for a rally to show our support for the 2nd Amendment. The 2nd Amendment of the United States Constitution is the part of the United States Bill of Rights that protects and insures the right of the people to keep and bear arms.
Once we have secured the venue we will confirm the date and time. This is a grass roots endeavor so any national celebrities that would like to help please contact us at this e-mail address.
Let’s show up, tell #OccupyResoluteDesk what we think of his demagoguery in lieu of proper execution of his office, and leave the place more tidy than found.

William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection reports on a congressional ethics investigation that has found “there is substantial reason to believe that Representative Owens accepted payment of travel expenses for an officially connected trip to Taiwan from an impermissible source, resulting in an impermissible gift, in violation of federal law and House Rules.”
And by “substantial reason,” they mean: Guilty! Guilty! Guilty!

Is Senator Menendez Doomed?
Posted on | February 6, 2013 | 30 Comments
Short answer: Hell to the yes!
Two FBI sources have told The Daily Caller that the bureau’s inquiry into Democratic New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez is now based in New Jersey, not Miami. One added that pressure is mounting from the highest levels of the Justice Department to pursue the investigation.
The change of focus away from the bureau’s Miami field office indicates that the government is focused primarily on Sen. Menendez — and not on his longtime donor Dr. Salomon Melgen, as political observers have speculated.
Menendez is embroiled in a scandal sparked by allegations that he slept with underage prostitutes in the Dominican Republic.
(Hat-tip: Viral Read.) There are rumors that powerful Democrats are now working to hasten the downfall of Menendez. Why do you think mainstream reporters are getting the greenlight for stories like this one by Shane Goldmacher of National Journal?
When Robert Menendez arrived in the U.S. Senate in 2006, he was a relative pauper in a chamber often called a millionaires’ club. The New Jersey Democrat ranked 97th out of 100 senators in terms of his personal wealth, according to financial records filed that year and compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics.
So Menendez’s decision last month to use his personal funds to reimburse a prominent political contributor $58,500 for two flights to the Dominican Republic came at a major cost. The repayment amounts to between 32 percent and 87 percent of the assets Menendez reported holding in bank accounts and stock, according to his latest financial-disclosure form, which was filed last year.
Menendez repaid Florida eye doctor and political donor Salomon Melgen only after his free flights aboard Melgen’s plane became public and the subject of a Senate ethics complaint.
Attempts by certain liberal journalists (e.g., Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post) to minimize the seriousness of this scandal will prove ineffectual, because if Senator Menendez tries to hang on, it might inspire greater scrutiny to other politicians connected to Dr. Melgen, and those other politicians don’t need that scrutiny.
Say hello to the underside of the Democrat bus, Senator Menendez.

Gayle Trotter of the Independent Women’s Forum explains to Sean Hannity why Second Amendment rights are so important for women:
Becca Lower has the transcript of the interview:
I think this view is not something that the media is covering. I think it’s something that people haven’t really considered, and I really wanted to speak to women about this very important Constitutional right. And explain to them the cases. I had an Appendix which had twenty-one examples of women defending themselves against violent attack with firearms. . . .
I have an example of a woman who was attacked by five armed intruders. I had an example where a woman defended her child from being kidnapped. I had multiple examples of women with babies, with young children, trying to defend themselves. And so no one who criticized me bothered to read the written testimony that I submitted to the Senate.
Read the rest of the transcript. Gayle Trotter is the co-founder of a Washington law firm, a woman of genuine accomplishment, and you have to ask yourself: Why do to the media act as if Sandra Fluke speaks for all women, while ignoring an excellent role model like Gayle Trotter?

Hate Kills: Left’s Demonization of Conservative Group Inspired Shooter

Who told Floyd Corkins that the Family Research Council was a leading opponent of the gay-rights agenda? Who convinced Floyd Corkins that opponents of the gay-rights agenda were evil people who need to die? Whoever they are, they’ve got blood on their hands:
After years of thinking it over, Floyd Corkins finally had a plan.
He’d bought a gun and learned how to use it. He’d loaded three magazines. And he had stopped by Chick-Fil-A to pick up 15 sandwiches, which he planned to smear in the dying faces of staffers he expected to kill at the Family Research Council in Washington.
It would be a statement, he said, “against the people who work in that building,” according to documents filed in U.S. District Court, where Corkins pleaded guilty on Wednesday to three charges related to the August shooting at the conservative policy group.
Corkins told Judge Richard Roberts that he hoped to intimidate gay rights opponents. . . .
“They endorse Chick-Fil-A and also Chick-Fil-A came out against gay marriage, so I was going to use that as a statement,” prosecutors quoted Corkins as telling investigators.
Guess what? The Southern Poverty Law Center — which did much to demonize the Family Research Center by listing them as a “hate” group — is embraced as a valuable partner by Eric Holder’s Justice Department. So, in effect, the Obama administration has given its imprimatur of approval to this terrorism against conservatives.
Read more about the SPLC/DOJ partnership at Atlas Shrugs.
UPDATE: Steve Ertelt at LifeNews quotes Family Research Council President Tony Perkins:
“The Southern Poverty Law Center can no longer say that it is not a source for those bent on committing acts of violence. Only by ending its hate labeling practices will the SPLC send a message that it no longer wishes to be a source for those who would commit acts of violence that are only designed to intimidate and silence Christians and others who support natural marriage and traditional morality.”
Again, I repeat: The Department of Justice under Eric Holder is fully in partnership with the SPLC and thus tactitly endorses this group’s terroristic war of intimidation against conservatives.
UPDATE II (Smitty): welcome, Instapundit readers!
