About the only criticism I can offer of this video is that the production is kinda flashy. In other words, it’s spot-on, and I’m scraping about to try to find anything at all to say other than: ‘Yep’.

This video is a must-see for everyone. #OccupyResoluteDesk, Uncle Choo-Choo, and the rest of the clown car have simply Got. To. Go.

Sure Am Glad It Was The Saudis Who Objected To .gay Internet Domain

Posted on | August 15, 2012 | 19 Comments

by Smitty

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has objected to a variety of new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) ranging from .porn and .sexy to .wine and .bar and .bible, according to records of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

Can you imagine the barrage of shrill, tedious lectures on the need for tolerance if, say, Dan Cathy had had the mindless, medieval morality to express an opinion less than fully supportive of a gTLD for the LBGT crew? Instead, we won’t hear peep #1 from that ‘victim’ category.

F. Scott Fitzgerald famously noted:

The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function.

It’s one thing to note that two ideas are in tension, e.g. the individual vs. society, and resolve the friction in a mature way. It’s quite another to dive into the Postmodern cesspool, reject Truth, and be reduced to a hedonistic Lefty animal, for example, an #Occupy loser. Where is the nobility in childishly screaming for pleasure, unless silenced by some bully threatening violence?

For my part, I’m weighing in around libertarian on this one: I don’t care what others are doing. Though I hope what they do edifies.

I Blame Rachel Maddow!

Posted on | August 15, 2012 | 20 Comments

And why not? If you Google her name with Chick-fil-A and Family Research Council, you get more than 450,000 hits.

It therefore should be obvious that Maddow’s hateful rhetoric against Chick-fil-A and Family Research Council incited today’s shooting at FRC’s office in Washington, D.C.

Now that we have determined the shooter’s motive and found a scapegoat to blame — remember that I am a professional journalist like Brian Ross of ABC News — we can start worrying about, y’know, facts and stuff.

UPDATE: OK, we don’t actually know the named of the so-called “suspect” — and by “suspect,” I mean the guy who walked into FRC’s office and shot the security guard, as opposed to the person who is really responsible, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow.

For those of you who don’t want this Brian Ross-style professional journalism, check in with Michelle “Just a Blogger” Malkin.

UPDATE II: The so-called “suspect” — whose name we don’t know, but who was obviously president of the Rachel Maddow Fan Club — was carrying Chick-fil-A promotional materials and food as well as weapons, though the FBI has not yet confirmed.

I got that at Twitchy, which isn’t really professional journalism, since they haven’t joined my Brian Ross-style hunt for a scapegoat, which is what professional journalists do.

Hey, Girl, It’s Paul Ryan — in Ohio!

Posted on | August 15, 2012 | 16 Comments

REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio
My previous plan to visit my sister-in-law today got scrambled by the news that the Future Vice President of the United States is returning this afternoon to his alma mater, Miami University of Ohio at Oxford, Ohio:

450 E. High Street, Oxford, OH 45056
Doors Open at 3:30 PM
Event Begins at 5:30 PM
To RSVP and get your ticket, click here http://mi.tt/MVqIH1
Parking will be available at John D. Millet Hall, located at 500 E. Sycamore in Oxford, Ohio 45056

Obviously, I’ve got to be there. It’s 130 miles away, so I’ll have to hit the road immediately, but first let’s talk about the guy I’ve said should have the Secret Service code-name “Dreamy”:

Before he was Mitt Romney’s running mate, Paul D. Ryan was a prominent congressman, an intellectual leader of the GOP and, of all things, a stand-in for actor Ryan Gosling in an Internet meme.
“Hey Girl, It’s Paul Ryan” takes the Wisconsin representative and, with a bit of wordplay, turns him into an Internet sex symbol. Take, for example, this photo of Ryan, with the caption, “Hey girl, you know I can’t inflate our love . . . and that would just devalue it anyways.”
The site started when Emily Zanotti, an account services director for a Chicago-based communications agency, and two friends, Lyndsey Fifield and Lindsey Dodge, drew a connection between Ryan’s stories of bare-handed “catfish noodling” (popularized by the New York Times) and the pre-existing “Hey Girl” meme featuring Gosling. After making a few images, they decided to start the site in May, never expecting it to be met with such popularity. . . .

Read the whole thing. And hit the freaking tip jar. I may not be an “Internet sex symbol,” but . . .

Mitt Romney speaks in Beallsville, Ohio, Aug. 14, 2012

REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio — Mitt Romney’s stop yesterday in Eastern Ohio’s “Coal Country” was an interesting event. Here was Romney — whom Democrats say is “out of touch” with working Americans — on stage with dozens of grimy-faced coal miners, and getting cheered by a crowd full of hardhat-wearing miners.

A miner’s wife sports a hardhat at the Beallsville rally

Many of the miners had brought their wives and kids to the rally. They got Cokes and hot dogs and it was like a late-summer picnic. There was nothing “astroturf” about this crowd of miners: Big muscular bearded guys with tattoos, and the warm-up music before the event featured lots of tunes of the modern country type, with rock guitars and lyrics about dirt roads and trucks. Frankly, I’m not sure what political message — if any — is sent by Luke Bryan’s “Country Girl (Shake It for Me),” but the crowd seemed to enjoy it, which was probably the point.

Romney senior advisor Kevin Madden talks to reporters at Beallsville.

A coal miner makes pretty good wages. It’s very much a man’s job, the kind of job that enables a guy with a high-school education and a strong back to be the bread-winner for his family and, as such, coal mining is a community institution in Eastern Ohio.

Why the hell would Obama want to diss these blue-collar guys to pander to a bunch of environmentalist weenies? I talked about the stakes in my American Spectator column today:

Romney began his Ohio tour Tuesday with a rally at a coal mine in Beallsville, highlighting the coal industry’s importance to the local economy — and the hostility of the president’s policies toward that industry. Hundreds of muscular miners in hardhats, wearing stickers with the slogan “Stop Obama’s War on Coal,” cheered and applauded Romney as he asked a rhetorical question, “We have 250 years of coal, why the heck wouldn’t we use it?” Near the West Virginia state line, Beallsville is in Monroe County, which Obama carried by nine points over Republican John McCain in 2008, but the Democratic administration’s energy and environmental policies have estranged many miners and their families. Even the United Mine Workers, the union once bossed by current AFL-CIO chief Richard Trumka, has hesitated to endorse Obama this year. Referring to the administration’s plans to limit coal-fired electrical power plants, the UMW’s spokesman told the Washington Times, “Our members aren’t stupid… they see what this means.” . . .

Please read the whole thing.
