A Return to Frontier Justice?
Posted on | September 3, 2025 | Comments Off on A Return to Frontier Justice?

“Ultimately, police exist not to protect the public from criminals, but to protect criminals from the public,” Professor Glenn Reynolds has said. As in so many cases, however, the advancements of civilization are generally taken for granted by the destructive agents of “progressivism.”
Most Americans have little appreciation for such rights as trial by jury, enshrined in our Bill of Rights more than two centuries ago, which still remain unknown in much of the world. Our justice system rests upon a foundation that took centuries for our distant ancestors to construct, but how many people have taken time to read Winston Churchill’s A History of the English-Speaking Peoples, which recounts this development?
Furthermore, however, the origins of modern police are so little known that, during the 2020 peak of “Black Lives Matter” mania, it was widely claimed (and apparently, believed by many) that our police forces originated as patrols to apprehend slaves — a hateful myth so far from the truth that it cannot be considered a mere error, but is rather a deliberate libel. The world’s first police force was established in England in 1829 under the guidance of Sir Robert Peel. In the U.S., “The first organized, publicly funded professional full-time police services were established in Boston in 1838, New York in 1844, and Philadelphia in 1854.” However, outside of large cities — which were the only places with sufficient tax revenue to support a full-time police force — law enforcement remained in the hands of the county sheriff, a title which itself derives from origins in England (the “reeve” of the “shire”).
On the American frontier, the agencies of law enforcement were so limited that the pioneers mainly had to rely on themselves to defend their lives and property, which is why the horse thief could expect no more “justice” than could be obtained with a long rope and a tall tree. The concept of “frontier justice” was behind the once-famous advice that Andrew Jackson got from his mother, which has been variously quoted, either: “Andy, never tell a lie, nor take what is not your own, nor sue for slander, settle those cases yourself.” Or: “Never bring a suit in law for assault and battery or for defamation. The law affords no remedy for such outrages that can satisfy the feelings of a true man.” In other words, there are times when you just have to whup somebody’s ass.
All of this is preamble to an online video, reportedly recorded in Australia, of a young fellow who decided to whup somebody’s ass. The algorithm won’t allow that video to be embedded, but what it shows is a Muslim youth who allegedly was seeking to have sex with an underage girl, but when he showed up at a park to meet her, was confronted by someone who, I suppose, was the girl’s older brother. A solid beatdown was delivered, probably sufficient to deter repeat offenses.
A reminder that the police exist primarily to protect criminals from vigilante justice. Lax law enforcement (and two-tier justice) will have consequences that liberals won’t like. https://t.co/3LhLmfKqOv
— The Patriarch Tree (@PatriarchTree) September 2, 2025
We have seen widespread unrest in the United Kingdom lately because the law enforcement establishment there has failed to protect young girls from such menaces, and if something isn’t done to correct this failure, I suspect we’ll see more such vigilante measures. You have been warned.

Bad Causes Attract Bad People (and Why NPCs Can’t Resist ‘The Current Thing’)
Posted on | September 2, 2025 | Comments Off on Bad Causes Attract Bad People (and Why NPCs Can’t Resist ‘The Current Thing’)

Perhaps many readers have forgotten Kaitlyn Hunt:
You remember her? The teenage Florida lesbian who briefly became a liberal media cause célèbre after she was arrested in 2013 for having sex with a 14-year-old girl? The media bought into a #FreeKate narrative — promoted by Hunt’s parents — that she was a victim of homophobia, but Florida’s age of consent law was very clear and plenty of heterosexuals had been prosecuted for sex with minors. Furthermore, as more facts about the case came to light, it became evident that this allegedly innocent “romance” (as some in the media tried to paint it) was rather sordid, including meeting up for sex in the school restroom. The victim’s parents had tried to get Hunt to leave their daughter alone, but Hunt was obsessed with the girl.
That episode was what led me to formulate the maxim, “Bad causes attract bad people.” From the outset of the controversy, it was obvious to me that what the #FreeKate activists were doing was a de facto attempt to carve out a gay loophole in statutory rape laws. Many of those who initially supported leniency for Kaitlyn Hunt had been misled by media misrepresentations of the case and, once they learned the truth, quietly dropped out of the #FreeKate crusade. However, there was a hard core of True Believers who insisted that it was wrong for the teenage lesbian predator to be treated the same as any other sex offender, and they were all very bad people — deranged and demonic, objectively pro-evil.
The point that Max Nordau makes about pro-Palestinian enthusiasts (hat-tip Instapundit) is another example of how the “bad causes attract bad people” principle operates. How sociopathic do you have to be to take the side of the Hamas terrorists who began this war on October 7, 2023, by attacking innocent people attending a music festival? But of course, the “Free Palestine” nitwits will either (a) insist that the 10/7 attacks were justified as “resistance” against “occupiers,” or else (b) dishonestly claim that they are not actually supporting Hamas. Either way, however, they’ll (c) pretend that Israel is engaging in “genocide” in Gaza.
They are either dishonest or ignorant, except when they’re both.
? Rep. Rashida Tlaib at the People’s Conference for Palestine
At one of the most radical conferences in America, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib took the stage and lashed out at critics.
“Every genocide enabler, look at this room motherfuckers — we ain’t going anywhere.”
She then… pic.twitter.com/LMqSpTTuzZ
— Stu (@thestustustudio) August 31, 2025
The phrase “genocide enablers” is a deliberate lie. It is Hamas that has genocidal ambitions, and which bears the responsibility for the suffering caused by the war that they started on 10/7. But if you will just wait a few weeks or, at most a few months, you’ll find that the “progressive” cheerleaders for Palestine will have moved onto some other “cause” or “issue” to bother us about. During the #GamerGate controversy, gamers began using the term “NPC” to refer to the hive of armchair activists who mindlessly parrot left-wing talking points. They are called NPCs because of their similarity “non-player characters” in a video game — programmed to perform their roles, without any original thoughts of their own. NPCs are always excited about The Current Thing, a term describing “woke progressives who identify with an ever-changing constellation of causes that seemingly shift from day to day.”
Those who are now decrying “genocide” in Gaza were, just a few months ago, posting Ukrainian flags in their social media profiles. Before that, they were worked up about the J6 “insurrection,” and before that, Black Lives Matter, and before that, #MeToo. The causes come and go, according to the vogue of progressive concerns. From time to time, the NPCs return to a few favorite causes — climate change, gun control, abortion rights, etc. — but they’re constantly updating their agenda to fit the latest fashions. If you’re old enough to remember the 1970s or ’80s, you may recall the protests against nuclear power plants, or the “Live Aid” enthusiasm about African famine relief. The fact that this herd of bleating sheep wander from one cause to another reflects the nature of their interest in politics. They are engaged in moral grandstanding, trying to attract admiration for the Noble Courage of their Commitment to Social Justice. They are not actually interested in helping any alleged victims of oppression. No, it’s really all about them and their need to think of themselves as being brave and enlightened.
Ridicule them or ignore them. Just don’t become like them.

I have Jim Sundberg behind the plate and Mike “The Human Rain Delay” Hargrove as rookies, which will allow me to have Kingman at DH for games in American League parks. On looking over the stats from the 1973 season, I noticed that I had winning records only against National League teams and on Astroturf, and for a moment I thought about telling Pete I was moving the team to Texas after all – but to Houston. Then the moment passed.

KiwiFarms Sues U.K. and It’s Awesome
Posted on | August 30, 2025 | Comments Off on KiwiFarms Sues U.K. and It’s Awesome
Regular readers here know that I’ve often praised the online forum Kiwi Farms as an invaluable source of information on “LOLcows,” which is their term for idiots who make fools of themselves online, as I explained in October 2023:
Some of us are old enough to remember when, 15 or 20 years ago, Silicon Valley had a libertarian tilt. Entities like Google were very much in favor of free speech and very much against censorship, but more recently, they’ve gone 180 degrees in the opposite direction. Probably the defining event of this shift — the moment when Big Tech’s pro-censorship regime made clear its intentions — was the episode known as “GamerGate,” beginning in August 2014 with the drama surrounding Zoe Quinn (a/k/a the Tattoo-Covered, Mentally Ill Ex-Stripper Whose Real Name Is Chelsea Van Valkenburg).
#GamerGate was my first encounter with Kiwi Farms, which proved to be useful for research on such personalities as Zoe Quinn, Nicholas Edwin “Sarah” Nyberg, and “Brianna Wu” (a/k/a John Walker Flynt) who were involved in the controversy as left-wing SJWs (“Social Justice Warriors”).
What united the SJWs was the rallying cry of “harassment” — #GamerGate was, according to them, about the misogynistic bullying of women in the videogame industry, and claims of victimhood were amplified to promote that narrative, even though the alleged victims of harassment were relatively obscure people who were, at best, marginal to the industry,
There seems to be an unwritten rule that left-wing activists should be entitled to say or do anything they like without criticism. To criticize such a left-winger is to “harass” them, and this alleged “harassment” then becomes a pretext for silencing criticism of the Left. Kiwi Farms says “to hell with that” and, even though most participants in the forum are not ostensibly political — and I doubt many consider themselves conservatives — they vehemently oppose this kind of censorship.
So the United Kingdom’s Office of Communications (Ofcom) wants to enforce their Online Safety Act’s age-verification requirements. KiwiFarms and 4chan hired lawyers to sue the U.K. over this, and one of the lawyers they hired is my friend Ron Coleman. The filing begins thus:
The Internet is a global system of communication between computer servers, located in data centers around the world. Despite the Internet’s global reach, it is more or less universally acknowledged that the Internet is, predominantly, an American innovation, built by American citizens, residents, and companies, and that the United States has the largest and most thriving technology sector of any G7 member state.
Foreign governments, particularly those in Europe, which have not managed to build technology sectors of their own have, for the past half-decade or more, sought to control the American Internet, and hobble American competitiveness, through a range of legislative and nonlegislative initiatives.
These foreign governments have threatened American and other non-European entrepreneurs with a wide range of coercive threats, including, fines, arrest, and imprisonment, for engaging in conduct which is perfectly lawful in the territories where their websites are based, including in the United States. . . .
The United Kingdom recently joined France in seeking to apply its domestic laws to the rest of the world, with the enactment of its censorship law, the Online Safety Act 2023
(“OSA”). Immediately after the OSA’s substantive provisions entered into force, this censorship law was used to target the free speech rights of American citizens. . . .
This lawsuit seeks to restrain Ofcom’s conduct and its continuing egregious violations of Americans’ civil rights, including, without limitation, to the right of freedom of speech.
AMERICA, BABY! The Kiwi Farmers are very pleased, expressing themselves in, uh . . . colorful language.
Take a bow, @RonColeman ! https://t.co/z6XNn45iKT
