A Tale of Two Bloggies

It was the best of blogs, it was the worst of blogs…
The http://rsmccain.blogspot.com/ website was a great place to convince ourselves that we could blog, find an audience and command its attention. But the Big Brother convenience of Blogger squelched our dreams of galactic conquest; of subjugating the foe; of . . .
Stacy, as The Talent, offers the direction. “To WordPress!” said he. “OK,” I replied, only to discover that we really needed a dedicated site to maximize our blog-fu.
Trundling down to The Sundries Shack, I queried the noble Sir Jimmie: “What do you advise, Mr. Bise?”
Without hesitation, Jimmie recommended his own hosting outfit, Silver Logic. In particular, he cited excellent support from Riika Magnus. Read on while I nod in vigorous agreement with Jimmie.
The little technical details are kind of a big deal with Information Technology. Having spent a couple of years building “The Other McCain” as a brand, Stacy has excellent cause for wanting to retain and strengthen The Other McCain as a brand.
Now, at some point in the past, and I am completely ignorant of the details, they guys at Forward Focus Media had registered http://theothermccain.com on Stacy’s behalf. While I was doing the hosting setup, I had registered http://mccainmutiny, thinking that a riff off the old Bogart flick would catch our cocky swagger in a delightfully nautical fashion. Our readers may chide him for his sobriety on the matter, but The Talent was firm on the need to retain http://theothermccain.com.
Austin Wilkes of Forward Focus Media was very gracious and prompt in working with Riika to get the domain switched to the Silver Logic IP address, or we would have succumbed to a bout of the dreaded Tucker Carlson’s Disease and missed our rollout. But, thanks to Austin and Riika, we’re making it (and my bow tie collection can beat up Tucker’s in any case).
Also in our parade of thank-yous belongs Carol of No Sheeples Here. She provided the draft input for the banner .jpg, and we appreciate her enthusiasm and support.
So here we are with a dedicated WordPress blog. In moving our blogroll over, I’ve already had cause to peek under the hood on this thing. The experience recalled a few nefarious acts from my code-manqué days. However, the capacity to pull information directly out of the back end will eventually let us do a better job on the FMJRAs, with less effort. We might even exceed some of those 100+ link extravaganzas of the good old days, before Technorati was infiltrated by the foequit being so helpful.
Motives for blogging vary. Stacy is a ruthless capitalist in the tactical sense. I’m taking the more strategic tack: if I fail to blog and agitate for reforming the country, I’ll have plenty of time in the bread line to rue my sins of omission. I’m too blessed in too many ways, and have had too many clear indications that this is my task to punt this work, and play WoW instead.
It is this blog’s fervent hope that, looking back, 2009 shall have been the nadir for the country. As we look ahead to special Senate elections, CPAC, and the critical 2010 mid-term elections, help this blog be your East Coast/Washington DC advocate.
P.S. from RSM:
To our blogger friends: The Rules — including Rule 2 — are still in full force. We aim for 100% linkbacks every week to all blogs that link us, and you should e-mail Smitty with your posts. The new WordPress setup includes analytics that should assist us in this objective.
The archives will continue at the old site and we’re still working on getting all the gizmos on the sidebars the way we want them. We pledged a new WordPress site for Jan. 1, 2010 and we have delivered, thus avoiding the stigma of Carlsonism.
If the readers would please hit the tip jar — $5, $10, $20, whatever — our gratitude would be extreme.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
