Of What Might The Current Political Situation Seem Reminiscent?

Just a few links, ending in a question for general consumption:

  • Atrocious legislation like the healthcare takeover has now become a multi-stage affair.
  • The notion of amnesty for illegal aliens as a ballot-box stuffer remains a distinct threat.
  • The Judas Congress has taken to going after big business for honestly reporting the costs of ObamaCare in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley.

Having said all that, does anyone remember Yukos Oil?

Sure, you can’t go making a direct comparison.  The devilish details differ dramatically.  Yet, there seems a correlation between decay of the political system and overt thuggery from the government.  In summary, the Russian government either (a) needed loot and/or (b) feared a potential rival, and smashed Khodorovsky in a vulgar display of power.

If you’re not gripped yet by a  determination to restore the country by supporting Tea Party candidates through every legal means available, you must be in a coma or something.

    GOP fears backlash over health care repeal?

    With Obama as president the only way we repeal Obamacare prior to 2012 is by SCOTUS overturning it or impeachment. Impeachment is very unlikely. I doubt the Supreme Court will over turn this (but boy how happy I would be if that happened). It is impossible by 2012 to gain enough seats in the House and Senate to overcome a veto (that is assuming every race up for grabs goes GOP). Getting rid of Obamacare is a very uphill battle, it is going to take a long time, but it is not as much of a battle as say WWII was. It is doable, but it is going to take commitment to get it down.

    I think the tea partiers recognize that all we can do is challenge every available seat with a fiscal conservative alternative. We have to be in this for the long haul.

    Impeachment in the House is not out of the realm of possibility, given certain election results in November and ‘sufficient’ evidence.
    Conviction in a Senate trial is the part I would never expect to see.
