It’s Official: Lisa the Loser

Posted on | September 9, 2010 | 15 Comments

Anchorage Daily News:

Final vote is in The Alaska Division of Elections counted the last absentee ballots Wednesday. The final vote in the Aug. 24 Republican primary for U.S. Senate was 55,847 for Joe Miller and 53,834 for Lisa Murkowski.

Erika Bolstad and Sean Cockerman also report:

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky pledged $5,000 from his own political action committee to Miller, joining the support of the NRSC. . . .
Miller is also getting money from the more conservative wing of the party. South Carolina Republican Sen. Jim DeMint’s Senate Conservatives Fund on Tuesday devoted $12,983 to an online appeal to help raise money for Miller, according to disclosures. That comes on top of the Washington, D.C., anti-tax group Club for Growth promising to spend “whatever it takes” on Miller.

If you’re committed to doing “whatever it takes,” sometimes impossible things happen. They say it’s impossible for me to get to Blog Con, just like they say it’s impossible for Christine O’Donnell to beat Mike Castle.

To be fair, I don’t think the “Conventional Wisdom” is that O’Donnell can’t beat Castle. It’s that she can’t win the general election.

I’ve seen evidence that she can beat Castle, I’ve not seen evidence that she can win the general.

She is only a real loser if she pushes this beyond this defeat and jeopardizes Miller’s chances.

When I read the header, I thought you were talking about Lisa Graas.

The clincher on Murky’s reality check is that if she insists on running a write-in campaign, she will be booted from the leadership and reassigned to a worse office. Since the minority party starts out with the less desirable offices, McConnell will be able to threaten her with spending her last few months in the Senate in the broom closet next to the men’s room with the leaky toilet.

It’s some of the idiots on her “team” who realize she won’t keep paying them if she quits, and they see two more months of salary and expenses at least in her war chest.

I don’t remember ever seeing a picture of her before this campaign – I’m sure they were out there, I just never cared enough to look. She reminds me a lot of the Joker, except at least his make-up made him look like he was smiling.

Whoa! I did a major-league double-take when I first read the vote count. For some reason, I saw 55,834 for Lisa Murkowski instead of 53,834. “WHAT?? Miller only won by 13 votes?” Then I re-read it, and saw that the margin was actually 2,013 votes.

Clearly, more coffee is indicated this morning.

Sure are lots of impossible things happening this year. Fingers are crossed for a RINO loss in Delaware. No reason why Castle can’t join Murkowski, Watergate Boy from Utah, Specter, et al. and sit on the bench for November’s contests.
