Offshore Drilling: Another Reason Jim Moran Needs To Find New Work

Via Shelly’s List, the comPost quotes my Congresstool:

Rep. James P. Moran Jr. (D-Va.), who chairs the House Appropriations Committee’s interior and environment subcommittee, said that if Democrats retain control of the House in the midterm elections, he will press for a moratorium on drilling in the mid-Atlantic and off Alaska.

“The gulf is going to go back to drilling. That’s just the nature of the gulf,” Moran said. But he added, “I think we have at least a 50-50 chance of protecting the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.”

Other than explaining the adulation from ManBearPig, this quotation does little to explain how the country can prosper with myopia in place of a vision for energy independence.
With sufficient effort, the Democrat Party will lose the House, and with supreme effort, Moran can be sent packing.

The gulf ain’t going back to drilling with the rigs that Obama idled! The new regs require adding on so much redundant safety equipment that at least half of the rigs literally can’t fit it in. Those rigs and the jobs on them will float off to some other country’s shore. New rigs take years to build. Those jobs are flat gone.

Quite right, Mark – in fact many are already on the way to Brazil, where the government is offering incentives for offshore drilling rigs – thanks to $2 billion from Obama’s “stimulus” plan which he sent to Brazil. What foresight to plan for the Gulf BP spill and running off all our rigs, huh?

Moran is the poster child for everything wrong with Congress. It’s a long shot to boot him because the district has been taken over by a majority dependent upon federal employment or contracts for their income, but this may be the year and Patrick Murray may the guy.
