Poll: Sean Bielat 63%, Barney Frank 31%

Posted on | October 23, 2010 | 17 Comments

OK, it’s merely an unscientific online poll at the Web site of the New Bedford Standard-Times, but that won’t reduce the shock factor for Democratic Party operatives when they see the headline via their Google alerts. Sometimes you just want to mess with their minds, for the pure outrageous hell of it.

In more serious news, Fleming and Hayes have photos of Barney Frank’s latest full-color mailer, the sentiment of which they sum up: “Vote for Barney Frank, he picks the nation’s pocket and brings it back to Massachusetts.”

That might actually be a winning argument, if only it were true. But the fact is that rich “blue” states like Massachusetts are net losers in the D.C. pork game, paying more in taxes than they receive in federal benefits. In 2005, Massachusetts got 82 cents in federal spending for every dollar in federal taxes, but Barney’s only interested in what’s good for Barney:

GOP challenger Sean Bielat slammed U.S. Rep. Barney Frank yesterday for grabbing more than $40,000 in campaign cash from banks that received federal bailouts — despite the congressman’s own pledge to refuse that dough.
“The rules never apply to Barney — even Barney’s own rules,” said Bielat, whose surging campaign prompted Frank to pump $200,000 of his own cash into his run.
The Herald reported yesterday that Frank accepted $40,000 from bank executives and other special interests that cashed in on the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP).

Read the whole thing. Barney complains to ABC News that he’s the victim of a “flood of right-wing money“:

If Bielat can beat Barney, there are no safe seats for Democrats.

BYE-BYE, BARNEY!

I tend to regard the Frank/Bielat race with fascination, even though I don’t live in Massachusetts and my mortgage isn’t with Fannie.

We all know Democrats are enthusiastic election fraudsters. What maybe isn’t commonly realized is that systems have to be in place to commit election fraud. You don’t just register the whole cemetery overnight, and it takes time to come up with duplicate ballots and boxes for “stuffing”.

I don’t think anybody thought Frank could possibly lose as recently as three months ago, maybe a month. What that means is that the local Democrats’ ballot box stuffing apparatus wasn’t begun until quite recently, and is likely to be improvised ad hoc and a bit rickety. It follows that that election is quite likely to be cleaner than average, and we might get a look at what the voters’ preferences really are.

    Regards,
    Ric

I am sort of curious to what extremes the dems are willing to go to in saving Barney….or will he be one of those that they “decided” to let go just not worth the battle.

Barney Frank is just a small part of a much broader pathology.

Even if Bielat doesn’t win this time, he’s placed himself in a good spot for further office in out years by virtue of his excellent campaign this year. He has “mind share” with MA voters; by virtue of his even demeanor he’s not an “evil Rethuglican”.

I foresee great things for Sean no matter the result in two weeks.

Exactly right. The existing fraud apparatus – some of which has been in place for half a century or more – is strategically located where needed, with a few hubs in safely controlled areas just to supply enough to take a state (again, though, only in states where it historically could be close like Illinois, New Mexico, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin).

It takes a lot of preparation, and also practice, to effectively steal elections. Democrats haven’t needed this capability in Massachusetts in a long time.

House race polling is notoriously suspect, and while this is a safe blue district and has been for decades, would Frank have pulled money out of his own retirement to fund the campaign if he were really 12% ahead?

Even the cited poll only has him at 49%, a very precarious level for a 30-year incumbent 10 days from an election. How many of the undecided would break for him? It’s not like the district doesn’t know the guy.

Son of a B*tch, this is such a good blog! How’s a two-bit, illiterate, writer like myself go about writing a “guest article” for it? And, if any of our guys take their district out here, you’d better come back to celebrate.

The people in the 4th district who want to boot Barney need to get out the vote, and if that means going door to door, they’ve got to do it.

Ever see the Godfather when Michael Corleone visits Hyman Roth in Cuba? Remember the scene when the pro-Castro rebel blew himself up? What did that act tell Michael?

“It tells me they can win.”

Thankfully, nobody is blowing themselves up in MA-4, but there IS a huge “enthusiasm gap”. For example, at a recent debate in Barney’s home town, Bielat’s sign-holders outnumbered Frank’s Kool Aid drinkers 10-1. The debate itself was sparsely attended, but it would have been packed had the Bielat volunteers ventured inside. Instead they kept rallying on a very busy Commonwealth Avenue because they believed it would have more impact.

I’ve witnessed, and been part of, this sort of thing before–in January, when Scott Brown took Barney’s district on his way to shocking the pundits and the country as a whole. The dynamics are different. Barney is not as dumb as Martha Coakley. There is no special election and laser-focus on #41stVote. But there is Barney Frank–and nobody is more responsible for our current economic crisis than he.

Like him now or not, Scott Brown’s win opened the door for Bielat and other good GOP candidates in Massachusetts. “I’m a ‘D’, vote for me!” no longer applies. Now it’s up to Sean Bielat to capitalize, and I believe he will, if we all support him with donations and online exposure.

If the 4th District could help secure the #41stVote for Scott Brown, taking away the “Kennedy” seat, whoops – The People’s Seat – then I have full confidence they will get out there on Nov. 2 and take away the “Barney” seat – as well.

http://bit.ly/cCNH8r <==Newly posted article analyzes the methodology of the last "objective"/"scientific" poll (WPRI) which had Barney up by 12%. It seems the pollster skewed the sample toward Dems. This race is tight…and winnable for Sean Bielat! http://www.byebyebarney.org

Studies done at Yale and Princeton and others have shown that OptiScan machines can be pre-programmed in a matter of minutes. When your local clerk receives the machines and chips where are they kept? Who has access to your clerk’s office before and after the election. I bet it includes members of you local Democratic Town Committee.
the only check against manipulatioon of the machines is to physically inspect and count the ballots. But where do the ballots go after the election? Who has custody of them?
What about the ‘blank’ ballots that do not get used? In some case they have ‘disappeared’. But, accounting for the blanks is as important as the used ballots.
I was told of a case where an entire box of used ballots disappeared for over an hour.
Watch you r polls – make sure machines, chips, ballots are secure.
The stakes are too high for the Dembots – they will do anything to win.
