News of the passage of Geraldine Ferraro saddens all. Prof. Jacobson has the shorter tribute: “I liked her, even when I disagreed with her.”
Sarah Palin offers an extended salute:

On the Passing of Geraldine Ferraro
by Sarah Palin on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 9:29pm

My family and I would like to express our sincere condolences to the family of Geraldine Ferraro. When I had the honor of working alongside Geraldine on election night last year, we both discussed the role of women in politics and our excited expectation that someday that final glass ceiling would be shattered by the election of a woman president. She was an amazing woman who dedicated her life to public service as a teacher, prosecutor, Congresswoman, and Vice Presidential candidate. She broke one huge barrier and then went on to break many more. The world will miss her. May she rest in peace and may her example of hard work and dedication to America continue to inspire all women.

Heaven rest Geraldine Ferraro

Update II: via Doug Powers @Michelle Malkin:

In the name of the Savior you clowns at Westboro claim to serve, will you please give your nonsense a rest alongside the deceased!!!

The passing of anyone is sad. However, what Ferraro stood for was destructive and corrosive. I couldn’t care less about glass ceilings and given what we are likely to get when the Presidential glass ceiling is broken, just as it was racially, is not likely to be good, even if it Palin who breaks it, which I doubt it will be.

Well, as with the Prof. Jacobson quote included above, we can respect the respectable portion, and overlook the disagreements at moments like this.
The Left may talk about a new tone; we’ll go ahead and trot out the classic civil tone.
Unless, of course, Stacy wants to lower the boom, which is his prerogative, being The Talent around here.

I wonder which one of the Five Familes will be in charge of the arrangements. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess the Luchesis will handle the funeral arrangements, and maybe the Gambinos will sponsor the Wake.

Regarding the dreadful Phelps clan, I have a question: Who is paying for them to get to Los Angeles to picket Elizabeth Taylor’s funeral, then flying back east to picket Geraldine Ferraro’s memorial?

This isn’t cheap. Who is subsidizing these dreadful people?

I disagreed with her, but she was brave and gracious and had lovely manners. Remember that she called out Obama’s lack of experience, and was savaged for it; she responded in a measured tone to the epithets hurled at her.

We are going to miss her, over time.

I don’t know who is subsidizing them to picket Elizabeth Taylor’s funeral, but if they need some extra funds to picket Ferraro’s they need to give me a call. I love irony.

All the people they sue, that’s who’s subsidizing them. They make quite a living off suing people who get in the way of the hatred they spew.

By the way, will now follow Ms. Phelps on Twitter. The theological battles are going to be epic…

I was sorry to hear that. Cancer can be a really rough deal. May she rest in peace. I think I could wish as much for pretty much any Democrat leader or notable, even the current bunch. And the current bunch f0r the most part is not even in her league.

And is there any logic to Westboro’s protest schedule anymore beyond “Look at me! Look at me!”? These guys are a “I hate Illinois Nazis” moment just waiting to happen.
